Mohini, take a bow

After that emotional episode involving the quadruple story of the brothers and the sisters and the jethani-devrani saga, today was a refreshing consistency in characters. I love Rangrasiya for maintaining the characters' personalities throughout and today was an excellent example.

First of all, I want to comment on how brilliant the back story of the four adults of the Ranawat parivaar is. And most of all, who impressed me the most is Mohini. What a well penned down character and they have chosen a very talented and the right actress for this ultra grey role.

When people were almost ready to give Mohini the benefit of doubt and feel her pain, she bounces back today to her power-crazy and venomous self again, after shedding those crocodile tears. What is an excellent hack by the Cv's is, that we viewers are left to decipher which of her tears were genuine and which ones were an act. I love that they have made her such a realistic and believable character, because she is no run of the mill evil saas or your regular one shade villain. She is a complex lady, with multiple layers and a personality that is based on what happened to her in the past. Who knows if Mohini was a different person before this whole Mala and Dilsher event burned her down? My guess is, Mohini was probably a happy go lucky girl, and maybe the sibling rivalry and jealousy from Mala pre-existed at a subconscious level, but this one turn in her life, brought about the dormant volcano and she became an embittered and cold person over the years. I absolutely laud the writers for giving so much depth to this character and from one single event in her life. Honestly, having studied psychology, I absolutely understand the likes of Mohini. Mala, is the better looking one out of the two. Possbily, in childhood, Mala could have been the white swan of the family and probably outshone Mohini everywhere, not only on looks, but possibly on personality too. No matter the love between sisters, this could have been a big subconscious blow to Mohini for years. And then, to have Mala be chosen by the man who Mohini wanted, was exactly the explosion her inner turmoil needed to turn completely against Mala. Mala, was wrong in choosing to marry Dilsher. But I'm not sure if Mala even knew Mohini had already set her heart on him. So one can't blame her. But to have Danveer marry Mohini as compensation, was very wrong. This also, is what Mohini assumes. We don't know if it was Mala or Dilsher who decided to get Danveer to marry Mala. Or what if Danveer fell for Mohini and told his brother to set them up? 😆 That would surely help Mohini's bruised ego and might even help their damaged relationship. I kind of think that is what it is. And because poor Danveer fell for Mohini, but she only looked at him as a consolation prize for coming second in the race, she never ever loved him back. And this is why Danveer is sort of distant from Mohini and so disillusioned in her. He probably even tried his best to make her overcome what happened and start on a happy note with him, but all these years he only got a wife who was cold and venomous about it and never even tried to have something with him. Who wouldn't be as passive and placid as he is now?

As for Mohini, a brutal blow to one's ego can be an eternal pain, if you don't let go. And Mohini is not one to let go of anything, be it her ego, or her power or her haveli. I don't even blame her too much to be honest. She put in her sweat and blood to keep the haveli going, to raise her children and the family business simultaneously, to single-handedly reign and get to the status they are at now. And this probably wouldn't even be possible if she did not have such a torrid pain in her heart that made her so strong and single handedly focus on power, because that is the one thing she never had when Mala was around. You see, it all boils down to that. It is this power that makes Mohini's low self-respect from ages ago disappear. She empowered herself, even if in this way, to never feel beneath someone else again. I would say kudos to her, instead of wallowing in self-pity all her life. And now when she was the only one running the haveli, every one else, especially Dilsher and Mala who were the cause of her misery years ago, come back to remind her of everything again. If a person has not let go of the past, how would one tolerate the same people living in one's home, in front of one's eyes and always being a threat to bring back that bruised ego out once again? I don't think she is afraid of her power being snatched, but she is afraid of receding to second best when Mala is around once again. This is her psychology. She only thinks it's the power she is afraid to give up, but it is so much more than that. It is the fear of going back to the start and having that inferiority complex with Mala and Dilsher. What a fantastic character sketch!

Why she did not give a chance to Danveer, is the sad part of this story, because Danveer looks like a sweetheart of a person to me. But he is weak, in front of his brother Dilsher. Dilsher, even with the handicap that he has now, comes across as the more powerful brother amongst the two, just based on personality. Danveer is probably a Mohini between the two brothers. Sadly, Mohini saw Dilsher first, other wise, she and Danveer do make perfect sense, if things had not turned out this way. They would have made a very sweet couple in fact. 😉

Mala, on the other hand, we are yet to see her back story with Tejawat and Dilsher. Only then can I figure out how much of a hand she had in this fall out. For now, she does come across as the one who had her hands in gold everywhere. Tejawat wanted her, Dilsher wanted her, in both their homes, she was the white swan in power, as Mohini's jethani and wife of the property owner and as Teju's thakurain. Mala probably never looked at it this, but see it from the eyes of the sister who has always played second fiddle to her. She ruled in the haveli, until she probably fell in love with Teju ( or whatever is the story behind her leaving) and then she ruled in Teju's mahal, until she found out his truth. Either way, she would come across as the one who had it all. Sadly, it is her who has lost everything today. Karma? Or a cruel hand of destiny that took away everything from the one who always got it all and gave everything to the one who never had anything. Mohini today, has everything, be it the love of her children, the ruling of the haveli and business, and somewhere even respect from her husband.

Coming to today's episode, boy, was I glad to see the fiery Mohini back in form with her spitting fire and the fake acts of gaining sympathy. Because, that is consistent with her character. She has kept this pain and humiliation for so many years in her heart, one honest emotional outburst wasn't going to change her emotions at all. She will regard Mala as the naagin ( as she said) in her life forever, and will always hold this huge grudge. She will fight for her power and status in the haveli and in the business, even though I doubt any one wants to take that from her. For her, the bond with her sister is not even a part of her childhood memories, she has simply cut her out from her life. Her relationship with Danveer might change if his side of the story comes to the fore front. One cannot deny though, when she said, she stood by her husband ( maybe not in the emotional sense, but physical sense) and kept her family together, even if this was not her choice. Whereas Mala left the husband and child and ran away like a coward, even though she chose this herself. Says a lot about both the sisters and their personalities. Danveer probably does see that too and somewhere appreciates Mohini, which is why he never really chides her or humiliates her despite her poison filled mind and plans.

The actress doesn't even need too many expressions to portray her dialogues, she does it with her eyes. What a powerful performance in the last couple of episodes. Loved Mohini back in form today, because that is how I like her.

I hope the Cv's develop more on Mala and give her complex layers too. Rudra is already a favorite of mine with how his character has been sketched out. A very great write up was written by someone on the forum comparing Rudra and Mohini and I agree with that analysis completely. Rudra is his maasi's bhanja in every sense. Except, Rudra found Paro to heal him and Mohini never discovered that her balm was the silent, but loving Danveer. Mohini has more years of embitterment and Rudra is def not criminal in his thinking, but they both sure are venomous. Rudra has let of his fire thanks to Paro, but Mohini is never going to go that way. Dilsher has had a good turn out on his character so far, from being the messed up father to trying to repent and change things, even without his back story with Mala having come out yet. I want Cv's to show more of Danveer, and Dilsher- Mala story, plus Mala-Tejawat story.

Paro, is consistent too. I was annoyed when she mentioned Mala in the middle of her romantic moment with Rudra, but that is her character too. She will run for the people she loves before thinking of her short lived romance. So, way to keep it consistent.

I have one single request now. Show us some more of Samrat, Sumer and Sunehri too, when Mala, dilsher danveer Mohini track wraps up. I would like to see their character sketches too.

Beautiful analysis Pari! In real life, people are rarely white or black! And they have brought in the nuances really well.
Mohini loves to hurt, she carries poisoned darts in her arsenal and enjoys deploying it on her so called adversaries. She does not spare her own son - Samrat- he has caused her angst by not giving her a grandchild and making people talk. She wants people to acknowledge her, her power.

And yes, I am in awe with the lady and thankful that she is part of my life 😆😆😆

Please do write regular analysis on other characters too. Really worth a read. 👏

@POV

Rightly said. She doesn't even hesitate to put her son down in front of everyone, nor bring the axe on her own child when she is in danger. She wasn't happy for samrat, not because he did it on his own, but because he did it without her help and took dilshers instead. It was again losing to dilsher that overtook her feeling happy or proud of samrat.

I don't support Mohini for her evil murderous plans, but I do understand the circumstances that she let shape her this way. I say she let, because not everyone turns so bitter over the same things that happened to her.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments :) hopefully I'll get to write something on Rudra and Paro soon. I am still trying to figure how I feel about Paro though so once I am sure I hope I can write about her.
