Confession: I have not watched rang-rasiya since the mangalsutra episode. I was travelling, and when I got back home, things were so busy I didn't have time to catch up. I kept up via the forum, but didn't feel like I could say anything since I hadn't seen the episodes. Watched the suhaag raat episode, and I felt, chal, in-spite of all the other apparent conflicts regarding plot, characters etc, at-least Parud are still consistent, and growing as characters. I was happy.
Then all this happened. And my initial reaction was, w%#$%#. Rudra's entire existence is defined by Paro! How can they kill her?!?! This is a suicide mission!!! Such a beautiful story, such beautiful characters, who grew together in such a lovely way, and this is how they choose to END it?? Really?!?!
Then, I read some comments and had a few thoughts. Paro's life has been at stake since the day we met her. Honestly, she's a ticking time bomb. She's lived so far because of him. He made himself her rakshak, or else this would have happened a long time back. I think in our love for their story, and the passion and gentle moments, we forgot that essentially this is a violent love story, where angst and doubt rule. We got a brief respite, but that was never what Rang Rasiya was supposed to be about.
Secondly, the story has been rife with symbolism from the Shiva Parvati story. Did we forget, Paro made a promise to Bholenaath that she broke? Whatever or however it was that that came about, the bottom line is that there have to be consequences for something like that. Especially for someone like Paro, whose faith is so strong and absolute.
Keeping in mind the mythological aspects here, maybe, just maybe, we were looking at it in the wrong way. Maybe Paro represents Sati, and not Parvati. In the story, Sati sacrificed herself, because she couldn't bear to see Shiva insulted. Shiva then did his taandav and destroyed everything. And spent the next many eons in solitude, angry-young-man, until Sati was reborn as Parvati. Shiva, still madly in love with Sati, could not even look at another. And so Parvati did intense tapasya for her love. And finally Shiva relented.
We have seen many aspects of the Shiva-Parvati stories, but what if Paro is Sati? Sati also tamed a wild Shiva. At her death, Shiva withdrew again, and only the coming of Parvati made him re-emerge.
I would be interested in seeing how this next phase is expressed. All I can say is I really really hope that Saurabh Tiwari has a damn good plan, hopefully this was part of the plan, and was thought out properly, because this is a HUGE shock to give the fandom, just 6 odd months in.
