@ sonali
Thanks for this info.
The first show seems to be a blatant copy of Jodi Picoult's novel, My sister's keeper. Wasn't it made into a film? I so wish we had strict copyright laws in India. Will prevent this kind of plagiarism! 😡
I have serious doubts on the ability of people in our TV industry to handle a topic as sensitive as this, in a proper manner. the prodicers of Aap ki antara initially got lot of credit but eventually the show suffered, they had to go for a leap and then had to take the show off air. So, really doubt how this show will work.
The second show sounds like a take-off from Rajneeti😆
Sonali, your concerns are valid. But I doubt very much what we can do. Pls don't get angry with me for saying this but there is very little we viewers can do... from what you say about these 2 shows, it seems like Star One channel people don't have a proper strategy in place. I don't have an MBA but I do have enough knowledge and education to say that without a proper strategy, no venture will succeed.
1. Star One people have to first figure out whether this is a 'youth-based' channel or not! if it is not, why have Star Plus and Star One? Why not merge them into one channel?
2. If Star One has some USP that is different from Star Plus, what is it? I have not seen any show other than RBO on this channel. But I understood that all Star One shows had a love story as the main plot, very little saas-bahu drama, little rona-dhona, no festivals, no kadva chauth type rituals shown, etc etc....
That would change with the coming of that 2nd show. Because that will be about violence. Am not sure it will sit well with Star One audience.
3. How many people need to tune into RBO at 10 to get its TRP to 1? Thousands and thousands. is that possible? Like Shriya says, the competition is tough, and most houses in India have only 1 TV. Parents won't let children watch RBO if they are following Uttaran. Young people have to be up to watch the repeats later at night.
4. Who is responsible for making a show a hit? Not just the audience. It's the CVs- both from the channel and the production house (PH). RBO was about a young woman, widowed, finding love again in a man who was responsible for her widowhood in the first place. That has gotten lost in all this ShaNak wanak, ILU thing... I also love Shaan-Khanak and think they are very cute, but bhaiyya, story kahaan hai? Get back to it. Word will spread and people will automatically tune in....
