Chapter 1: The belongings...

She always felt them. She felt a rush go down her spine, as the goose bumps on her skin started to formulate, constricting each and every vessel in her body. It was a cold, beautiful, illuminating night. She knew that today at 9pm Kabir sir would finally return to read the news. Just the thought of him made her reach out for her new red sweater. She didn't like it one bit, but the thought of a returning Kabir Sharma gave her pangs of shivering sensations that she couldn't handle. Ronnie had gifted her the sweater a couple days ago. She had not much to comment about his taste in style, it wasn't the best. A gift is a gift, and held much sentimental value for Ananya. He was one of her best friends, she didn't really know how to say no. It served its purpose today, an extra she decided to leave in the office for cold days ahead. It was 8:30. She decided to work on the lead she had collected information on that morning. She was worried about this one. If everything about this lead was correct, it would be her first international story. But after losing an interview to Richa, she felt a little broken, a little disheartened. Not because she didn't think she was capable, but because Kabir sir had insisted that Richa work on that story now. If her so-called hero and inspiration didn't motivate her and keep faith in her, then it seemed to her that all her efforts as a budding journalist went in vein. A lost in her thoughts Ananya was walking out the door to leave for home. Just as she was about to open the door, a late rushing Kabir Sharma came in as a storming sensation, and "WHACKK." Ananya Kashyap was on the floor rubbing her forehead with dismayed expressions.

A: "OUCH." She yelled. "Dekh ke nahi chal sakte."

Kabir didn't have time to pacify her right now, but his heart wanted to do only that. He knew he had to maintain his crudity for the time being, until he was ready to deal with all of this without anger, passion, and lack of control. He needed to bring back composure to his temperament.

K: "Sorry miss Kashyap, aap dikhi nahi."

He didn't see me? She thought to herself. Of course he didn't see me, he has very little space in his life for me she thought.

K: Vaise miss Kashyap aap in chashme aur sweater mein Bahut ZYADA mature lag rahi hai. Just letting you know, attire badalne se log aapko zyaada seriously nahi lenge. Aapke kaam se lege, so go home get sleep. Come back tomorrow to do work, Goodnight.

Was he trying to say I'm old? Ananya looked at herself in the mirror that night. She was only twenty-five, but in the past week she seemed to have aged by five years. There were severe bags under her eyes, her skin was paler than ever, and she seemed to have forehead wrinkles? How is that possible? She realized that she needed a break. She needed rejuvenation. Kabir sir was right, if attire didn't make people take others seriously in the world of journalism, then why not change it up? She needed to give herself a break from work, and get her beauty sleep. She decided to call off the next day.

He kept looking at her empty desk. He was there super early today; he wanted to make up for the missed time in Singapore. Not just for the work, but lost time with Ananya. Of course in his head he made up excuses about why he was really there. Nobody besides Malvika was at the office.

Malvika: "Kabir, tum yaha itni subah subah? Koi nayi romanchak story hai kya?"

K: "Kuch aisa hi sochlo" he smirked.

She continued to blabber her weekend plans to him, and he continued to ignore her getting lost in his thoughts. He tried hard to ignore how he last saw Ananya in Ronnie's arms, but that image was haunting him day and night. Was he Jealous? Was THE KABIR SHARMA jealous? Or was he just disappointed that Ananya Kashyap called him a friend but hasn't given him the spot of her best friend yet? Why did I drink again? What is wrong with me? I do not lose control like that. I have only one goal, and that is to etch my name in the history of Journalism.

Malvika: "Kabir, kya soch rahe ho?"

K: " Ananya Kashyap ke bare main." He instantly realized his slip of tongue.

Malvika: " KYA???"

Kabir tried to cover up his concerns for a special Miss Kashyap,

K: Soch raha hun main use ek warning de du.

Malvika: Actually main bhi yahi soch rahi thi, kuch din se uska kaam pe dhyaan nahi.

K: matlab?

Malvika: She seems to have lost that "SPARK" that you think she has...mujhe to pehle se lagta tha ki ye ladki paagal hai.

K: Paagal to hai. He said with his subtle smirking looks.

Maalvika insisted on bringing Kabir Coffee, and he decided to take a stroll outside. He walked over to Ananya's desk. He never got the chance to look at her space from up close. He saw a picture of her mother, father, Armaan, and a group picture of everyone in the office besides him. It pierced his heart to know that he held very little importance in her life. Then why did he feel them he thought? Why were there these sensations? These sparks? And then he saw a little tiny drawer that said, Ananya Kashyap on it. He shouldn't open it right? Technically he's editor in chief so he can do whatever he wants...that he knew was no real justification. But Kabir Sharma always wanted to know everything, by hook or by crook.

He opened it and found atleast 30 different bracelets. He remembered the time when he first noticed them. Ananya had a distinct style, one that is eccentric, one that is unique, and one that young just as her soul. He then remembered his comment from the previous day and wanted to curse himself for the his roughness of words. He really is shrewd, Tarini was right maybe it IS time to bring back the old Kabir Sharma. But every time he attempts to do this, he gets hurt. He continued to shuffle through her drawer, and found a little ganpati, which he thought was adorable.

Then he found his special article, a broken elephant necklace, and then his eyes came upon something shocking. They were pills. Some kind of pills, he knew were not over the counter. Desvenalafaxine, he looked the medication up. His doubts became true, It was a serotonin-norepenepherine reuptake inhibitor. Why was Ananya taking Anti-depressants? His heart broke into a million pieces, and wanted to scream this question out to the world? Was he the reason? No, why would she give him that much importance? Was her dad the reason? The fact that he couldn't be there for her shattered his composure, and anger filled him once again...

PRECAP:

Kabir: Ananya I'm sorry.

Ananya: Sir, kisike bhi drawer main aise haath nahi daalte. Kal agar koi bhi aapke cabin main bina pooche aajaaya to aap to unki insult hi kardenge na, as usual? Ye to breaking news mein hona chaahiye. THE KABIR SHARMA, violates employee's privacy...

Kabir: Tum sirf meri Employee nahi ho Ananya, tum usse kahi zyaada ho.

Ananya: Oh really Tarini se bhi zyada maine rakhti hu?

Ananya couldn't believe what slipped out of her mouth, she knew she had crossed the line.

Chapter 2: The wrong Investigation

A few hours passed, everyone was at the office but no signs of Ananya... Kabir kept looking toward Ananya's desk from his cabin's glass walls, but she was still missing. Worry filled his emotions, and soon he found himself in front of Richa's desk..

K: Richa, where is Miss Kashyap?

R: She really needed a personal day, voh kal aayegi.

K: Kyun?

Richa wondered why sir was interrogating about Ananya with so much concern, but ignored her speculations by assuming it was work related.

R: Pata Nahi sir, ek hafte se tired lag rahi thi.

His anger was not subdued, it only exasperated with worry and hurt. He knew that depression was more common amongst women, and in no way judged her for feeling down. She had gone through a lot in the past month, but what conquered him with guilt was for not calling her, not asking how she was; most importantly, not expressing his devotion in their friendship. He wanted to be her unconditional support system. In deep thought he recognized his mistake. He knew that Ananya had been following him for eight years, considered him her hero. But what had he done intentionally to make her feel special in his life? He saved her life, and gave her professional recognition here and there. But what did he really do to make a spot for himself in her life that was beyond her own perceptions? Nothing.

The day passed dull as ever, and at 10PM he rang her doorbell.

He looked at her in awe. Her cuddly pink pajamas fell onto her body like a swiveled up fresh blanket of snow enhancing her petite curves. Her bunny slippers made Kabir want to chuckle out loud, but he controlled his laughter, because the mesmerizing beauty in front of him diverted his attention to her loose high bun, and the few curly strands astray on her forhead. He wanted to bring them home, by putting them behind her ears, but she looked too adorable to touch, to ruin, to roughen by what he thought was his touch. She had sleepily opened the door without looking into the peephole.

K: Ananya, tum bina dekhe darvaazaa mat kholakaro

Her eyes were still drowsy and she thought she was dreaming.

A: Par sapne main kya zaroorat hai dekhne ki, main jaanti thi aap hi hoge...

Kabir was taken aback but instantly understood what she meant, it made a smile creep up on him and a blush that was evidently not the typical Kabir Sharma. He pinched her...

K: Aap sapna nahi dekh rahi miss kashyap

Ananya instantly snapped out, and realized that THE kabir sharma just saw her like this. Yesterday he basically called her a grandma, and now she looks like a ten-year old. Clearly, God wasn't on her side she thought, but then maybe he was she though sheepishly...since THE KABIR SHARMA actually showed up to her house...again...but why???

A: Sir, aap, yaha? Is waqt?

K: Ha voh...as he entered the home, he didn't know how to bring up the topic. Without thinking too much he pulled out the bottle of pills from his pocket...

Ananya was shocked at finding her anti-depressant pills in Kabir's hands. She knew what he had done, and felt beyond embarrassed at the thought of Kabir Sharma looking through her stuff. What if she had left something in there that wasn't supposed be seen by his eyes? Like that notebook she writes in which had Kabir Sharma written all over it on one of the Pages. The thought made her want to cringe and burst out in frustration, but it also made her feel dejected and vulnerable. He didn't respect her enough to leave her stuff alone? Or did he not trust her? Was he judging her for needing prescribed drugs for her depression? What was he thinking? Her emotion took over her head and a tear rolled down Ananya's softened face.

Kabir: Ananya tum aaj nahi aai thi to...

Ananya: To appne bas soch liya ke, voh nahi hai to uski chaan bin karlu, shayad voh kisi underwold mafia se judi ho, aur use mujhe story miljaaye haina sir? This is wrong, aise koi investigate karta hai? She asked with utter disappointment.

Kabir knew what he did was wrong, but he didn't regret it. Why? He felt like he had some right over being able to look through her belongings. What was this feeling? He ultimately understood that possessiveness of her and her belongings was going to be a difficult ocean to swim out of, because although he knew he had some spot in her life, it wasn't the one he wanted: at the least, not yet. He wanted a right, but he didn't have it. Because rights cannot always be demanded, they too have to be given. Melancholy spread across his face.

Kabir: Ananya I'm sorry.

Ananya: Sir, kisike bhi drawer main aise haath nahi daalte. Kal agar koi bhi aapke cabin main bina pooche aajaaya to aap to unki insult hi kardenge na, as usual? Ye to breaking news mein hona chaahiye. THE KABIR SHARMA, violates employee's privacy...

Kabir: Tum sirf meri Employee nahi ho Ananya, tum usse kahi zyaada ho.

Ananya: Oh really Tarini se bhi zyada maine rakhti hu?

Ananya couldn't believe what slipped out of her mouth, she knew she had crossed the line. She knew that what she blurted out was too violating his privacy. But she too did not regret it. She knew she didn't have the right to say this, but she wanted the right.

And then there was silence. Drop dead silence. Ananya could feel Kabir getting tensed, his jaw clenching, his fists tightening. She knew that he was about to explode...but what he did next took her completely by surprise...

Kabir took two deep breaths and started walking towards the door, Ananya knew that he was leaving, and she didn't want him to take even a step towards the outside world. She wanted him completely immersed in her own. She quickly, tried to come in front of him to block his path. He tried to walk ahead, but she was in the way again. She couldn't meet his eyes when her eyes were packed with so much shame. She looked down and began to speak.

Ananya: aap aise nahi jaa sakte, aapko...aapko meri poori baat sunni hi hogi, voh mein, I didn't mean...Before she could say anything she felt Kabir's warm gaze and invigorating scent of masculinity. There was only a fraction of space between the two, as he advanced his hands towards the strands of hair astray on her forehead. He was lost in her glistening deep brown eyes, and he gently tucked the strands behind her delicate ears.

Ananya couldn't comprehend the glimpse of this different Kabir, he was tender, earnest, and endearing. But she couldn't stop her bubbling words from gushing out...

Ananya: Voh Tarini, I...main...nahi kenhna chaati thi, main hospital mein aayi thi tab...

She could now see that the man, who was just passionately lost in her eyes, had quickly sealed his with agony.

Kabir tried to follow her words realizing she came to the hospital that day. She didn't even bother to say hello? He understood that she must have seen him with Tarini, but how could she doubt him, when she was the one who knew he had been framed when it came to the affair rumors about Tarini. How did her faith in him change over night? What did he do wrong for her not to trust him? Why? He thought to himself, why is that I Kabir Sharma who runs after truth, and always reveals the truth, cannot be trusted for the truth and sincerity that I try to radiate through my actions? No one is able to recognize it, but not even Ananya?

Ananya: Sir, aap sun rahe hai? Main voh, I was confused...

Kabir was hurt, and didn't want to hear anything from Ananya at the moment, he wanted solitude.

Kabir: Ananya, kehne aur sunne keliye kuch bacha nahi...He left before she could try to stop him again.

Ananya tried to rethink the events of the night again, guilt instantly took over her conscience. She realized that he probably came because he was concerned about his depression, why else would he come with the pills? ...

Kabir was driving home, and in his thoughts he understood that violating her privacy was something he shouldn't have done. He realized that he deserved a little pain from Ananya, because he equally gave it in return. He realized that he over reacted; he realized that he touched her beautiful soft curls; he realized that he was lost in her eyes, he realized that he might have also crossed the line, but he didn't regret any of it. Because he knew, that somehow things would fall into place. That he would try this time, and maybe just maybe she might trust him again.
