Item number has been a part and parcel of Bollywood for a long time now. What is your favorite item number. What you like about your favorite item number😃.
Ek do teen chaar.. by Madhuri dixit.. This song introduced Madhuri's dancing skills to the world and she became a superstar after this movie..

My pick would have to be 'Mehboob Mere' from Fiza. There are many reasons behind this choice.

One is that Sushmita Sen is actually hot and beautiful unlike many item girls who just show skin and move lewdly.

This was also the song that pushed Sunidhi Chauhan, the current item queen, into the limelight as a singer of dance songs. Before this, item songs were reserved for singers like Poornima and Anuradha Sriram.

But most of all, I love it because of the music. This is one of the few item songs that can be enjoyed off the dancerfloor or without the video. It has enough quality in the audio to stand on its own. There is of course great singing and lovely lyrics. 'Mast mahaul mein jeena de' is such a beautiful non-ghissa pita phrase. And unlike the item songs of today, the song creates and develops a unique sound which is melodic yet thumping and very catchy. These days melody, if it is there at all, is only present in mediocre hooks of songs. And forget about making a 'new sound', most item songs are either imitations of Western tracks or Bhojpuri'ish nautanki.

Other good item songs are 'Yeh Mera Dil' from Don, 'Kajra Re' from Bunty Aur Babli and 'Maahi Ve' from Kaante. I can actually enjoy these as soundtracks and not just videos.
