I just heard the 'lekar hum...' song by Hemachandra (thanks to memsaab for uploading the file).

His rendition was simply superb. This guy may not be a prodigy but is definitely talented.

All those who said - he has an accent... his singing is shallow... there is no soul in his singing... he is yet to touch my heart..... the feeling is missing in his singing... etc., etc., please listen to this song once again and eat your words...

It is very common for people to comment the moment you say you are from south that he has an accent. For your information, he is from Hyderabad and (as a Hyderabadi myself) I can vouch for the fact that our pronounciation is much closer to the original pronounciation and much much better than all those bihari and other accents...

Hemachandra with his bass voice is going to rock the music world. Amen!

" can vouch for the fact that our pronounciation is much closer to the original pronounciation and much much better than all those bihari and other accents"

hehe..

Frankly speaking, I haven't seen this episode yet. I have only heard him twice, singing.."pehla pehla pyar hai" and "Aane waala pal". Aane waala pal was decent enough but I really found "pehla pehla pyar" very shallow. Firstly, the song doesn't have much in it. Its a very simple song and he did it effortlessly. I really haven't seen him performing to his potential. I agree, he has this voice quality which is unbeatable. But i would love to see him using that to his fullest. I will look forward to his "Lekar Hum" this week. Must be a great performance.

I totally agree with u taikoo. All these people go by his expression and think he is not singing with feel. If you close ur eyes and listen to him he is excellent and does full justice to the song. And he has such a manly voice. Because he is such a good singer and has so much control on sur and his voice, he doesn't have to show on his face any struggle for singing. Some of the other singer behave like their face is singing more than their voice. I am also from hyderabad and I speak much better hindi than most marathi, gujrathi and bihari accents and as good as Delhi people. So, you cannot generalize such things. I always thought SPB has the best playback voice ever in the indian music industry. But because of his accent, he couldn't be successful in Hindi music. Hema is the perfect solution.. I would like to put my money on him.. unless the final round is based on public voting.. Then I can't say. Since our mass junta will land up voting for face value more than talent.

Mano123, you said it wonderfully. Since each of your points is loaded, let me separate them and add further zing to it.

All these people go by his expression and think he is not singing with feel. If you close ur eyes and listen to him he is excellent and does full justice to the song.

In the same episode as the above, I saw Sharib singing...fine he sang well...he added his (probably) own nuance into it...but...what was he doing...he was showing (off?) on his face that he is making effort (struggle?) to sing the song...

Because he is such a good singer and has so much control on sur and his voice, he doesn't have to show on his face any struggle for singing. Some of the other singer behave like their face is singing more than their voice.

In the beginning of the song, the percussionists, tried to increase (unnecessarily) the tempo of the song. It so amazing to see Hemachandra brought the tempo back to normal. That is something only a trained musician can control. If you don't believe, listen to him once again...

I am also from hyderabad and I speak much better hindi than most marathi, gujrathi and bihari accents and as good as Delhi people. So, you cannot generalize such things.

Well, my intention to start this thread was not to have a full-fledged war on accents on us Indians. But to highlight the fact that - donot, repeat, donot generalise or presume the moment you hear a south Indian name that he/she has an accent while singing.

In the initial rounds I was pained to see Aadesh and Jatin Lalit commenting about 'jo southse aathe hain...' and Hemachandra's and Himabindu's accent etc. etc. What the heck??? Guys, grow up. Look beyond your wells. There is much 'tharakki' happening outside your domain/world...

I always thought SPB has the best playback voice ever in the indian music industry. But because of his accent, he couldn't be successful in Hindi music.

SPB is one of the greatest singers and is close to a living legend. SPB, who I think is from Tirupathi, indeed gave us wonderful hindi hits. Here again I don't want to generalise that his accent is bad. He has sung tens of thousands of telugu, tamil, kannada and malayalam songs and he has a genre of his own. So while singing Hindi songs, he sang in the same genre. Many of those, ofcourse, were hit too.

Hema is the perfect solution.. I would like to put my money on him..

My favourites for the final would be Hemachandra and Debojit...
