Does success of KK prove training in classical is redundant?

Listen to Khuda jane mai (Bachna ae Hasino) and voice of KK comes as breath of fresh air (now after khubsoorat mukhda if this song falls flat in antara it is not his fault). There are more singers now like Sunidhi who started her career before she completed classical training, KK and few more who despite being deficient in IC training are doing very well, does it mean the same training is redundant now because any way the trend is not to deliver many songs with classical base in terms of complexity involved. In SRGM also we are increasingly finding singers with little classical training

Also it is being discussed by mentors whether having a good voice is more important or the right sur taal. Now we have softwares which can take care of pitching problem and improve tonal quality.
What is your say..?

I think so long as they start off with some classical training, they get a pretty good grip of things. A singer who has proper classical training has a greater advantage in a musical career. It helps a lot when they want to compose their own music.

Most of the hindi film songs don't need any knowledge of classical music. The most important thing to succeed in Bollywood is the voice. A good, unique voice will always be noticed. Lucky Ali, Atif Aslam aren't great singers by any means but they've made a mark due to their unique voice.

Now a days we have softwares like melodyne, ennuendo, protool which can correct pitch and even improve your tonal quality so may be voice quality can take precedence over training.

Having said this IMHO Sunidhi and KK are not typical case examples and they are exceptionally gifted, most of us are not blessed like them and for us training is the only remedy.

If we look at the successful singers today those with training like Shreya, Sonu rule but this is also true that now all sort of songs are composed with opportunity for every one.

I think KK and Sunidhi are born gifted as far as their singing is concerned. Just imagine how good they will get if they have IC training under their belt as well. If I am not mistaken, Sonu Nigam wasn't trained in classical music either. He started his training some years ago after entering the industry as a play-back singer.
Every serious artist wants to evolve with time and grow some more in their chosen profession. People like Sonu, Shaan and Sunidhi are doing their best in constantly improving the gift god blessed them with. I feel KK should consider IC training as well.

There is no downside to learning Classical music. It only strengthens your strengths. KK and Sunidhi are truly gifted with such beautiful voices. But at the same time - they have knowledge of the basics such as pitch, note and beat. There are very few lucky ones who are born with such inborn talent and I hear Kishore Kumar was also one of them.

SP Balasubramaniam is also not classically trained but I guess they pick up the nuances during the course of time.....its like on the job training...they become experts but with prior knowledge the lerarning curve is shortened and is quicker. They are so many trained singers who havent made it so big either.

This is surprising that ARR was not classicaly traine d when he gave music for Roja he completed this training in 96 (Carnatic Classical) and many have said his best classical output came after this.
SPB, Kishore da are few more gifted singers but ALL of them completed training when they started recording. Sunidhi also has done IC training now, Sonu had completed 2 yrs of training when he came to host the show.
Only exception is Kishore K, he said in an interview that training has made no diff in his output.

But what about Lucky Ali, Atif how are all of them successful..??

Sorry for other post: O P Nayyar is the only composer whose name leaps to my mind who had no training. But he was major in army band.
