As she looked at him in nervous confusion, he came up, took the glasses from her hand and put them back on her face, flicking the tip of her nose in the process. As she tried to back away, he moved closer so she was hedged into a corner and couldn't move without brushing against him. She looked around, and not finding an escape route leaned back against the wall, closed her eyes, knowing that looking at him would make her thoughts run wild.
Get away from me! She croaked.

Khanak felt dizzy, holding her breath, wanting to touch him, wanting him to burnher skin with his fingertips.

Seeing her opportunity she pushed him away and ran to her desk.
Not so fast He shouted as he tried to make a grab for her, but he couldn't do so before she reached the intercom.
Nurse D'souza, could you please come in right now!
Are you sure, Dr Agarwal?! There was a trace of hesitation in rs. D'Souza's voice.
Of course I am, have I ever been unsure in your experience? She asked desperate as he put his arms around her waist.

Khanak threw a triumphant look at Shaan as he hastily withdrew his hands, an admixture of anger and frustration on his face.
Then something made him change his mind and smile cryptically at her, making her nervous once again.
Khanak stood outside the clinic waiting for Shaan to bring his bike up front. He had somehow persuaded her to go out to lunch with him, threatening dire consequences if she didn't.
This is the first day of the rest of our lives together. And no matter what happens I want to make it a ritual that we spend some time with each other exclusively every day from now on. If I forget, you remind me and if you forget, I will. So what better way to start than a date, a lunch date!
She smiled thinking that Shaan really didn't have to try that hard, her hesitation was related more to keep up with societal obligations and norms rather than something she herself wanted. Once he realized that she wished to be close to him as much as he did all hell would break lose. So it was better to keep him guessing.

She turned around surprised to see Deepak who had materialized out of nowhere.

I don't shake hands with ruffians, especially those who mess around with my woman. (His voice was low and controlled.) I only play rough with such guys, but I won't because you are too much at a disadvantage. He said lifting his muscular arm, and threatening Deepak with his closed fist.
(Khanak felt a thrill when she heard these words, though she had never wanted to be called somebody's woman. She didn't mind being called Shaan's, it almost felt as if he was talking about his trophy, his prized possession. The feeling was primitive.)
It was clear that Deepak didn't like this, what gall do you possess to talk to ME like that! Who are you anyway?
Who am I? Shaan removed his helmet and gave Deepak his most charming smile.

Are you deaf as well as a bumbling idiot? Shaan said this as casually as possible. Can't you take a hint? He said winking at Khanak who smiled back and put her hand on his shoulder.
Shall I tell him Khanak and break his poor heart? He asked taking her hand in his and kissing it lovingly, while gazing in to her eyes, she acquiesced blushing.
Well, I am Khanak's new body guard, and our contract extends indefinitely. She has agreed to be my wife! So there you go Dr. D! I never did like you! (Challenging.)
Khanak!! Deepak's face was a sight worth beholding, You and this, this guy!? You are making a big mistake!!
Khanak's smile was beguiling, Not any bigger than if I'd been with you! Besides Shaan's a lot more handsome and a nearly perfect gentleman (the emphasis on nearly was clearly audible to Shaan who grinned back at her suggestively.)

Khanak smiled and waved at Deepak whose face was turning all the shades of the rainbow as he stood helpless watching them ride away.
Khanak giggled with relief, her hand holding Shaan's shoulder tightly. She whispered into his broad back,
