Mine wasn't so much an update, as much as a commentary on how the story of Bhrigu was covered. But thanks for giving the gist of what Durvasa tells Dasharath.

Incidentally, does Durvasa tell him that Rama's sons will be crowned outside Ayodhya, or born outside Ayodhya? The Sushma Gupta version says the latter. I mean they were crowned in Ayodhya, right, b4 being sent away to their kingdoms? Oh, and thanks for the 10000 number again - I wonder whether it's all overlaid, or Valmiki simply forgot to add?

One thing about Lakshmi - does she always just give Lord Vishnu foot massages? I can understand Sita doing that for Rama, but Lakshmi for Vishnu?

You probably have better sources than me, but the one I have doesn't mention Rishi Bhrigu's wife being revived. Akhl might be able to answer that one.

Note that the story that was narrated to Lakshman was actually a narration of a narration: Sumantra was telling Lakshman about a meeting Durvasa had with Dasharath, where he reveals to him that Rama will be separated from Sita. Dasharath was shocked to hear this, and so the story of Bhrigu was then narrated. Like I said earlier, I preferred this version to the original, due to the believability factor.

One more problem I had with Vaishistha telling Lakshman that suicide was sinful - isn't that how Lakshman finally ended it? If so, what's the point in telling him that?

Also, of Rishi Bhrigu's wife was revived, why did Vishnu still accept the curse? Thar would only make sense if the damage done was irrepairable. Also, if I am not mistaken, the original doesn't mention whether or not the rakshashas were killed, as they showed here.

P.S. 1100 for this thread!

Sumantra first narrates the story of Bhrigu rishi (7:50:5 onwards) then he talks about the prophecy by Durvasa (7:51-2)
7:50-5 mentions Rakshasas were killed by Vishnu in Devasur sangram.
In the story which I read about the curse , Vishnu revives Bhrigu-patni Usha(?) and accepts the curse saying that the words of rishis should come true whatever may, also that he didn't intend to kill his wife but did so temporarily till his task of killing rakshasa was done

Brilliant ideas. Now, would Shatrughan accompany Bharat in this vanvas? Or is it just B&M? And if Shatrughan goes, would Shrutakirti go as well? Or should she stay home in Ayodhya to look after the poor, lonely Kaikeyi? Note that as it is, the only bahu then left in Ayodhya would then be Urmila 😆😆😆 My, this is really getting complicated even to think of!!!

Haha, yeah this is getting complicated.😆 Hmm....I suppose we could let Shatrughan go with Bharat, but it would be more interesting if Shatrughan first killed Lavanasur, gave the kingdom of Mathura to Shrutakirti, and then left with Bharat and Mandavi to vanvaas. But we need someone to kidnap Mandavi don't we? How about Bhimasur? And we can make this even more dramatic and have Karkati try to seduce Bharat, only to have her nose and ears cut by Shatrughan. She goes complaining to her son Bhimasur, who kidnaps Mandavi as revenge, only to fall madly in love with her because of her beauty. Then Bharat and Shatrughan wage a war against Bhimasur, kill him, regain Mandavi, and become the Kings of whatever kingdom Bhimasur was ruling. And everyone lives Happily ever after. The End.😍😆🤪
Okay, okay, I promise I'm not high on something, but I couldn't help myself. This brilliant plot just came to my mind.
But Vibs is right. The story is back on track (somewhat), so I suppose KHRK is going back to being Ramayan. I just hope no more crazy deviations occur, and in the future, cute Sita and Luv Kush scenes are shown with mother-sons bonding moments.

Chandra, according to Valmiki Lakshman just leaves for Vaikunt with his whole body. He does not commit suicide. Indra just takes him to heaven. See below:

Here is the translation from Gita Press Srimad Ramayan:

" Having reached the banks of the Sarayu, he performed ablutions, restraining all senses, held his breath. The devas together with Indra, the Apsara, and all sages sprinkled flowers on him, who was performing yoga of restraining senses. Taking hold of Lakshmana alive invisible to men, Indra entered him in the heaven. Then all the great devas pleased at seeing the 4th part of Vishnu (coming back to heaven) honored indeed the descendant of Raghu (i.e. Lakshman).

Of course Valmiki describes the 4 brothers as 4 parts of Vishnu. I think it is the oral and other traditions which see Lakshman as Shesh Nag. Even then it would be the same. Lakshman goes to heaven, taken by Indra alive (unseen by men) and becomes Shesh Nag in Vaikunt.

There is no suicide by Lakshman.

Yup, this is the way Lakshmi is always shown when Vishnuji is in Yoga Nidra on the shesnag. Sagars got it wrong there. Vishnuji does not sleep on the shesh nag but is in Yoga nidra (the consciousness between sleeping and wakefulness; it is a yogic term).

Thanks for the info.😊 I did not know it was called Yoga Nidra. Here are some beautiful pics of Vishnu in Yoga Nidra and Maha Lakshmi pressing his feet.
