All that I can say about Narottam for now is that he is human ... with human thoughts and emotions. He seems to genuinely love Vatsalya, but that degree of envy is natural, when he sees a younger brother get all the love and respect that he himself is denied, for no fault of his own. He wanted to be Vatsalya, but never could be ... he remained himself only ... unwanted, unloved by everyone except Vatsalya. Why did his own mother (I'm presuming that's Sangeeta Ghosh) send him to stay with his father, when it was obvious he was unwelcome there? Or did she send him at all? Did his father call for him to be there? Lots of mysteries surrounding this character ... he is not pure white, but how grey he is, remains to be seen.
That can be said for all the characters ...no one is pure white ... and their shades will unfold slowly. I Hope the story telling remains as neat as it has started ... I'm always afraid of the dreaded trp pressures wrecking a show!

The character of Narottam is too intriguing. It seems to have many layers. But it would take a few more episodes for us to deduce. For now, the major focus is on Anami. As soon as she enters Lal Mahal, I think the story would start exploring her interactions with the other characters of the show and we'll get to know more of their traits.
