He's the most useless character on the show and never does anything useful. But today was just too much, I mean his mother confessed so much yet he didn't utter a single word or even change expressions. WTH! He's just good for nothing and should be kicked out too so Maithili can find someone better than him who has a spine.

I'm just gonna say it. I've waited three months to be sure but I think the guys playing Samrat is a BAD actor. Thats all there is to it. If you think about how much can be done with no dialogue, think about Ashish's entire Friday performance at their dining table. No dialogue, yet I couldn't take my eyes off his face. Okay, I'm partial, he's the hero--but a few glances at Maithli , a horrifed expression-- anything could have helped Samrat out. He had LITERALLY no expression on his face that entire time.

And today was even worse, because he actually had a few lines. Look...he could have done a kind of trembling anger with Parvati, who just ripped his mother's self respect to shreds. Okay, Rudra is right there, Samrat is rightfully scared of the Major --how about suppressed rage and total shock at Maithli's role in all this? When he hears his WIFE GOT kidnapped by his brother, he looks mildly curious about this info--like someone told him yesterday's weather report.

The actress doing Maithli conveys shock, fear, timidity and bravery with fifteen seconds of screen space. Samrat shows nothing. Pointless to even have the camera on his face. The chair that Rudra broke for havan fire conveyed more feeling and emotions to the audience as it shattered. Wooden doesn't begin to describe Samrat.

Today, while his mother/brother is being revealed as a potential killer, his family Samrat did some expressions. I wont lie. To me they said :

"I am now thinking about exactly which of my white kurtas I need to send to the laundry.. oh, turns out Maa is a poisonous, vicious killer, how sad... Did Maithli have time to cook food? Now..hmm... do I eat daal chawal or roti for lunch..hmm.. bhook nahi hai...Police ayega... oh, Maithli got kidnapped because Sumer did it? naughty boy..what was I thinking? oh right...where the hell did I leave my phone charger..."

Initially on the show, Samrat had some balls, He went to the BSD office to ask Rudra to let the workers back in, he even told Maitali his mother was doing drama with the havan. The writers have dragged his character down to nothing.
Saying that, I just find him useless as a husband. I cannot bear to watch poor Maitali with him. She deserves a real man. She must be so jealous as she watched Rudra stand up for Paro. I could not imagine being married to a spineless person like him. Hope he gets knocked in the head and comes out a better man for it.
I agree with your take.

The problem is the way his character is written. He is not sure on whose side he is so how can he give any expressions. There is a limit to keeping someone's character grey.
In earlier episodes he was concerned abt Rudra and his father, usurping their business and house. He even went to Rudra's office to warn him abt his ways( he even said no one can come and usurp their house and business). Then he saved Rudra's father and was praying for his recovery. He also wanted Rudra to get well after taking poison. These days he was happy with the whole family staying together. 😕(though there is not much difference in Rudra's attitude towards him or his family).
The CVs have been doing quite a good job with RR but they have to come up with a definite character for Samrat. I know he is a side character but he cannot just drift. They have actually made him useless except for the romantic scenes he has with Mythali and he is not very bad in those.
