Those who have no taste for poetry nor devotion in the feet of Sri Ram,

This undertaking of mine will serve as a subject of delightful mirth.

My composition is couched in the popular dialect & my intellect is feeble

Hence those who laugh at it shall not incur any blame.

To those, however, who possess devotion to the feet of Lord Vishnu & Shiva & whose mind is not perverse,

The tale of the chief of Raghus will taste as sweet.

My composition is devoid of all charm, it has only one merit, which is known throughout the world.

Recognizing that merit, men of sound reason, who are gifted with unbiased reason, will surely listen to it.

It contains the gracious name of the Lord of Raghus, which is exceedingly holy & the very cream of Vedas & Puranas.

It is the abode of blessings & the remover of all evils.
