n talking abt Bhupendra, reminds me of another singer from North-east , his name is Bhupen Hajarika : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD2Wq4qPdfw&feature=related... i had heard this song few years back for the first time when I was travelling in North eastern India and later found out that its a a very famous song..😊 n the singer is very famous too in that region.

regarding the bolded part, ofcourse it was a teaser, nothin' more - 😡 . guess you understand just the straight talk. 1 and 1 need not be "two" , it can be "eleven" too 😛. ahh well henceforth, i'll try to shoot it straight. all i was saying is update your first post and get the entries of other singers too as suggested by members. so that if anyone's left out can be addressed too...simple. grrrrrr. and oh if you really have an open mind ability to accept other people's views on rafi, then i can come up with some thoughts.
let the ball roll.. what say?

other ppl's views on rafi are all groundless. These are what i've heard:
1.His voice was thin (cant they tell the difference between soft and thin? sonu nigam was right when he said that rafi's voice was soft but he had punch and energy.)
2.He wasn't versatile (yeah they're right.. he was limited only to high pitch, low pitch,ghazal,qawwali,bhajan,gaan,sad,happy,romantic,comedy,mad.. yup he wasnt versatile )
3.He cant yodel (did anyone listen to the song dil ke aaine mein)
4.He was besura(i didn't know they had software to help someone sing in tune in those days.)
5.Toshi sang ye reshmi zulfein better than him.

And i'm not one to say that :
1.he was the voice of amitabh bachchan
2.He could sing laga chunari mein daag and kahin door and kora kaagaz tha better than the original singers..

i just get p'ed off when idiots make the 5 statements which i listen above..

will come later with my points. gimme some time to compile them.
oh abt the concluding line , are you a frequent visitor to those kishore and rafi forums?😛😆. well then, must say, kishore fans treat others much better then what rafi fans do ?😆 . does it ring the bell ? 😉

@OBJ, atleast other singers fans acknowledge rafi unlike most rafi-ians... i mean considering him no less than a God ? looks like some kind of whining to me.

debjyoti of orkut: Rafi was nowhere nearly as versatile as kishore da. rafi was limited and sang few songs.

does that answer your question?

usually we rafi fans just talk abt rafi.. then some genius from another community comes and says that rafi cant sing many songs.. i dont understand their logic. he was the most versatile of all time! 😲

ok my turn.
first, is rafi better then lata ?
- your take on this one is , YES! and all this while i was trying to dodge this question simply coz , imo, a female singer cant be compared to a male. first i will focus on them as a singers and later will see and compare them as rivals.
> the reason - its unfair to compare two different gender singers as both have different body structure. even while singing the muscular activities that take place in both are different.
(includes brain, lungs, throat. you can google the articles and read for further details. i did go thru them., was an interesting read)
few differences are obvious and proven are-
> pitch: females have high pitch than males
>> dynamic range (diff between the highest highs and the lowest lows that a person uses while speaking) men use a very narow dynamic range while women use wider dynamic range, which is what gives their voices more of a "sing/song" effect.
>resonance - the quality imparted to voiced speech sounds by the action of the resonating chambers of the throat and mouth and nasal cavities.
(above is the excerpt from the articles that i read)
its also said that female voice folds are different from male and more complex.
that should bring us to a concrete conclusion as to why we see less pf female voice adaptibility. why a female fails to do variations as compare to male. or precisely lack of versatility?
like say,
if lata is good in melody , bhajans, she fails in other genres.
if shuba mugdhal excels in sufi, folkish style, she lacks in melody.
asha sounds great at ghazals or sensuous songs but she isnt good at bhajans.
so perhaps this should answer your nagging question about lata.
also i think this might be the reason we dont see female mimicry artists.. or we didnt see any one singer who can adapt to rekha, or madhuri or sridevi at the same time as we saw kishore kumar to great extent or even rafi to some extent.
hence lets not compare rafi to lata or hell! abhijeet to alka as singers.
