"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of all things and no good thing ever dies. "

- Red in 'The Shawnshank Redemption'.

As the world gets more and more cynical, practical and isolated from the magic of the universe, its nice to see someone once in a while whose faith in the Almighty is staunch and stubborn. Someone who doesn't buckle under the pressure of panic and anxiety and patiently waits for her Lord Shiva to take care of all that is going wrong. She is worried but the power of her faith is greater. And when, destiny throws a curveball her way, she goes running to her idol and requests HIM to keep her faith. If her loved one did not wake up at the break of dawn, then, it must be a test of faith , to see just how much you are willing to stretch yourself for the one you love. So, she prays to HIM and hopes that her loved one will wake up , with the risen sun if not the sunrise.

But this... cynical, cynical world sees God with the eye of a mortal. And tells her that God will listen to her only if she barters something to HIM.

Confused and traumatized as she holds on to the edge of hope for her soulmate's life, the girl makes a pact with GOD. A pact that GOD never asked for.

If only that Priest knew and this fear-stricken world knew, all GOD demands is your surrender to HIS light and that too n your own sweet time when you find your way to HIM.

God's love is selfless, unconditional and irrevocable. That's the hope that this world is perched on.

Lord Shiva surrendered to Maa Parwati's selfless love, and there was no barter , no material condition.

Its horrible and terrible how we WEIGH God's love.

It was too heart wrenching today to see the girl's plight.
Hospital scene was too touching today.
She did react, she did break down for her husband and did a SHAANT on our on-fire forum😆

Faith does not demand barter! It is just there or not!
And where it is unwavering and uncompromising, the blessing will come.

Great post Vicky!

Beautiful MKM... You brilliantly wrote it down...

UPDATED...

As a kid I always asked my dad why are we bribing god to get our boons granted. Isn't god supposed to look after us and take care of us? That is what we were told - right? But as I grew up that part of me slowly diminished as I started offering God something in return for my wish. Because we are made to believe that. We are asked to pray to God in a certain way, offer him his favorite dishes and things. We are told that he will get angry if we don't follow certain rules, that he will punish us. I totally don't understand why God would punish us for something this trivial as not visiting his temple or not giving him prasad... It always makes me wonder if this is what god really wants from us. I am a little cynic when it comes to such topics.
We are programmed to be scared of god when we are supposed to love him. God is all about peace and love right then where did punishments and anger come from. Any way I am getting deep into this topic and totally going out of RR context. Let me stop here. I just want to say, I agree with every line of yours.

It is really hard to find the type of faith that Paro holds in today's world. And even if we want to, not many of us can get there. And that makes me love her more. Her faith is, was and will always be her strength. She held on to the hope of everything becoming fine, till dawn but when nothing changed she ran to her God to get what she wants, by
either pleading, begging or fighting or like the pandit ji suggested, bargaining. But why does she decide to bargain the love of her life for his life... when she could have happily given up something else important to her??? is something I want to see.

Love the character of Paro. I knew she was subtle but today I came to know she can be sensible too.

Loved the title and the quote you mentioned. Fantastic.

Thank you. Paro is a pious and spiritual soul and if she has made a pact with GOD , ideally she should keep it. How Rudra will react cannot be said. But the hand of providence will let Paro know sooner or later that GOD's love is unconditional and demands nothing in return. 😃

So true. It is us humans who barter with God. God really does not ask anything in return except total surrender. He is always there for everyone in some form or the other. We the ordinary mortals fail to recognize it. Sad.
Paro is god-fearing and yet has a staunch belief in him. All she is asking God is to keep her husband alive. I so wish that that priest hadn't told her to barter with God. poor thing. Really feel sad for her because she is going to listen to the priest.

Thank you😃. Human love , mostly, is conditional, full of expectations, so we tend to see GOD also in the same light. That is why we miss out on HIS magic. We try to buy HIS love.
