Better than the Original Comments

Hi guys. Hope you haven't forgotten me. I took a step away from this forum.

Anyways what do you guys have to say when judges tell the contestant that they sung better than the original? Honestly I feel that's utter nonsense. I think that in most songs you can't take the credit away from the original singers. There's always an exception like Mauli's Maiya Maiya was clearly better than the original singer. But still how do you feel about these comments? I don't think a contestant should be compared to the original singer in the first place. Everyone has their own unique voice. Neither should credit be taken away from the singers that have originally sung the song. Its an insult to the original singer when the judges say "you sang better than the original." I mean even if they did sing better, why do the judges need to air that on screen? Its a huge insult to the bigger names of the industry. And these music directors should know better! Just my two cents.

Ignore all comments by judges, and accept only those comments which matche your opinion.

I think doing some thing first time has to be respected. You can always copy a painting but that does not mean you are better than the original artist. Even though singers get help from composers to compose a song but it is definitely different than singing the same song again.
Lata ji also said singing an original is very different from copying a song. That is why she wanted the contestants themselves singing original songs. That is the reason she do not like these Muscial competitions.
These MD's will do that act of "touching the ears" when they are remembering their ustaads or renowned musicians. They do not give a damn when it comes to not so popular singers and will make comments like the contestant sang better than the original singer(who is not that popular). These MD's who touch their ears are actually ego maniacs. They will make promises to singers on air to satisfy their egos and and generally won't keep that promise. Only cartoons and not real MD's can do such a thing😆

I definitely agree with your whatever u said rani & even what music_masala said. Original singer sings the song first in the studio, & these singer donot have any ready made material in hand I mean they are given a fresh composition which they have sing whereas these reality show singers get everything ready made stuff I mean they already have the original song to refer to, they only have to copy paste (some of the singers do add some variations which is quite good) But I think the original singers do much more tougher job. Its okay if the original singer of the song says this to a contestant, but these MD's have no right to take away their credit & insult the original singer.

Another thing I have seen is that these MD's simply keep praising these singers & give standing ovations & say things like "apne original se acha gaya, aap agar mujhe pehle milgaye hote toh main aapse hi record karwata", "Music ke itihaas main, aapka naam amar rahega", "Aapki aawaaz bilkul playback voice hai" & blah blah. I dont understand if these guys are so impressed why dont they give these singers chance to sing for them, after all reality shows these singers disappear or any 2 or 3 rarely manage few songs. I think all these comments are only for the sake of creating hype & increase trps & nothing else.

THERE IS NOTHING DISGUSTING.
IT IS YOUR OPINION
I LIKE THOSE COMMENTS

THAT BOLLYWOOD SINGER HAS TO SING AS DIRECTED BY COMPOSERS, DIRECTORS
BUT WHEN SOMETHING GOOD LOOKING IS ADDED BY
SINGER IN COMPETITION, THEN, AUTOMATICALLY IT SPEAKS
FOR EXAMPLE: ALI SHER COULD ADD MORE POWER IN THE SONG

ROHAN IN CHHOTE USTAAD ADDED SOME HARKATEIN, THEN, RFAK SAID THAT HE LIKED THE PART OF ROHAN WHICH HE HIMSELF DID NOT DO

I agree. At the same time, I believe judges would say anything to boost up votes and positive attention for their gharana. The thing that annoys me the most is when judges say it for the wrong performances 😆
For instance, Suganddha was nothing close to Alisha ji's Kajra re 😕 So Vishal's comment was really unnecessary.

If i can think of any, or at least a performance where that comment would be appropriate .. it would be for Maiya Maiya (Mauli) Her performance preserves the memory of the orig AND gives the song something more with her rendition. 😃

There are times when the cover done by a reality show contestant is better than the original but that is really rare. Furthermore, I think that it needs to be acknowledged that the singer is limited by the use of the song in the film, how it is picturised, the demands of the MD as well as the movie director and finally whom (the actor) the song is being sung for. On a reality show, the scale can be adjusted, the tempo can be adjusted, extra murkia can be added.... the possibilities are endless. I am particularly offended when someone who does not sing (like Salman Khan for example) says that the contestant should have sung it instead of the original singer. PLEASE -- if we know about the song at all, then it is because the original singer did a very good job on it and made it popular. Salman Khan has done this at least 3 times with Kavita K songs and it is silly to compare these up and coming singers to someone like Kavitaji. It is also not good for the contestants to be encouraged to indirectly disrespect elders -- is this the new parampara of India -- if so, I see a bleak future for Indian music.
