Chapter 1: The belongings...
She always felt them. She felt a rush go down her spine, as the goose bumps on her skin started to formulate, constricting each and every vessel in her body. It was a cold, beautiful, illuminating night. She knew that today at 9pm Kabir sir would finally return to read the news. Just the thought of him made her reach out for her new red sweater. She didn't like it one bit, but the thought of a returning Kabir Sharma gave her pangs of shivering sensations that she couldn't handle. Ronnie had gifted her the sweater a couple days ago. She had not much to comment about his taste in style, it wasn't the best. A gift is a gift, and held much sentimental value for Ananya. He was one of her best friends, she didn't really know how to say no. It served its purpose today, an extra she decided to leave in the office for cold days ahead. It was 8:30. She decided to work on the lead she had collected information on that morning. She was worried about this one. If everything about this lead was correct, it would be her first international story. But after losing an interview to Richa, she felt a little broken, a little disheartened. Not because she didn't think she was capable, but because Kabir sir had insisted that Richa work on that story now. If her so-called hero and inspiration didn't motivate her and keep faith in her, then it seemed to her that all her efforts as a budding journalist went in vein. A lost in her thoughts Ananya was walking out the door to leave for home. Just as she was about to open the door, a late rushing Kabir Sharma came in as a storming sensation, and "WHACKK." Ananya Kashyap was on the floor rubbing her forehead with dismayed expressions.
A: "OUCH." She yelled. "Dekh ke nahi chal sakte."
Kabir didn't have time to pacify her right now, but his heart wanted to do only that. He knew he had to maintain his crudity for the time being, until he was ready to deal with all of this without anger, passion, and lack of control. He needed to bring back composure to his temperament.
K: "Sorry miss Kashyap, aap dikhi nahi."
He didn't see me? She thought to herself. Of course he didn't see me, he has very little space in his life for me she thought.
K: Vaise miss Kashyap aap in chashme aur sweater mein Bahut ZYADA mature lag rahi hai. Just letting you know, attire badalne se log aapko zyaada seriously nahi lenge. Aapke kaam se lege, so go home get sleep. Come back tomorrow to do work, Goodnight.
Was he trying to say I'm old? Ananya looked at herself in the mirror that night. She was only twenty-five, but in the past week she seemed to have aged by five years. There were severe bags under her eyes, her skin was paler than ever, and she seemed to have forehead wrinkles? How is that possible? She realized that she needed a break. She needed rejuvenation. Kabir sir was right, if attire didn't make people take others seriously in the world of journalism, then why not change it up? She needed to give herself a break from work, and get her beauty sleep. She decided to call off the next day.
He kept looking at her empty desk. He was there super early today; he wanted to make up for the missed time in Singapore. Not just for the work, but lost time with Ananya. Of course in his head he made up excuses about why he was really there. Nobody besides Malvika was at the office.
Malvika: "Kabir, tum yaha itni subah subah? Koi nayi romanchak story hai kya?"
K: "Kuch aisa hi sochlo" he smirked.
She continued to blabber her weekend plans to him, and he continued to ignore her getting lost in his thoughts. He tried hard to ignore how he last saw Ananya in Ronnie's arms, but that image was haunting him day and night. Was he Jealous? Was THE KABIR SHARMA jealous? Or was he just disappointed that Ananya Kashyap called him a friend but hasn't given him the spot of her best friend yet? Why did I drink again? What is wrong with me? I do not lose control like that. I have only one goal, and that is to etch my name in the history of Journalism.
Malvika: "Kabir, kya soch rahe ho?"
K: " Ananya Kashyap ke bare main." He instantly realized his slip of tongue.
Malvika: " KYA???"
Kabir tried to cover up his concerns for a special Miss Kashyap,
K: Soch raha hun main use ek warning de du.
Malvika: Actually main bhi yahi soch rahi thi, kuch din se uska kaam pe dhyaan nahi.
K: matlab?
Malvika: She seems to have lost that "SPARK" that you think she has...mujhe to pehle se lagta tha ki ye ladki paagal hai.
K: Paagal to hai. He said with his subtle smirking looks.
Maalvika insisted on bringing Kabir Coffee, and he decided to take a stroll outside. He walked over to Ananya's desk. He never got the chance to look at her space from up close. He saw a picture of her mother, father, Armaan, and a group picture of everyone in the office besides him. It pierced his heart to know that he held very little importance in her life. Then why did he feel them he thought? Why were there these sensations? These sparks? And then he saw a little tiny drawer that said, Ananya Kashyap on it. He shouldn't open it right? Technically he's editor in chief so he can do whatever he wants...that he knew was no real justification. But Kabir Sharma always wanted to know everything, by hook or by crook.
He opened it and found atleast 30 different bracelets. He remembered the time when he first noticed them. Ananya had a distinct style, one that is eccentric, one that is unique, and one that young just as her soul. He then remembered his comment from the previous day and wanted to curse himself for the his roughness of words. He really is shrewd, Tarini was right maybe it IS time to bring back the old Kabir Sharma. But every time he attempts to do this, he gets hurt. He continued to shuffle through her drawer, and found a little ganpati, which he thought was adorable.
Then he found his special article, a broken elephant necklace, and then his eyes came upon something shocking. They were pills. Some kind of pills, he knew were not over the counter. Desvenalafaxine, he looked the medication up. His doubts became true, It was a serotonin-norepenepherine reuptake inhibitor. Why was Ananya taking Anti-depressants? His heart broke into a million pieces, and wanted to scream this question out to the world? Was he the reason? No, why would she give him that much importance? Was her dad the reason? The fact that he couldn't be there for her shattered his composure, and anger filled him once again...
PRECAP:
Kabir: Ananya I'm sorry.
Ananya: Sir, kisike bhi drawer main aise haath nahi daalte. Kal agar koi bhi aapke cabin main bina pooche aajaaya to aap to unki insult hi kardenge na, as usual? Ye to breaking news mein hona chaahiye. THE KABIR SHARMA, violates employee's privacy...
Kabir: Tum sirf meri Employee nahi ho Ananya, tum usse kahi zyaada ho.
Ananya: Oh really Tarini se bhi zyada maine rakhti hu?
Ananya couldn't believe what slipped out of her mouth, she knew she had crossed the line.
