Do you guys know Emmamuel Macron?

He is the president of France and when he was selected as presidential candidate from all personal and professional issues one thing was trending among all the people of the world, he married a woman called Brigitte Macron in 2007 and who is 24 year older than him. The couple meet each other when he was in primary school,15 year old and she was teacher of that school, 39 year old. He started dating her when he was 18 years old and his parents separated the couple because they thought their son made that relationship inappropriate and sent him to Paris. After graduation again they started dating and married at 2007(Source Wikipedia)

You guys might understood why I am elaborating this story. I think this is a global problem. So people in India also has problem if Ratan Maan Singh marries his 30 year old best friend. And the main problem is we can not change the thinking of society over night where a presidential candidate has to answer why he married a woman who is 24 year older than him.

both are slightly different issues. to a large degree the hue and cry over Macron's relationship was because it was teacher student relationship ...esp when you talk about school kids. at that age, it is sort of sacred and here was a teacher getting involved with her student. the reverse would have caused concerns too...and does cause concern in western world if it was a guy school teacher and a girl student. the inappropriateness that they were worried about was that teachers are seen as being able to influence tender children's mind and mold them. there are enough cases of molestation where the kids didn't realise it. parents get naturally cautious and worried.

You are right. that both issues are different and mrs. Macron is divorcee also which actually made it weirder.
Sorry if I offended you because I didn't wanted to say that, what I wanted to say is whenever this issue arises about a older girl marry a younger boy society says this thing can not happen because they can not be happily married. Here in this "marrying an older person issue" Macron ans Ratan is standing in the same position with different scenario. Hope you undersood what I wanted to say.

I just want to say that if you are in love, age doesn't matter, and as for now ratan sa is yet to fall in love with diya, and then we will see who dares to separate them ;)
Here in the example, I just want to inculcate the emotional factor i.e. how determined they were about each other, even destiny can be re-written if you are passionate and positive about something.
Society tab bhi thi, ab bhi hai, chaaye desi ho ya videshi :D

you didn't dear. all of us are sharing our views. please don't hold back on sharing yours.

i understand the general point about the hue and cry that people do create about may nov marriages. happens everywhere. sad view of the society sometimes. things are changing now...but only in pockets. society will need time to stop generalising these relations and looking at each one case by case. a elder man-younger woman relationship was every chance of not ending up with a happily married as an elder woman-younger man relationship. it depends very much on the two people involved and they personalities at the end of the day.

Ignoring the creepy example you used in which I feel more than Emmanuel, it's Brigitte who has to answer for being an ephebophile.

But you're right that had it been a different situation for example a 40 yr old woman being w/ a 21 yr old. Even in the western world, the guy would have had to answer to society and the woman would have been taunted and mocked.

The problem is we live in a deeply misogynistic world, some countries are marginally better than others but at the end of the day, double standards do exist for men and women.

I mean no-one bats their eyes when a 60yr old man is interested in a 25yr old woman (except again to call the girl in question a gold-digger or other awful names).

This whole situation has many layers and the bottom layer is sexism/misogynism, first that has to change and it will take a long time, just look at how long it's taking for women to get recognised and to get the right to vote/have a job etc, it started back in early 19th century.

You're right, this is a global problem, as in a 70 plus man can easily marry a girl in her teens or 20s. There maybe talks; but yet it is a recognised norm. On the other hand a couple where the girl/lady is older than the guy become automatically answerable to the society. I think the society has related this issue with the looks and procreation age of a girl/lady. And because it is believed girls are mentally more mature than boys at a young age even. Sadly so, I hope slowly but surely this thinking changes. Thing is when two people are in love, age difference won't matter; and if that boy truly loved the girl/lady. He will make her feel the most beautiful woman in the world. He will see through her heart and their equation, their friendship. Sometimes, marrying a person who makes you happy, who understands you, who is your best friend is everything and not age.
P.S.: Just saying, Suyash Rai & Kishwer Merchant; who played Abhay and his sister; husband and wife in real life; are also examples of this age difference thing. Kishwer Merchant is 8yrs older to Suyash.
