Expression With Costumes...

I watched an old RBO clip today😊...

When Khanak was a new bride in Dulwahdhi...She literally looks like a doll, all dressed up in finery...Yashashri looks beautiful as a new bride...But one thing struck me...Khanak looked like a child dressed up in an adult's clothes...
I don't know if the designers have done this purpose, or it just looked that way due to Khanak's petite figure...But it made me think how Khanak style of clothes, reflects the changes in her life later on...As if the clothes symbolised or reflected her thoughts and feelings to the audience...Or perhaps to help us connect...
  • First we saw her as a carefree girl, in vibrate clothes...Full of life Khanak...
  • Then we see almost a child like bride in heavy sarees after her marriage...It reminded me of 'Gudda - Guddi' game, the child Khanak plays in the RBO promo'In hindsight, it's as if to show us, she doesn't know what real marriage is yet'Not till she marries Shantanu...
  • After that there were the widows mournful dark colours...
  • The wedding clothes for her second marriage didn't seem quite right on Khanak...Perhaps that was on purpose?...So that we could feel something wasn't quite right...
  • Once in Mumbai again her look changes to suit the environment...I suppose that change might have been for practical reasons too...
  • Then when Shaan chooses salwar suits for her, it's almost as if he is subconsciously liberating her and making her free again...His expression of feelings, with this small geature too perhaps😊...Yes I know I have returned to my favourite subject 😳...ShaNak..And all these changes might have happened in due course...But from what we know about RBO and attention to detail...I think they showed these differences to reflect changes and emotions😊...

We can see also see changes in Shantanu too...

  • His first scene with Natasha...As well as later on in the show, when she confronts ShaNak in the room, emphasises that Shaan wore what he was advised to...Or because Natasha chose his clothes...That was his attitude in life too perhaps...
  • In Dulwahdhi he needed to dress formally, but he still chose to wear jeans...Perhaps showing he finds his own way, even when following orders?...
  • After his marriage to Khanak, he wears simple formal shirts...But we can see that changes to a more casual style...As if to show their is stability in his life...During that time he starts to work etc, things improve with Khanak...
  • Once Khanak and he are friends, he is totally casual and relaxed...Wearing T-shirts and jeans, after they return home from their adventure...Even choosing his own shirts and funky ties, refer to our much loved ShaNak scenes😊...

So after my random rambling😳...I suppose I am saying that, such attention to the costumes is rarely seen on TV... In terms of clothes RBO is very realistic...Because all the characters wear clothes as real people would...The choice of clothes, added another layer to the psychology of the characters, without us realising...The costumes were not just for decoration...

I am 100% with you on this observation... Khanak's characterization was given a lot of careful attention unlike many other shows in Indian television... I am so glad that you also noticed the progression of the wardrobe for Shantanu's character. This show is unique for this very reason and I think my praise can never suffice for the superb direction and cinematography it had... Khanak didn't follow that random transition of being cladded in saares and weird jewelry after marriage (the first one and then again...) it appeals to realism a LOT more and it really gives the much overdone glossy tellywood appearance a much needed break. Lovely post May! I am on through my iPhone but I just had to post...

Lovely post Jenny👍🏼...Well said and that's exactly what I trying to say with my rather extented thoughts 😳😃...
I agree that RBO had so many aspects which are praise worthy and we can never do them complete justice 😊...The realism is something which many of us loved so much about RBO...The Khandelwal family were unlike the typical serial families...
Even Khushbu and Madhavi costume transition could be seen and they dressed normally, not like other over dressed saas and bahus😆...
We still keep discovering or being reminded of how well the show was made...And the attention to detail has always fascinated me...

😳...Besharam talk aside😆...ShaNak always wore complimenting clothes...They went so well together...
It seems that Shaan liked Khanak in a free, vibrant and simple dress style, as she was herself...He was able to freely express himself in her company too...Khanak's love literally bought more colours into Shaan's life and he was alot more relaxed in dressing after that...
So naturally their costumes complimented or more than often, matched 😃...
