Besides movie premieres, book-reading evenings and art shows, a number of significant events have marked the swish set's diaries this month.
Socialite Queenie Dhody, who is back from a twomonth vacation, says that this 'lull' is a breather of sorts. "The party scene is so hectic throughout the year, so I like to take a break from
partying and just chill for some time." Kickstarting the party season was Jaswant Singh's literary evening. To say that it was well-attended would be an understatement, what with Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan gracing the occasion, besides a host of corporate bigwigs. Last week saw Salman Khan's younger sister Arpita celebrate her 18th birthday, and the bash saw the entire Bollywood 'Khan'daan attend. Speaking of birthdays, TV actor Anuj Saxena also added another candle to his cake last week, and tellydom certainly made its presence felt! Fashion too, reigned high this month with a few fashion designers showcasing their best. There there was Vikrant Chowgule and Aditya Kilachand's exclusive bash that saw quite an attendance. Says party perennial Kishen Mulchandani, "It was dull during those few months, with everybody being away and the rains further dampening spirits. And who wants to celebrate when the city is being bombed. But now, we party people have arrived in true style! Jab sher jagta hai, tab poora jungle uth jaata hain! It's time to rock and roll again!" he says. Socialities like Sonia Garware too have made a comeback on the party circuit. "Now that I'm going to be in Mumbai for a while, I will be attending some parties, those of my close friends," she says.
Meanwhile, there's a host of parties lined up for this new season. The clock is ticking, the race has begun. So, who will host the biggest party this season? .dastur@timesgroup.com
