Diction should not come between quality of voice and singing talent. Even Remo couldn't pronounce Hindi well at all, but still made his song a hit. And then there was BalaSubramaniam. Diction is not difficult to improve if when has great voice & talent. Watch out for depth of singing, ability to sing a variety of songs effortlessly, deep but soothing voice (incase of guys).
Everybody has favorites, lets find what is good in our favorites, and still be constructively critical about them. Hema is one my favorites too, and I realise sometimes (though it is very rarely) he lets the accent creep in. At the same time, the problem(if one can call it that) is so small that it is a matter of couple of diction classes & he'll be ready to start the road that great playback singers have taken.

vinit n hema r awesome singers. it is a shame if one needs to demean chandu with the help of "diciton problem"to convince tht vinit is better😉 this is an insult to vinit.

for playback singing. Have you guys heard Kumar Sanu speaking Hindi or
for that matter Manna Dey or Udit Narayan. Their accent is prevalent
when they sing hindi song live or extempore. I am not even mentioning
Punjabi folks like Sukhvinder, Hansraj Hans for hindi rendition.

Most of the regions in India do have diction issue. Maharastrians have 'za'
problem (even Asha Bhosle has it to certain extent). UPytes have eschool
or caallege problem. Punjus, Gujjus, Bongs and Southies all have
pronunciation hiccups. Some of these issues get uncovered during the
live/extempore performances; but they all sound great in playback
recording.

Yes, Chandu has diction problem and so also have some of other
participants. And DICTION is not going to make or break a singer. Then
India would not have seen Udit Narayan or Asha Bhosle or SPB.

My 2 cents.

While I should not even bother responding to this by now outrageous
topic, I agree with the above respons. MrsPetlover is also right. It is
mindblowing to me that people are carping on Hema's so called diction
while ignoring the diction problems of Paresh and sometimes Debo.
Nobody would carp on him if was North Indian.

More egregious is HR's comment saying that SPB fans would love Hema.
What does that mean. I love SPB but Hema's voice is completely different!
Also he said it after Hema sang Ay ajnabi which BTW is sung by Udit
Narayan (a Nepali). Hema really took is sportingly. In fact the appropriate
comparison for Hema is Udit Narayan as they both have meldious voices
well suited for heroes of all ages.

in Hema's position, I would have said something. I felt like emailing HR
to correct him!

Hello Guess/Neha,

Everyone in India has diction problem. As Hindi is a national language, everyone in their region speaks it with their own slang. It's common and it should be the way. Only then you will know different styles of singing. As far as Hema is concerned, his diction is very good and well suited for most of the heroes. His diction is much better than many others. Please don't be fault finding and try to find Diction as a fault when there is nothing else. It's the voice quality, sur and taal the most important factors for singing.
