Prologue
Present Day
Sitting in his tiny cell, Kabir Sharma smiles as he stares out into the dark sky through a small window. The prison warden, Sailesh Mehra walks up to his cell for their routine coffee. Over the years he had formed a fatherly bond with this particular prisoner.
Hearing the warden's foot steps nearing his cell, he turns to greet him. It was a nightly ritual that had some how been established over the ten long years.
Sailesh frowns slightly as he hands Kabir his cup of coffee, stating softly, "I don't think I have ever seen you this happy, content." Kabir grins, nodding, he says, "true. You haven't."
Saddened, Sailesh asks, "why are you looking forward to death?"
Smiling, Kabir asks, "have you ever been in love?" Sailesh nods. Kabir continues, "how would it feel knowing that every breathe you take, is a constant reminder that you can never be together."
Placing his hand on his heart, Kabir adds, "every heart beat is a reminder of how her forehead rested on your chest as she gasped for her last breath."
Raising his arms, he looks at them, adding, "every time you hold something, you are reminded that you were unable to hold her, help her as she bled to death."
Closing his eyes, he imagines their last moment... Both on their knees, hands tied behind, inches apart, facing each other.
