Today's episode was about the reveal at the end of the Great Indian Rope Trick, which had suddenly and shockingly partitioned Dilsher's haveli, and left both parties on either side of it in ignorance of the other. It was only ever going to be a matter of time before Paro was revealed to Kakisa & Co, and they to her. And that momentous event took place today, inadvertently, before the magician intended, with far-reaching results.
In all fairness to Kakasa, he intuited that there was a secret behind the rope that Rudra wanted to conceal. And he was willing to go along with it, if only Rudra would cut them some slack with the business. But unnerved at his uncle's acute perception, Rudra shut him down by pulling rank.
It will never be known what would have happened if Rudra had confided in his uncle. Could they have continued to conceal Paro? And for how long? In any case that point is moot because today, Paro was a secret whose time had come.
The reason for Sunehri's entry last night became clear: she was to be the means that smoked out the ruby in hiding. So off went Sunehri purifying every corner of the haveli. It was fated that the holy fire had to be fed just outside Rudra's room; fated that Ranawat was sitting inside waiting for his cuppa; that Sunehri was called away, and left the smoke billowing into Rudra's room; that the inhaler rolled out of Ranawat's reach and was obscured in the clouds of smoke.
So that Paro had to call for help and had to emerge from the room to hand the inhaler over.
Came the reveal!
And jaws dropped ominously on all sides of the rope. It had to be rubber-jawed Kakisa who recovered first and demanded to know what miasma had drifted out on the smoke. Who was this ruby in the smoke who had come to corrupt her family? Sneering Sumer cast his own two bits of aspersion on Paro's (lack of) character. Why enquire about the background of a 'working girl' after all?
Her doubts confirmed, Kakisa wanted to immediately hand over dumbstruck and distressed Paro to the police. Sumer, of course, wanted to take matters into his own hands and had even taken a step or two towards Paro, when Ranawat decided he'd had enough.
In a previous post I had cast aspersions on Ranawat's ability to watch over Paro. I withdraw those comments unreservedly. Today Ranawat proved beyond a shadow of doubt that he was a more-than-able protector of Paro's reputation and well-being. His crutch was enough to thwart Sumer. It took a little quick thinking and lots more talking to shut Kakisa up. But Ranawat managed. So what if his imagination tripped up his steely intent? He was the Lord of the Manor after all and not answerable to mere mortals. Parvati was engaged to be married to Rudra, soon, anytime now, in fact, and that was all there was to it. Runaway tongues could skid to a standstill straightaway. And Parvati baisa could return to her room, honour intact!
Today the CVs unveiled the big 'event', the fallout of which will drive the plot onwards. And the fake/forced marriage is as big as it gets in Indian serialdom. With Ranwat's explanation falling short of throwing light on Paro's odd dress-sense, I foresee a quick trip to the tailor's/shops/Laila/Mythili or to Rudra's HQ to retrieve Paro's trousseau. The rope has served its purpose and must now revert to coiling at Rudra's beck and call.
Today's episode belonged to the supporting cast.
Kali Prasad Mukherjee takes the crown for his portrayal of ramshackle knight with a crutch. The actor who played Kakasa further cemented the characterisation of the uncle who knows his nephew better than himself. The actress playing Kakisa was convincingly caustic and irrepressible.👏👏👏 to all of them and to the CVs.
The CVs gave us a lot of razor-sharp lines in today's dialogue-laden episode.
Quite a few favourites that I'm reproducing here in Hindi so as to not dull the edge.
Paro to Rudra: Aap ne bigaada hai to theek karna bhi aap ki zimmewari! (cr: Showviewer)
Kakisa to Samrat: Rakhi dikha! Rakhi bandhi hogi na isne tujhe tabhi apni behen ko bachane koodh padha beech mein.
Kakisa: Bhaisa ne pehley hi bata diya hota ki yeh woh nahin WOH hai!
Kakisa: Bhaisa, iska naam galey ki kharash hai kya?
Ranawat: Chahey yahaan ka mausam kitna bhi bigadey, par iska kuch nahin bigadey!
A..and the honours are shared between Paro and Ranwat.
Waiting for tomorrow and Rudra's reaction to this untimely and uncomfortable reveal!
