Hello hello forum-wasis, fans, bashers and stalkers! Welcome to one and all 🤗

First time creating a topic on the RR forum but after reading through several posts and not finding any that totally reflected my rather odd viewpoint, I decided why not go and create a topic instead. Perhaps some quiet mouses like myself will pop out and wave their paws 😆

So all day I have perused through several constructive and/or bashing posts of the episode last night and was truthfully turned off from watching the episode. I assumed that all this uproar meant one thing -> the show that I had recently become obsessed with was beginning it's journey down a slippery slope with a bang as big as when it started.

Poisoned laddoos had morphed into iron poisoning that leaves throats blue and could be stopped via strangulation after said poison has already entered the digestive tract was not exactly what I had signed on for when I started watching Rang Rasiya.

But what I had known from the start was that this is a daily soap being broadcast on a major channel against established competitor shows. Sooner or later, the TRPs gods would need to be bowed down to. Let's not get into a discussion about the value or accuracy of TRPs. That requires another thread and several glasses of wine.

Based on my limited viewing of desi soaps there are certain elements required to fetch TRPs:

* tears, trauma and tribulation preferably of the female lead but the male lead can join in every now and then

* specter of death even the most stupid or unlikely

* joining or separating of lovers over and over and over and over

* weddings/funerals/major festival that take at least a week to celebrate

* murderous and/or clever villain with a signature characteristic

* divine intervention with appropriate musical accompaniment and ever present wind

See the picture, folks? All desi soaps have most of these elements on at all times. And they are very very blatant about it. Switch on to any soap and you'll be able to pick these out. And Rangrasiya has always had them, it's just last night had all of them going on which is why everyone noticed.

Yes, we expected better but perhaps this is a chance for us to manage our expectations of the show. It can't always get it right. There are a lot of constraints in place and brilliance takes time. Of which they don't have much considering the pressure cooker that the industry is.

Was it a great episode? Hell no. Was it a horrible episode? Definitely for RR but not when you compare what other crap has been dished out by other soaps.

To give some examples from current and past hit soaps...

* female lead is engaged to male lead but gets married to secondary male lead, who is male lead's half brother, accidentally although no one is sure of validity of said marriage but female lead is emotionally blackmailed into staying with second male lead in his home for several weeks due to family pressure...why? Because the writer's wanted to stick to their original plot of conflict between the male leads due to female lead but had written themselves into a corner.

* female lead's husband's sister wants to marry female lead's ex-husband and everyone in both families is very hunky dory about it. 🤢

* prior to replacements simply being accepted, convoluted story lines would be cooked involving cars falling off cliffs etc and people returning with a new face via cosmetic surgery. No facial surgery is going to work that well.

* premature babies are delivered 3 Idiots style without an incubator insight

* complex surgeries are performed and patients are running marathons two days later. Okay RR played this card with Dilsher and his coma. Ugh.

* all mentally challenged men need is the love of a good woman. Really.

These things happen again and again. And what's worse is that they happen over a stupidly long period of time. Such a long time that people forget what things were like before the dumb track started.

So I for one am grateful that with Rangrasiya's bullet train speed, the required Neelkanth section was tackled with quickly. Could it have been better? Hell yes. Could it have been longer? Yes but thank you god it wasn't.

So thank you to the CVs for ripping off the band aid so quickly. You did your required prostrations before the OTT drama-lapping TRP audience. Now can you please go back to being awesome? Much thanks 😊

Oh I remember that one! I was actually in India when that started and was like what the hell am I watching? Is this for real? 😆

My sister told me about some of the later tracks in that show *shudders* FL sent to jail for mistakenly murdering someone but it wasn't her but then it was her and then it wasn't, someone got amnesia, someone wanted revenge, no one got old except the female lead despite twenty plus year leaps, I think there was a pregnancy or two in there somewhere as well 🤪

Can I add my 2 cents as a previous viewer of US daily soaps like General Hospital and Y&R? I guess I can never see what all the hungama is about, be it about ladoos or needles or anything else. In the shows I used to watch, it was a common thing for character's to come back from the dead! No one bats an eyelid, even though we would have just watched the said character's funeral (with body present mind you, not just missing) just a year back!😆 Everyone is happy that the actor came back!😃 And these shows have been running close to 30-40 years!
So a ladoo, neck squeezing, evil KCM, inconsistent episode etc. is nothing compared coming back from the dead.😃
RR in fact is quite logical (most of the time) for a daily fiction show. My opinion and I'm sure many will disagree but each to their own.
