This has me totally confused. Here is an mp3 of the original. I hear quite a different pattern of notes. Or is that just me?

what pattern do you hear? Just curious. I was trying to illustrate the jumping notes. Maybe you can illustrate it more accurately

Being a huge fan of the original, I simply could not enjoy Sara's rendition of "Kehna hi kya". However, it is a hard song to sing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what more she can offer :)

Thanks for the Link to the original of "Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar" very well sung by Shamshad Begum.

Well Sara did make a good attempt . Hope she succeeds the Begum in future with some practise.

AFAICT, the jumps (upward) are on 'aar', 'paar' and 'thir'. Could you write out your hearing of the tune for this line (and maybe the next) in sargam (solfege) notation, please? Thanks!

I agree eith you. Though I like Sara's voice, I couldn't appreciate her ' Kehna hi kya'. I feel some brilliant compositions should be left as it is & not be experimented with - This song is one of them.

Sara does have a sweet voice. Noted there were mistakes made, perhaps not enough time to prepare for new songs. The original is very well sung and it may not be fair to compare against the original so early. Unlike Engish songs, Hindi songs are very demanding I notice and need a lot of patience and practise. So the question is if Sara had been given enough time would she be able to sing the song perfectly. I think she can step it up a lot.
Chitra KS is unbelievable in this song and not many top singers may be able to match her either.
