We really need NEW SONG THEMEs !!!

I don't know about all of you, but part of the reason I got bored in the "Shaadi" episode was because everything was so repetitious and predictable !!! From the choice of songs, to the dances, to the designer clothes… I've just seen and heard it once too often … the few exceptions were "Sab ki baraatein aayee", "Taare hain baraati"

Between Indian Idol 1, Fame Gurukul and Challenge 2005, how many times have we seen the same themes and same songs over and over again??? I mean, did you really want to hear "Bole choodiyan", "Mahi Ve" or "Mujhse shaadi karoge" again ???

Why do these show organizers keep on harping on the same themes… I've had it with…

R. D. Burman nite
Kishore / Asha songs
Shaadi songs
Patriotic songs
Disco songs

With all due respect to R.D B, Kishore Kumar and Ashaji, I love their music, but I really don't want to hear another version of "Nisha, Aa dekhe zara, Samne yeh kaun aaya, Yeh jawani hai diwani" … etc Its not like there's a shortage of fantastic music to pick from !!!

It was so refreshing on Challenge 2005 when they had S. D. Burman songs and Laxmikant-Pyarelal songs… and songs like "Kajra mohabbatwala"

If they're gonna have so many reality shows, they've got to pick some original, off-beat themes to keep us interested… like

Dream songs…
Chaand songs…
Rain songs…
Roothna, Manaana songs
Festival songs… Holi, Raakhee, etc

And of course, songs of other great music directors, singers, film directors, film stars … the possibilities are endless… O.P.Nayyar and Kalyanji Anandji's songs are very popular too…

I wish someone was listening…

i agree with you....... i for one would like them to have a classical based round...where they only sing beautiful classical songs........or something like folk songs.......

I dont know if Zee is listening..but I sure hear you girl! Exactly what I felt too. "Shaadi" songs was really the low point for the show. Other than some of the great composersand the themes you've mentioned, they should experiment with the shows format as well...have the singers sing in different pitches/keys (coz they will have to do that in playback), sing songs in languages other than their mother tongue, folk songs, maybe even an English/Pop round coz there are songs being written in english for movies..I dont know, ANYTHING more original than "Shaadi" songs!

This is what I had said on this forum several times before. Thanks for bringing it up again.

Hindi film music is so rich in every aspect but all we see in these shows are Asha round, Kishore round, RD round, rounds for each of the mentors and that too repeated again and again. Ofcourse Asha, Kishore and RD are my favorites but I like many others and I wish SRGMP show some respect for them too. That is why I was so happy when they had SD Burman round--it was so refreshing listening to his melodious compositions after quite a while.

I also wish that there is classical song round. It would be the ultimate test of the contestant's singing skills and pure joy for all of us.. Imagine Nihira singing kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya.. the songs that blends several ragas.. or naino mein badara chhaye..it would be an ultimate pleasure for me listening to these kinds songs from her. Or think of Sharib singing madhuban mein radhika nache re.. or laga chunari mein daag....... Gosh! I am so so sick of the often repeated ..kajarare kajarare tere kare kare naina or ashique banaya apane (no offence to SEL or HR's fans)

We have so many legendary singers/composers who took the hindi film music to the greater heights -- Rafi saab, MannaDa, Mukesh, Madan Mohan, OP Nayyar, Naushad... Why can't we have rounds on them? Has SRGMP's imagination gone so bankrupt that they cannot think beyond few singers or composers?

IM JUST BORED WITH SRGMP BECAUSE SHARIB IS OUT...it also seems that the contestant dont have any energy..besides twinkle....but like vinit and paresh it;s kinda weird...NIHIRA really needs to dance a little bit...because i have noticed that even though i know one of these contestants will become a playback singer i get bored of watching them when there is so dancing involved..like paresh he basiclly stinks..but when he dances on stage it makes me want to watch him!

Well, they used to have Classical/Folk/Ghazal Round in the regular Saregama Format... and that used to separate the wheat from the chaff!!! If they had a round like that, then someone like Rajeev would not have made the final 12!! However, right now they are going for "POPULARITY"... not quality...

Even so, they could come up with more creative themes, that still appeal to the masses and classes

Yeah, the "Shaadi" episode was the LOW point of this contest for me too... Though they picked up a lot the next day on the Shahid Kapoor/Amrita Rao episode.

I like your ideas for experimenting with formats... Right now, its getting monotonous... Even the regular shows with Duet rounds and the ones where 2 singers sang the same song back to back was more fun... and it was easier to figure out which singer was superior when they did that ...

Even if they want to have Asha/Kishore songs, why do they insist on singing the same songs ? Is it because the contestants are familiar with them ?? Because, before R.B. Burman, Asha had a lot of great songs with O.P.Nayyar… and it was S.B. Burman that used Kishore Kumar in his early years…

I agree completely… It would a real treat to hear Nihira and Sharib sing those songs… I would love to hear Nihira sing some of Lata/Madan Mohan compositions like "Lag ja gale"

And you get tired of good songs when they are repeated so often in each and every contest…

I'll be curious to see what Indian Idol 2 does… If their gonna contine with R.B.Burman nite 😉

I understand your point of view... I think Sharib was the most talented singer too. He put so much of life and feeling into his singing.

Well, the problem is that these contests are Audio/Visual... and people cannot totally dismiss the visual impact !!! Its easy to say that they shouldn't pay attention to performance, but its a factor when you're watching AND listening... In the old days when playback singing was completely behind the scenes, it was OK to just sing and not perform at all...

If you have been watching II 1, FG, SRGMP C-2005 and II 2, one gets sick of listening to the same songs being recycled. May be some one does not want to work little harder at finding other songs even though the theme may be the same. I feel Originality is missing with song selection. Some one needs to get creative and come up with different themes as mentioned above in diff posts. If members can come up with those so can they (Mentors, contestants etc).

Hey, it sounds like I'm listening to myself talk... I've been watching all those shows too... (except for FG, which I watched on Day 1, and then watched only in the last few weeks)... but its all the same stuff recycled...

I'm hoping they'll pick new songs and themes for II 2, otherwise its going sooooooooooo boring !!!!
