Regarding plagiarism in Music industry one more impotant fact is that many times it is the films director who force the music composer to copy the music or make music of similar tune. Anu malik copied "makarena" song not because he wanted to but because of the force of director. Same way pritam also said that many times it is the film's director who forces them to make music of similar tune which turns into plagiarism.

Plagiarism is basically dishonest copying without giving acknowledgement to original source.

Plagiarism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Plagiarism refers to the use of another's information, language, or writing, when done without proper acknowledgment of the original source. Essential to an act of plagiarism is an element of dishonesty in attempting to pass off the plagiarised work as original. Plagiarism is not necessarily the same as copyright infringement, which occurs when one violates copyright law. Like most terms from the area of intellectual property, plagiarism is a concept of the modern age and not really applicable to medieval or ancient works. An example of plagiarism would be copying this definition and pasting straight into a report.

T Series seizes 1.35 lakh pirated CDs
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, September 17, 2008]

In a major raid conducted by Jharkhand Police on complaint of Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T Series), at a House in Ranibagh, Ramgarh over 1, 35,000 (one lakh thirty five thousand) pirated CDs which included the latest Albums of T Series including Karzzzz, Om Shanti Om, Partner, God Tussi Great Ho etc were seized along with Copier Machines worth more than Rs.50 Lakh.

The CDs illegally copied here were being supplied to various parts of Jharkand, Bihar, Orissa and Bengal. The T Series authorities, on receiving a tip-off, visited various shops of the area pretending to be customers, and were keeping a vigilant eye for the CD pirates. Finally, T Series senior officers YP Singh, Lakshman Prasad and Vinod Kumar along with cop Mahendra Singh Munda conducted the raid.

The Police have registered a case in this connection under the Copyrights Act, 1957 against the accused persons named Sukhdev Mahto; Kranti Mahto; Pranti Mahto and Prem Kumar. The seized material is with the custody of the area police station.

Says T Series Creative Director Divya Khosla Kumar, who has also brought out an anti-piracy album to curb piracy, "we at T Series, have always taken a very strong stand against piracy and these raids serve as deterrents to others who make a business of piracy who cause great revenue loss to the country. But this will be controlled when each of us are vigilant and tip off against these miscreants, thus doing our duty as Indian citizens. Only then can we curb this menace."
