Daljit Kaur and as she appears in Kulvaddhu | The new show Kulvaddhu is being touted as Sony's latest big-ticket soap. However, the current on-air promos only show the feet of the protagonist stepping out of the car. We've now discovered the identity of the mystery actress. Her name is Daljit Kaur. It may not sound familiar, but Daljit is no newcomer to television. She has done several episodes of CID and Aahat. In fact, she was noticed after being seen on these two shows. Army girl "Kulvaddhu is my first soap. It is the first time I am dressing up and have an on-screen family. In CID, I was either killing people or getting murdered!" laughs Daljit, who is just back from a Rajasthan schedule of Kulvaddhu. "My stars that day must have been good. I don't even know who recommended my name after seeing me in CID. I got a call for a look test and after two takes I was on for the show." With an armed forces background, Daljit is the only member of her family to have taken a shot at showbiz. "My father retired from the army two years ago and has settled in Pune. We are three girls in the family and I am the youngest. In fact, both my sisters, Amrit and Jeetendra, are also in the army. They are both captains. Amrit is based in Mumbai while Jeetendra is in Bangalore. My family still can't believe that I am acting!"
Like all army children, Daljit has studied all over the country. "I have friends everywhere. I did my BCom from D Y Patil College, Pune. On a lark, I took part in beauty pageants." Beauty with brains Daljit was a runner-up at the Miss Navy 2005, Miss Maharashtra 2005 and a finalist at Miss Mumbai 2005. "Then someone told me that there were auditions going on at Fireworks Productions (the makers of CID). The next I knew, I was acting on the show," says Daljit, who will be performing on stage at the Indian Telly Awards tonight. Kulvaddhu is slated to air on Sony from December 19 at 8.30 pm. The daily is produced by actor-turned-producer Anuj Saxena's Maverick Productions. Says Saxena, "We wanted someone with a traditional look. We called Daljit for an audition and she fitted the bill." The cast of Kulvaddhu includes Kitu Gidwani, Milind Gunaji, Rajesh Kumar and Sushmita Mukherjee, among others. |
