It has to appeal to me in a certain way and if it doesn't, then I tend to avert books for weeks.

Sameee😆 Not that I don't like reading. I used to read all these books, and the I hit 13 and became too lazy to read them 😆

Short stories are fine but I don't like to read one whole book anymore unless it is really gripping or I just really like it. I am more of a classics type of person tho

I'm actually forced to read books considering I'm doing an English major. So that also helps to kill the vibe to read for pleasure only. 😆

Short stories are good! I'm taking a class on it this year, and I never realized how much more concise but powerful they can still be. I'm actually leaning more towards reading short stories than 1000 page long novellas. 😆

I'm also taking a Victorian era class and we are reading quite a few books that I guess could be considered the classics. And the style of writing, the sophistication, the subtlety that came along with them, is just unparalleled. You simply do not get books like that anymore.

Haha yes true! I have always been forced to read certain books, but honestly, I never felt lazy to read them until maybe 7th grade.

One of the units in our class was short stories, and I really enjoyed reading them! I really like idea of the power and message contained in a 5 pages rather than 500. It just makes it much more meaningful for me.

And yes, in English, we are starting a Victorian Era unit starting with Great Expectations! Already read some Jane Austen classics, and in love with those! Last year, it was all about Shakespeare,a nd that was really interesting as well! And so true! You just don't get books with that level of sophistication and subtlety anymore!

Is it weird that I enjoy reading science textbooks more than actual books? 😆😆
I guess I am not an "English" type of person. No but I do still read books, just not like I used to...mabe 1 every 3 months?

That's funny because middle school was the prime of my reading days. 😆

Yes! There is this one short story that I read in high school called, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and it is absolutely brilliant! If you get a chance, do check it out. :D The perverse societal norm that has been constructed due to a faded tradition is just chilling.

Omg, me too! We started our class with The Great Expectations as well and it's the only book that I actually finished reading for the class. 😆 For all others, I've read only half. 🤔

Last year, I took a Shakespeare class as well and it just reignited my love for Macbeth, and Hamlet but Othello has also joined that list. I find these three plays to be one of the absolute best that Shakespeare has ever written. Especially Macbeth and Hamlet. The parallels between these two are simply stunning.

LOLL, it's not weird. Science textbooks are non-fictional and the material we learn in there can actually be applied in the real world. If I could, I would love to pick up a biology textbook and just read it inside out. But chemistry and physics are a whole different scenario. 😆

Omg yes hahaha I read it! The Lottery was one of my most favorite short stories among the ones I read!! A very chilling, yet interesting tale. It says a lot about how the human mind thinks: our extreme desire to fit in and follow the norm even though it may defy all logic. I also loved the irony in how it was set in a small village on a sunny day! Not at all what you would think of as the setting! Some of my other favorites include The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, and Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier.

Macbeth is absolutely wonderful! Hamlet is also pretty goo and I haven't read Othello yet! y favorite, however, was A Midsummer Night's Dream. Maybe because it was just all fun and idk it reminds me of Indian soaps😆

Me, always. 🤣
I'm more of a classics person myself rather than romance and the only romance I read are the fanfictions and the ones on Wattpad, otherwise I'm more the mystery/mythology/classics/anything except romance 🤣

Harry Potter was the first series I ever read. 🤣
I'm much more into mystery, fantasy, sci-fi and thrillers. Haven't really ventured into classics yet. 😛
