Holding on to Rihaee: Rajeshwari Sachdev

Sony to set Rihaee free?

A rather dismal TRP evokes response from channel

Sapana Patil

Media is abuzz with rumours that Sony's crime drama Rihaee will go off air soon. It is believed that the show failed to give high TRPs as other shows on the channel did. People from BAG films (producers of the show) maintain, "It is true that the show appeals to fewer people, who comprise the thinking audience. But the show is very dear to the channel. In fact the channel is proud of this show." Said another insider, "This is absolutely false." One of them even shared that the average TRP of the show since its launch in February mid-week has been one. SET Executive Vice-President and Business Head Tarun Katial offered, "Honestly, no decision has been made yet." BAG Managing Director, Anurradha Prasad was not available for comment as she is out of the country. Sony's crime drama Rihaee is a bi-weekly airing on Wednesday and Thursday. The show is driven by Rajeshwari Sachdeva, who plays a social worker. Divya Dutta was also a part of the show initially. Kamya Punjabi who played the role of a journalist in the serial, quit the show because she was doing two dailies with Zee, Astitva and Reth. Recently, the show underwent a change by introducing two new characters played by Kishwar (last seen as doctor on Sony's Dhadkan) and Manoj Bidwai. Looks like the show didn't work out despite introduction of new characters. Other shows under BAG banner on air are Khabrein Bollywood Ki, Rozana, Red Alert, Kumkum, Khullja Sim-Sim, Pol Khol, Haqeeqat, Siddhanth, Sansani, Pyar Ki Kashti Mein and Dekho Magar Pyaar Se on the various channels.

I think sony should not take this off air. May be market little more. They should do some good shows just for the sake of education. They should not weigh each show on how much they earn....

I read Sony is reviving the show by adding 24 hr helplines and Rihhaee is getting help by National Commission for Women who will provide trained professionals counseling women in distress. It looks good.

I don't want it to go off air.

This is one serial that makes people think... most people do not want to see 'real' issues. They want to see all the dramebaazi that goes on in the other serials that do not provide one iota of thought provoking topics.

I would be really disappointed if this show goes off air. Sometimes you do not make shows for money you make them because you want to create awareness. Not that I am able to help the victim, but this serial gives me the information to look for signs in people around us and help them if needed.

I guess this is the only serial where the lead and the co-lead are not paired in a romantic manner and there are no affairs between the team members... I like this healthy relationships for once and do not have to deal with the same masala of the serials.

Sony can sure spare the money to run this show and use it as its good deed. But afterall they are running a business and this does not make sense to them, would it?
