-THE PAST-
Kabir was standing near the window in his cabin . He was impatient and filled with enthusiasm.
He said out - Well Shreya , today during my bulletin you will know what and how a breaking news should be!!
The glass door to his cabin opened and she said - Kabir...
Immediately Kabir turned around and walked towards Ananya with a huge smile on his face. He said - Ananya... Finally you reached... What took you so long ?
Ananya entered and before she could respond Kabir took hold of her hand and guided her towards the chairs and made her sit in it.
And he sat in the chair nearby turning towards her and smiled waiting for Ananya's Answer.
Ananya stared at him for a moment and asked with her tongue in her cheek - Did I come into the wrong cabin? .. Are you sure, this is the Hot headed EIC's cabin?
Kabir raised his eyebrow and said - Well according to everyone , the moment you entered my life , I forgot to be the hot headed Editor in chief...
Ananyas eyes softened. She blushed crimson.
Kabir smiled even more looking at her expression.
Ananya cleared her throat and said slowly - There was so much traffic ... So I got delayed .. Sorry for keeping you waiting Kabir..
Kabir replied quickly - That's okay Ananya!! I reached hardly 15mins back...Anyway , Listen... Like I said over the phone, I solved the mystery behind the murder in Javas college of Science...
Ananya asked trying to hide the " How the hell did you do that?" Expression- Really? So soon? But how Kabir?
Kabir smirked and said - Miss Kashyap, I am sitting in this cabin for a reason isn't it ?
Ananya grinned and she said - Ya.. How can I possibly forget who am I talking to ??
Kabir smiled and said - Okay.. Now listen up Ananya, you will be shocked when you hear what really happened.. Like I told you in the morning The HOD of Anatomy department Dr.Rana Nalvadi was found murdered today in the morning by a maid named Nalani...the body was found in front of the same cabin where Dr.Subankhar had committed suicide and the murder took place at the same time when Subankhar had taken his own life ... The HOD died due to a deep slit in his throat and they couldn't find any fingerprints on him...
Ananya nodded her head. She knew this already but she couldn't let Kabir know that she knew it. She couldn't let him know that she was dealing with the same case. What if he reacted badly?
Kabir continued quickly - Kurana allowed me to look at the footage that was taken during this time period... And like I told earlier, No one killed the doctor.. At sharp 8 Pm Dr.Rana came running out of his cabin and as he reached near Professor Subankhars cabin he was hit by a very strong force , that slit his throat and he fell to his death... And after that in the morning the maid spotted him...
"That's all? Only this was available in the footage ? But then how does it explain anything? How did Kabir solve the case?"- Ananya thought.
Kabir continued - but the most interesting part was what they found upon inspecting Dr.Ranas body ... On his chest there were markings or to say cuts that were made by a surgical knife that said - " One done... Another to go" ... And according to the forensics the cuts were done only after the slit in the throat...
Ananyas eyes widened she said out - What ?? But how could that be done??
Kabir replied with a smirk - Well Ananya...Can I ask you something?
Ananya nodded.
Kabir asked- According to you, what proves that no one made the markings on Dr.Rana's chest?
Ananya gave a confused look and replied - Kabir you just told me a while ago... The camera footage !! It shows that no one comes near the body.. Isn't it ? So it obviously points to supernatural doings..
Kabir smiled and said - And you believe that? Well Ananya... A little bit of computer knowledge is enough for you to tamper the camera footage...
Ananya looked at Kabir and said slowly - So your trying to say that who ever killed Dr.Rana Nalvadi came and made the cuttings on his body and later on tampered the footage in such a way that all this never happened?
Kabir nodded his head smiling.
Ananya crossed her arms and asked - Okay.. Like you said .. Lets assume the so called murderer tampered the footage to mislead us... But how can you explain the death of Dr.Nalvadi? You yourself saw the footage isn't it Kabir? His throat slit open by itself isn't it?
Kabir gave a sloppy smile and said - Well I never denied that Ananya...
Ananya asked raising her eyebrows - But Kabir... Don't tell me your going to say that was some sort of Animation !!! Like seriously!!
Kabir laughed and replied - Well I never said that too Ananya...
Ananya gave an annoyed expression and said - Kabir its not funny.. So how did you decode that? Eh?
Kabir said looking at Ananya - The same question was going on in my head too.. So I decided to have a look at the crime scene again and when I went there I noticed that there were blood stains on the floor where his head was marked. So it implied that he landed head first ...
Ananya completed - So that shows he was hit by a very strong force.. Because usually we land on our back...
Kabir nodded and said - Yes... Exactly... So something hit Dr.Rana unexpectedly isn't it ?
Ananya replied with a confused expression - Ya Kabir.. But what does that prove ?
Kabir took a deep breath and replied - It proves a lot Ananya... And especially when I noticed something... Something quite revealing and something the murderer forgot to pay attention too...
Ananya asked coming a bit forward - And what is that Kabir ?
Kabir said with a sparkle in his eyes - As I turned to go.. I noticed a small dent on the wall...
Ananya asked suprised - A dent ?
Kabir nodded his head and continued - Ya Ananya a dent that is left behind after you remove a screw or a nail...
Ananyas eyes widened and she asked - And was there...
Kabir completed her - Yes.. There was the same dent on the parallel wall as well... So that explains the way Dr.Rana's throat slit open...
Ananya was suprised. She said with her eyes widened - So the murderer tied a sharp thread connecting the two nails in such a way that when Dr.Rana comes running his throat will slit open upon hitting it... And the whole while the camera wont catch it because the thread is too thin... Man that is too brilliant...
Kabir smiled and he said - Yes!! Way too brilliant... The murderer had calculated everything... He had tied the rope in such a way that it strikes Dr.Ranas neck.. The doctor was only 5.2 feet tall and the dent was found approximately 1 feet lower than that so it hits his jugular artery, causing immediate death!!!
Ananya was listening intently. She asked - So Kabir... Like everyone thought it wasn't an act of supernatural powers.. But it was done by a living human being... So who is the murderer Kabir ?
Kabir sat back and said - Ya so who is the murderer... We have that question to answer don't we ? But before we answer that, we must know what motive does the murderer have ? Isn't it Ananya?
Ananya nodded her head and said - Ya...
Kabir said clasping his hands together-Dr. Rana had come to the college at such a late hour because he was trying to destroy some evidence,... Evidence that showed how Dr.Rana and the principal of Javas Mr.Goenka had framed Professor Subankhar for Embezzlement in order to hide their involvement in providing fake degree certificates to students...
Ananya said slowly -And Professor Subankhar found this and he had confronted them about it...
Kabir frowned and said - Yes.. And they had to silence the professor so they framed him...
Ananya continued lowering her gaze - And ultimately The professor committed suicide.. Due to embarrassment and the pain he was inflicted too...
Kabir looked at her . He knew it was a sensitive topic to deal with , giving how Mr.Sudhir Kashyap died. He said slowly - Hmm... So who would want Dr.Rana dead ?
Ananya looked at Kabir and replied - Mr.Goenka ...
Kabir asked with astonishment - And what makes you think that Ananya?
Ananya looked at Kabir for a moment and asked - Are we having a game show right now ?? Why are you asking me such questions!!
Kabir have a huge smile and said - Well, I am just checking if your As intelligent as your fiancee...
Ananya gave a sarcastic smile and replied - Mr.Sharma... For your kind information, I have no need to justify my intelligence, because I.. Me... Myself.. Miss.Ananya Kashyap was the one who decoded The Shroff murder case .. While my Intelligent Editor in chief was busy flirting with the murderer herself!!
Kabir raised an eyebrow and said - Tomorrow the first thing I got to do is get myself enrolled in that course!!
Ananya giggled and said - that's a wise decision Mr.Sharma... And anyways why cant Mr.Goenka be the murderer ? From the spooky events that took place Dr.Nalvadi would have lost his cool and decided to give in the whole matter to the police, fearing this Mr.Goenka kills him in order to keep the matter under wraps!!
Kabir looked at Ananya and said - Hmm... Your right..
Ananya gave a big smile and said - See I told you !!! So Mr.Goenka is the murderer after all !!
Kabir came a bit closer and said looking into Ananyas eyes slowly - No Ananya... Mr.Joshi Goenka isn't the murderer... Professor Subankhar is...
~ ~ ~Manav cleared his throat for the 3rd time. But she did not respond. He felt annoyed.
Manav got up and tapped on her shoulder by bending a bit.
At once her eyes opened and she gave an astonished look and immediately took out her ear phones and exclaimed - You? What do you want Manav?
Manav gave his signature smirk and replied sitting in the chair - Well, Shreya Mam... I felt like having a talk with you...
Shreya narrowed her eyes and said - Do I look like a person for petty talks ? Get a life Manav !! I am not your darling Malvika !!
Manav sat back comfortably and asked completely ignoring the remark Shreya just passed - What were you listening to? Songs?
Shreya gave an annoyed look and said - What do people usually listen to Manav ?
Manav gave a sloppy smile and said - But Shreya Mam your not like the rest are you?
Shreya came forward and said - Yes Manav I am not like the rest ... So If you have the slightest concern about your job , then please leave my cabin Now !!
Manav looked at Shreya and smiled.
Shreya sat back again and said out - Out Manav !!
Manav got up and said - Sure "Mam" !!
And went out of the cabin.
Shreya gave a disgusted look.She sat back in the chair as she put on her ear phones and she closed her eyes shut.
~ ~ ~Ananya asked - Kabir Have you lost your mind? Professor Subankhar is dead ? By saying that Subankhar is the murderer your coming back to square one...
Kabir smiled and said - No Ananya.. I did not say that!!
Ananya gave a blank expression and said -" Mr.Joshi Goenka isn't the murderer... Professor Subankhar is..."- What does that statement imply kabir ?
Kabir said - It implies that Professor Subankhar is the murderer!!
Ananya got up at once and said - God !! Kabir your annoying me right now !!! I am not in the mood of fooling around !!
Kabir held Ananyas hand and said smiling - Ananya.. Don't get angry... Sit down!
Ananya looked down at Kabir and then sat down and took a deep breath.
Kabir smiled and said - Well , Ananya I said Professor Subankhar is the murderer... Not the dead Professor Subankhar.
Ananya gave a confused look and asked - What ? What does that mean ? There is another Professor Subankhar?
Kabir laughed and said - No Ananya... It means that Professor Subankhar is alive !! He never died !!
Ananyas eyes widened and she said out - What???
Kabir nodded his head and said - Yes Ananya... You heard me right!!
Ananya shuck her head in disbelief and said - But Kabir what proof do you have ?
Kabir smiled and said -Well Ananya ... What proof do you have to prove that Subankhar is dead ?
Ananya gave a questioning look.
Kabir smiled and continued - This was the same question that came in my head... How do we know Subankhar died? Firstly when I asked Kurana he said that his body was found burnt in his cabin.
Ananya blinked at Kabir blankly.
Kabir said - You might think - isn't that enough? ... Well Ananya, what proves that it was Shubankars body they found?... Because the body they found was completely burnt.
Ananya remarked - But Kabir.. Did you forget? There is a department called Forensics...
Kabir smiled and said - Yes Ananya. I am well aware if it.. But do you know that determining the DNA fingerprint from a burnt body is very difficult , and should I even mention the Indian system of forensics?
Ananyas eyes widened. She asked - So your telling me they never conducted a DNA test ?
Kabir nodded and said - Unfortunately yes Ananya. They never conducted the test !!
Ananya exclaimed - So its not necessary that it was Subankhar who was burnt...
Kabir agreed - Yes Ananya. And being a Anatomy professor he knows where to find a body isn't it?
Ananya nodded her head slowly. Then she asked - But Kabir... The cam... ( She stopped in between and continued) ... Well he would have tampered that as well isn't it ?
Kabir smiled and replied - Yes Ananya. The footage of that particular day was lost. Subankhar had tampered it as well...
Ananya gave a completely suprised look and said - God Kabir !! Now everything makes so much sense... The Professor took his revenge in such a dramatic way!! No one would have guessed it !!
Kabir smiled and said - Yes your right Ananya, the Professor had everything planned. He came in that day as if he was going to take his belongings. But instead he hid himself until everyone was gone ... And then he brought in a dead body and burnt it making everyone assume that it was him all the while.
Ananya nodded her head she said - Yes... And that's what everyone thought as well, and he was quite aware of the security's smoking strolls and hence bringing the dead body wasn't a big problem... Once everyone believed his death, Subankhar started to execute his haunting stunts ...
Kabir nodded his head and said - Yes... That is the reason why they got notes written in his own handwriting.. Which spooked everyone !! Then finally when the time was right he lured Dr.Rana into the campus , and like you said Dr.Rana was in the wake of exposing everything to the world out of guilt .. That's the reason why he came to the campus at such a late hour when no one was around . But Subankhar wanted more , he wanted to avenge the embarrassment he went through.. So when Dr.Rana Had every evidence out in the open, Subankhar made an entry startling Dr.Rana...
Ananya completed Kabir - Obviously Dr.Rana thought that it was a ghost and he Ran for his life... but unfortunately when he ran his throat was slit open because of the thread that the Professor had planted in prior... Leading to his death... And then the rest is history !!
Kabir smiled - Yes Ananya!!! No one would have known this if not for the dent that Professor Subankhar had left behind...
Ananya nodded in denial and said -No Kabir... No one would have known this if not for 'you' !! Your truly so brilliant!!!
Kabir laughed and said - Tell me something I don't know Ananya!!
Ananya gave a smirk. Then she asked - But then Kabir .. Where is Subankhar now ?
Kabir smiled and said - In his house Ananya.
Ananya laughed out and remarked - Ofcourse... After his death and the supernatural events that took place .. No one would have dared to go near his house isn't it ? That made his house the safest place to live !!
Kabir smiled - Yes but only until an hour ago... Now he is in police custody. And guess what ? He has accepted everything as well!! And the best part is that this whole incident is still under wraps...
Ananya flashed a smile and said - Man Kabir !!! You nailed it this time !!! I don't know how can I possibly appreciate you!!
Kabir smiled and said pointing at her - Well the smile in your face is worth a million appreciation Ananya... And especially when I know I am the reason behind it !!
Ananya blushed at once and she got up and said - People should learn how to speak from you Kabir !!
Kabir laughed and asked - So now its not necessary for me to go to that course is it ?
Ananya giggled and said - Lets see ..
Just then her mobile rang.
Ananya looked at her phone and said - Kabir I have to take this call... Will talk to you later.. Bye...
Kabir made a disappointed face.
Ananya gave a pleading expression and said - Please Kabir.. I am sorry... We will talk later... Bye... Love you!!
And she went out of the cabin as she answered the phone.
Kabir smiled and said out - I love you too Ananya...
He got up and made his way to his chair. But as he sat down , suddenly he remembered what Ananya told him.
"he was quite aware of the security's smoking strolls and hence bringing the dead body wasn't a big problem..."
He said out - But... How did you know about the security guard's Smoking strolls Ananya? I remember never mentioning that to you...
~ ~ ~Ananya sat in her chair in the cubicle. She took a deep breath and said out to herself - See Ananya.. Nothing bad is going to happen !! I know everything will work out smoothly!! After all your only trying to save a life !!! God will be there with you..
Her heart felt all uneasy. Ananya took another deep breath and she said with determination - You already made the decision.. So don't stress...
She took her phone and selected the number and clicked the dial button.
The call got connected and Ananya said - Hello Regina ... I have a breaking news for you...
~ ~ ~ ~ Picture Abhi Baki Hei Meri dost ~Authors' Note - So there ends the 4th Update. And so does the case and its mystery!! I hope it was convincing and it was worth the hype !!
