Kabir was ecstatic. He was getting engaged to his soulmate Ananya.
To add to his happiness, his dada,bhabi (Shalini) and niece were also attending the engagement. His bhabhi who had never forgiven him for parting ways with her best friend Shreya wasn't speaking to him. but at least she was there.
And his adorable niece, Neha. He had last scene her when she was 7 years old. Now she was a shy and pretty 15-year old. Neha still doted on him and was so thrilled to meet her full-of -life Chachi Ananya.
He looked around to see Arman laughing with Ronnie. Anita was smiling ear-to-ear and Ananya was positively glowing with excitemement.
Life was perfect.
But could life ever be perfect for Kabir?
He suddenly noticed Shreya walk inside the room.
He was shocked. His shock turned to anger. He walked towards Shreya but before he could say anything his bhabhi stopped him.
B: Don't create a scene. She is my guest.
Kabir: Your guest? Bhabhi, today is my engagement. How can you call her hear?
B: She's the reason that I am here. She convinced me to attend this engagement. After everything you did to her.
Shreya: I knew it wasn't a good idea. I should go. Kabir I only wanted to convey my best wishes to you.
B: If you are leaving, I am leaving too. Neha, Rajveer... Come quickly we are going.
Rajveer: Stop creating a scene. Everyone's looking at us.
Anita and Ananya also came there.
Anita: What happened beta?
B: We are leaving, aunty.
Rajveer: No we are not. You can go if you want.
Shalini had never expected Rajveer to say no to her. She turned to Neha.
Neha: Sorry ma, I have to be a part of Chachu's engagement.
Shalini was furious by now. She turned to Kabir and said spitefully.
B: This is what you always do. Break families.
Ananya who had been quiet all this time couldn't take it any more.
Ananya: bhabhi enough. i won't hear another word against Kabir.
Ronnie interrupted them.
Ronnie: I'd suggest that all of you go inside and talk. People are getting the wrong idea.
Shreya started moving away. But shalini stopped her and insisted that she come inside. Once inside she continued her diatribe.
Shalini: Ananya you are a lovely girl. Trust me you deserve than this man, Kabir Sharma. You have no idea how he destroyed his last marriage.
Kabir's face turned white. Ananya squeezed his hand.
Shalini: First, his alcoholic ways, then his affair with that characterless intern of his.. Tarini?
KABIR: Don't drag Tarini in the middle of this.
Shalini: See. He still can't hear a word against her. Ananya, Anita aunty, don't get involved with this man.
Anita: Kabir has already told us about his struggle with alcoholism.
Ananya: And Tarini is family.
Shalini: WOW.I see he has all his bases covered. But did he tell you about the other thing?
Shreya: Shalini, please.
Shalini: No shreya, they deserve to know.
Shreya: Actually there was an episode of domestic violence. But I have forgiven him. It was during his alcoholic days.
Anita had ben carefully observing Kabir's face and she was shocked to see guilt on it.
Anita: Kabir, what is Shreya saying?
Ananya: Ma... How can you be asking Kabir such a question. He could never...
Anita: I am talking to Kabir. Kabir tell me.
Kabir: Ma.. I.. I really regret it.. but I did slap her once. If you knew the circumstances...
Anita: Enough Kabir. No circumstance justifies a husband hitting his wife.
Kabir: Ma,, please...
Anita walked away. He turned to Ananya. But Ananya removed her hands and walked away behind her mother.
