I would like to start this debate by posting a quote
That one quote which each one of us have been learning from our childhood
A quote, that is said to be morally correct.

That is,
"Honesty is the best Policy"

Honesty is the best policy:-

If honest is really the best policy then why people tend to embrace dishonesty?? Why did our civilization discard the ideals of "Satyug" and prides itself on being dishonest??

A general question:- In a competitive exam if by cheating a single question you can get admission in one of those prominent government colleges then would you rather not cheat and compromise with a seat in private medical college only cause honesty is the best policy?? The answer is a big fat NO!!

"Honesty is the best policy" is a far-fetched outdated notion that suits when printed in textbooks rather than practical implication. It is akin to thought experiment in Physics- theoretically possible but experimentally not feasible. Cocooned in the warmth of heavy insulating blankets and room heaters during chilly winters it is easy to say that one will be honest and poor rather than dishonest and rich. Spend a day in a slum, sleep with an empty stomach with a ragged torn cloth doing no good to protect your body from the harsh calamities of Mother Nature and then say those same words... will you be able to?? So when you say choose honesty and poverty over dishonesty and prosperity you yourself are being dishonest.

" Honesty is the best policy " , a simple phrase we all read all through our life and hear people preach, but when I sit down and reflect upon the phrase ,does it sound practical ? do we really follow it to the core ? The answer to that my friends is NO!! Why you ask? For the simple reason that today's world is all about Power and Position. Man is ready to slaughter another just to gain power, status , recognition , its like a continuous chain, and everyone instinctively seems to be following Charles Darwin's theory " survival of the fittest" so the question here my friends is? Does honesty let us stay in this bloodlust, selfish world? No !!

All this still in support of Honesty a quick question, have you never ever encountered a situation where just to save time and unnecessary chaos you'd have to pay the other party off? Specially the corrupt traffic police? Have you never ever cheated in an exam? Not even once? Have you never lied about any xyz reason to your family/friends? Still in denial? Moving on , lets talk about poverty shall we? According to United Nations :

" It is the inability of getting choices and opportunities , a violation of human dignity . It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society .

with these points in mind I stand here to debate on the topic Poor and HONEST vs Rich and Dishonest and I speak against the topic ie support Rich and Dishonest as may be relevant from the facts stated above and the ones I might use below!!

Honesty, in this context, is the matter of right and wrong. This is a fact that, everybody lies. Honesty does not mean a person has never lied. People have a compulsive disorder, an irrevocable tendency to re-adjust words, consciously or unconsciously. However, it is intention that decides the moral nature of the lie.
And honesty always need not mean poverty too!

There are countless examples in history demonstrating this, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Warren Buffet and many common journalists, writers, businessmen, workers and leaders and these were not just rare people, but everyday people from everyday places.

Let's consider some benefits of an honest life!

  • Closer friendships. Honesty and integrity pave the way for greater intimacy. Your friends love the "true you," not the one you've artificially created.
  • Higher quality friends. Honesty attracts honesty. People who are trustworthy and honest attract trustworthy and honest friends. And those are the best friends to have.
  • Trust. Honest people are trusted by others.
  • Confidence. Honest people trust themselves. Never underestimate the life-changing power of the ability to trust yourself. If you trust yourself, there's no power which can stop you from earning the money you need.
  • Wellness - Honesty has been linked to less colds, less fatigue, less depression, and less anxiety. This means better health. And as we say, "Health is wealth". A person may be poor, he may have to work very hard to earn his living, but even the richest man would envy him for his good health, for which honesty contributes as one of the factors.
  • Less stress - Dishonesty needs to be maintained. Pretending to be something you are not requires constant attention to detail, even for the most experienced. Honest people are better able to relax because they are just being themselves and naturally, feel better about themselves and less overwhelmed.

We only need to cheat when we have less knowledge about any subject
And Less knowledge results bad
Have you ever read cases of medical negligence..?
Doctor has less knowledge about the topic and he results in damaging the individual instead of curing him/her.
I will love to get less mark than to be the reason of someone's death...

As Con said "This is a fact that, everybody lies. "
Ever wondered why everybody lies when the HONESTY you so proudly glorify is the best policy?? You yourself are agreeing that people lie... One definition of honesty is cities being truthful. So how is it that everybody lies yet they are honest??

Con also says: There are countless examples in history demonstrating this, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Warren Buffet and many common journalists, writers, businessmen, workers and leaders and these were not just rare people, but everyday people from everyday places."

How do you know that these people have never used any unfair means for their existence?? Only 'cause you don't find long articles on them being dishonest you assume that those people were always honest ones?? Well, if this is the matter then if I erase every wrong-doings of UPA government, get bribe and give them a clear character certificate then does this mean that the particular government party has never performed any malpractice?? They haven't cheated the general population of their hard earned money??

You have mentioned, today's world is about Power and Position! But have you ever wondered who has made it so? Its us! It's us who have made it this way! As I have mentioned above, there are many benefits to living an honest life, and yes, if each one of us contributes to this, the world will be a better place to live. As far as survival of the fittest is concerned, what kind of survival is it without your family, friends or close ones beside you? Yes, that's what it will be- "surviving", without your close ones beside you. But with them, it'll be called "living". In the true sense.
For the questions you have asked here, I have already mentioned, Honesty doesn't mean you've never lied! As far as practicality is concerned, it is difficult, to never lie. But as earlier mentioned, again, its the intention that matters. Cheating in an exam? Giving of to a corrupt traffic police? Have you ever thought of the consequences if this is caught? They will be severe! I'd rather prefer a stress free life, than being dishonest in these cases too!

Ok If you are going to give clean chit to UPA Government..
Can you predict that they are going to win next elections..
All the matters are cleared ..They should win na..
But you can't predict this.
Because Indian citizens are the most important part of Indian government
And they are evident of their dishonesty.
Dishonesty is the major reason of downfall of UPA government...
Because none of us want to be rule by someone who love to fill his safes rather than providing the things to citizens which is their right...

Con says "Higher quality friends. Honesty attracts honesty. People who are trustworthy and honest attract trustworthy and honest friends. And those are the best friends to have."
How do you know if the friend beside you is honest?? How do you know that your-honest-friend isn't coning you or won't deceive you??

Let's admit the simplest of facts here. The multitude of people out there doesn't welcome the Cold Honest Truth instead they prefer to be flattered and cajoled and to be kept in the polite comfort zone. In today's era anything is better than the critical hard truth especially the one that makes you look bad. Think about it. Society doesn't reward us for being honest... it chastises us instead. Tell a fat woman that she is fat and she'll term you as rude. Call a man on his incompetence and this will rile him up! This is where honesty gets you- people are afraid to be with you lest you reveal one of their weaknesses, similar to the child who called the Emperor on his nakedness in the story The Emperor's New Clothes. Be honest and you are accused to be cruel and tactless. So why be honest?? Because honesty is the best policy?? Nope! The downside is more than the upside by a mile and this is why so many people are wary of being honest.

Con says "Trust. Honest people are trusted by others."

Despite knowing that a majority of our politicians, more than 99.99% of the total fraction are corrupt yet in a span of every five years we elect ministers from the same dishonest lot and trust them with our county, with our lives... why does the notion of trusting honest people goes down the drain then?? Moreover why do need others to trust you when you have millions sitting in banks?? Furthermore, who recognizes your honesty when you are poor?? Will you trust a beggar with your money, give him access to your bank account only cause according to you he person is honest??

Con says "Wellness - Honesty has been linked to less colds, less fatigue, less depression, and less anxiety. This means better health. And as we say, "Health is wealth". A person may be poor, he may have to work very hard to earn his living, but even the richest man would envy him for his good health, for which honesty contributes as one of the factors."

Well in that case I have a scientifically proven statistical fact for you:-

"Poverty is a carcinogen"

Those were the exact words of Dr. Samuel Broder when he was the director of the National Cancer Institute. As amply documented in the annual "Cancer Facts and Figures 2011" released by the American Cancer Society, cancer shows that poverty remains the most potent carcinogen- rivaling tobacco- as we have ever seen. This is where the real worth of money is understood. Money can buy health. There are several expensive drugs that are vital to cure certain diseases that the poorer sections of the society aren't able to afford.

Con says "Less stress "

Again a contradictory fact. When you have millions sitting in your bank you have no worries. You can live a worry free life just be living off the interest for the rest of the life. How can you be stressed about a hundred dollar energy bill when you loads stuffed in your pockets??
