Okay, they are back to showing fiction - this time, Vishwamitra threatening Rama over Sita's vanvas. Incidentally, why is it so important for Narada to try and salvage Rama here?

Something which I too did not understand. 😕

Ashwamedha yagna announcement to start tomorrow

Talk about being sudden. K-L have not yet learnt the Ramayan, although they now know about divine weapons, medicinal herbs, retrieving swarna-kamals and all that. The Sagars did a good job trekking into completely uncharted territory, but now, are rushing this serial to an end w/o showing essentials like K-L learning the Ramayan from Valmiki, which was their most significant role in the original Ramayan.

Looks like Sagars are now racing to finish this disaster of theirs by June 26. Well, whatever...

Same

Initially, I thought that Gurmeet was just lip-synching, but later, the voice sounded more like his. Maybe Rupali, our resident Gurmeet expert, would know

Re: the horse, looks like Shatrughan & Hanuman are off on this task. Although I'm not exactly getting Hanuman's role here. 😕

In the Doubts & Discussions group, I'm opening another discussion as to the protocols re: who was eligible to accompany a horse.

Looks like they're now twisting Padma Puran. There, Shatrughan & Pushkal encountered a number of rulers who challenged them. Here, if K-L are going to capture the horse tomorrow and the battle w/ Daman hasn't even started, then one wonders whether they'll show even some of the challengers.

I have a book Anjaneya Puranam in Tamil, in which it mentions Pushkal & Daman fighting and Hanuman encountering Subahu. Hanuman kicks Subahu on his chest and later Subahu realizes as to who Ram is. Guess they'll show Senapati fighting Daman. Also the Senapati is a recycled one. He came earlier as Danu Gandharva (Kabandh).

The way Luv and Kush were portrayed in the 8 May episode was shocking. It was really disgusting to show that on seeing gold Luv and Kush were tempted so much that getting gold became their priority over getting the swarn-kamal. Their guru Valmiki, who has been taking care of them since their birth, is in the danger of losing his punya karmas if Luv, Kush do not bring swarn-kamal to the ashram in time. For the first time Baba said that they should go to Kuber-lok fast. But what do Luv, Kush do? They no longer consider it so important to get the swarn-kamal. But getting gold becomes their aim. When they do not find anything else to drop in water, then they drop their bows, which were given to them by their guru. On seeing the golden bows, they become so greedy that they lie that the bows belonged to them.

On one hand, the title song uses various glorifying words for Luv and Kush, Valmiki and other ashram-vasis are shown praising them no less. And on the other hand, Luv, Kush are shown to be liars and greedy.
Imagine somebody, who does not have knowledge of Uttar Ramayan and watches this serial to gain the knowledge? Will he not get a completely distorted picture of the epic? After all, this is not how Valmiki has portrayed Luv and Kush. In Valmiki Ramayan, it is written that Luv and Kush sang Ramayan so beautifully that people showered them with riches. But Luv and Kush politely declined saying that those riches were of no use to sanyasis.

The same defamation of not just Kush, but Sita as well, continued in the June 16th episode - the one where Rama sends Bharat to retrieve the horse. In this episode, Kush and Luv remember that they are to get the Sahasra-dal kamal back home by the end of the day so that the puja can be completed. After some arguing, Kush decides to go home, give the flowers and come back.

However, when he does get home w/ the flowers, Sita demands to know where he was, and where Luv is, and Kush tells her that he is out playing (while he is actually guarding the horse). Sita asks him whether now was the time to play, and he said that Luv would only come when he returned to get him. Sita then orders him to sit for the puja, thereby almost checkmating him, and when he wanted to go and get Luv, she accused him of wanting to get back to play. Kush was therefore forced to sit down for the puja, and after a few attempts of trying to sneak out, he succeeded.

This whole variation to the plot was needless, being as it was totally out of character for Sita and Kush. First of all, Sita was the one doing the puja - all Kush & Luv were asked to do was get the flowers, which they did. Given what those requirements were, once Sita got what she needed, she'd have been satisfied - being that accusatory towards her kids (a repeated theme of this serial) was totally out of character for her. Similarly, since the flowers would only be required at the end, they could have shown them take home the flowers after the battle (the way they did in the previous serial). Or else, they could have shown him giving it to the nani, and asking her to hand them to Sita. But showing this trap by Sita, and Kush having to sneak out in the middle simply depicts him as disobedient, and in the context of the devotion of his family, irreverent to the gods.

This defamation of various characters in the Ramayan is really getting tiresome 😡😡😡
