Mirror readers have reacted to the controversy on the popular television show Sa Re ga Ma Pa Challenge
In the January 18 issue, Mumbai Mirror carried the sad episode of the recent Sa Re Ga Ma Pa reality show, which we consider to be the best for new music talent. I have been seeing this programme since its inception and enjoy it to the core. Mr. Gajendra Singh has been hailed for it.
Though this channel we have seen advent of an array of playback singers like Kunal Ganjawalla, Shreya Ghosal, apart from Sonu Nigam and Shaan, who have contributed immensely through their hosting and singing talents.
The programme's all India talent hunt started with so much publicity and created unprecedented response for young aspirants. The process of elimination of participants through judgement by well-known musicians was going well like it has over the years.
But the sudden change in format that introduced public voting spelt trouble. In a country like ours where voting itself is a misused mechanism, I fail to understand how such a system was introduced by Mr Singh. Even if he did it initially to increase public enthusiasm and hence TRP for the show, he should have stopped it when ten were in the fray. These participants should have been tested through a set of reputed musicians for their selection and elimination till the winner was found. Mento-meter could have been retained to allow some personal rating of the mentors as a gimmick, but the final word should be of the judges present then.
It should also have been a weighted figure such that the maximum weighted vote from a state would not exceed 15 per cent irrespective of whether a candidate draws 80 to 100 per cent from a single state. This would eliminate any external manipulation or undue and unhealthy competition among participants. The unpleasant episodes in full public view I have witnessed on January 19, and earlier, could have been avoided. It should be an honest talent hunt, not a betting on someone who plays second fiddle.
I hope all concerned will get over their petty squabbles and encourage the right talent.

It is really very disheartening that Sa Re Ga Ma Pa music mentors are behaving like kids and not like mature people. Adesh Srivastava, especially, does not behave like a gentlemen. He has to criticise other gharanas without considering that in his gharana Hemchandra, who is not fit be a singer, has good hold in the South. In fact, his mother has gone to different states and pleaded for votes, which is why he has survived in the show. His father once passed the remark, when he was given a yellow light, that the meter should be checked. Is this the way mentors behave? They are making baseless allegations on the public, which is losing a lot of money to vote for these contestants. Then why this allegation on Debojit who has got 80 per cent of the vote for Assam. The public should learn a lesson and not vote.

Disaster!!! That's all I can say. I have been watching the show quite regularly. The last two few episodes have really been cheap. Are these guys playing with the viewers' sensibilities and emotions? If this is only a publicity stunt, I must say it is harmful publicity. For viewers, like me, who are ardent fans of music and who always rated this show and its singers above other shows this is nothing but a shameful act. What are these mentors and their disciples up to? Are they making a joke of the show or themselves? They need to apologise to the public for this kind of behaviour. Or it is better to wind up the show.

All of these gentleman judges are culprits for employing tactics that go beyond fairness and professionalism. In the latest episode, both ID and HR were at fault. Why did ID do the drama of walking out when public votes and not judges that decide winners. Nihira got better marks from judges yet was voted out by public!! And HR should not have been a mentor at all. He is a completely unprofessional and incompetent musician. He is bad for show
