Kabir's work ethics give challenges to Ananya's principled stance, and the friction next
The backdrop of Reporters's story is KKN news channel and touches upon the subject of news ethics and reporting. Kabir Sharma joins the KKN news channel as the Editor-In-Chief with his upfront, fearless approach and knowing well his worth. Khalid, the head of news channel backs Kabir as they share mutual goals on wanting to see the channel getting top ratings in a week time after Kabir's joining date. Kabir shows an instance of his defiant attitude by exposing the ex-minister Pannalal Chaturvedi via a video footage showing his covert and illegal marriage. Kabir moves on to his next story and believes that the presentation of news matters.
Ananya Kashyap is a junior reporter at the same news channel and she is an awe of Kabir but her first introduction didn't go well as she stammers instead of talking freely. Ananya carries pain inside since her dad has been a victim of false charges and the media who didn't took a stand on the truth. She keeps high hopes with Kabir after Chaturvedi's expose but soon going to have a change of mind about Kabir and his thinking. The reason is Kabir's retorting to not journalistic means for ratings sake and can manipulate both news and its presentation.
He haven't met Ananya before but knows about her. Soon, a friction is going to be developed between Ananya and Kabir for the case where a Bollywood actress has been charged in the sex racket. Kabir present the news as it is, and puts the onus on the people (viewers) to decide about the actress involvement in the racket. However, Ananya takes a principled stand and wants tocorroborate that news by getting the statement from actress herself. While, he works as a chief editor and wants his staff and also Ananya to take prior permission before dvelving more into news reporting.
However, she decides to bypass Kabir's orders and prepares to get actress' statement and then see Kabir's response - whether the truth is appreciated or not. As far as Kabir's case regarding actress's case, he already hinted at the conclusion about her involvement without confirming the truth and reality. Therefore, there is interplay of two opposite personalities - Ananya & Kabir, and also separation between ranks - junior reporter vs. editor. Additionally, the senior staff Manav who keeps a grudge against Kabir on getting the top job is playing out alongwith the broadcaster Ronnie who provides a stabilizing effect at their organization. For how long, Kabir would take the upper hand with his decisions and how does Ananya's principles and stance play out at her work.
