Saregapama can be considered as an entertainment program, not as a music competition. Judging whether a singer is good or bad requires expertise and knowledge and leaving this entirely for the public to decide makes no sense. Public can be swayed by many factors other than music. Not many who send their votes may understand music. Looks of the contestant, their appeal and charisma and regional biase will play a major role in public votes. It is really sad that the once meaningful Saregamapa has been so commercialised that the 'showbaazi' has taken centerstage. Mediocre contestants who are able to sensationalise the public are more likely to win over really talented, but low profiled singers.
Despite her 'Hindi' and mimicry, I can simply not believe Asma pulling more votes than Mitika or Vaishali, if singing only is the criteria for judgement. Are the SMS votes verified by any third party auditors? Perhaps Asma's wealthy father and his connections with Zee are instrumental in his daughter's progress in the competition. Sadly, she continues to survive despite there being atleat half a dozen more deserving contestants who have already been eliminated.
THE MOST POPULAR contestant will win Saregamapa, but he/she may not necessarily be the best singer.
I strongly feel that Saregamapa must return to its old formula where contestants were tested thoroughly and judged by knowledgeable experts.
