I remember that for elder suryaputra karn an actor was chosen (i do not remember his name). He lost 8 kgs for the role and did photoshoot for promo in his costume. Suddenly gautam rode was finalised and it was said that gautam was the first choice but would be free when mahakumb is completed.
Bearing in mind the above casting i would not rely even on 100% confirmation that rohit would be selected as elder ashoka as any change can happen at the last minute. Even actors get changed after getting in the show. So unfair but it is a reality.
After seeing rohit as altunia i now strongly think he would be perfect as elder ashoka. His eyes are even more intense than sid's eyes. What do we need more? Oh yes six pack which he is preparing for.
I hope he is not reparing for a reality show. But nach balliye would be great.

@over - I agree completely with you about sword fighting and horse riding and i do hope ashoka castings managers do watch RS for altunia sake. May be tranformation which he is talking about is six pack. Even without six pack he looks top of the world with his lean muscular body. Would not like him to resemble beefcake. I so wish he would give us some more clues about what he is up to.
Do you know rohit's height. He looks tall in RS but quite medium height in sanskaar laxmi. What an enormous difference between his characters in RS and SL. His talent was underestimated all that time. No overacting at all in RS. So impatient for leap in ashoka to happen and watch him romance at least 5 female leads.
