its the eve of the engagement prty and rani receives a package from an unknown sender. meanwhile, the lavish party is in full swing....with RS throwing the biggest party ever seen! Will CR be able to grin and accept this new obstacle in her plan? All will be revealed shortly....

I was smiling all through - first the old lady, then a teasing Rani and then Yudi's rice ---- what a beautiful moment!!!!!

Part 9

The afternoon had passed..evening was on its way, and with it, a sense of anticipation hung in the air over the gaaon. Villagers, and upper class people from cities, were all flocking to the mehel for what was to be a truly lavish celebration.

It was 2 hours until the party,and Rani was sitting on her bed, looking at the package. It had been waiting for her, on her bed, since she had returned from her midnight meeting! She smiled as she went to pick up the note next to it, thinking to herself that Yudi really didn't forget anything…

She opened the letter, and slowly read it with a small smile on her face.

(OK guys.. I am soo lazy and want to write this ASAP for you so this bit is in English)

"To my darling Rani,

I am restless…impatient….anxious to meet you. After so many days, you are going become my fianc... You have been the queen of my heart even before I met you…today your role in my life will become permanent. After today…it will only be a short while until I can call you Mrs Yudhistir Shishodiya….To celebrate this, here is a small gift from me…please wear this today…

Rani opened the package slowly, not wanting to rush… Her eyes widened with shock as her eyes fell upon a beautiful lehnga choli. It was a bright pink, and was made of the finest material, with a deep tie up back and flowing skirt. The skirt itself was covered in exquisite silver and pink crystal stonework, and the top a little less detailed, but delicately embroidered. The dupatta, with more stonework looked elegant and regal, in fact, perfect. Rani was amazed as she saw a further 2 boxes hidden between the different garments. She opened one box to find a beautiful silver set, the epitome of royal kundan jewellery. Its lavishness and beautiful sparkling diamonds amazed Rani…and this amazement was heightened by the box of beautiful pink churiyan with matching heavy silver kangan.

Rani, unable to stop herself grinning, kept looking at the outfit. She simply couldn't stop staring! Yudi had chosen the most perfect thing for her to wear, and Rani felt touched by this gesture. She was incredulous at the fact that Yudi knew each and everything about her.. he had managed to get the top made to the perfect fit, in the style she liked with a lowered tie up back, and even knew what size churiyan she wore! Truly, she was lucky. No normal guy would pick up on such things. In fact, Rani was sure that had she not met Yudi, she would have to marry one such man, who had no wish or desire to know about his wife. She was blessed, to have this almost fictional greek god before her as her partner, someone to not only love her, but understand her and want to get to know everything about her. She placed the sari gently back in the box.

Unbeknown to her, Sumitra was standing by the door, looking on at her daughter. She had never seen Rani smile so much, not since her father had died. And it was all down to Yudhister. Sumitra gently wiped a tear away from her eyes. Her daughter was so lucky to find someone that understood her, went out of his way to do anything for her, and loved to please her. She herself, although the marriage had been arranged, found herself close to her husband. Her family and life seemed so perfect. That is, until the accident had occurred 6 years ago. Since then, the day that she lost half of her own being, Sumitra's life hadn't been the same. She just prayed that Rani have all the happiness she had and that which was snatched from her prematurely, and that Rani and Yudhister's marriage lasted for eternity.

She was suddenly brought back to reality by the sound of Rani talking.

'Amma??? Kya hua aapko…?' (Amma..whats happened?)

'Kuch nahi Rani bitiya.. aaj aap ke papa ke bahut yaad aati.'(Nothing Rani…today..I am missing your father a lot..)

Rani hugged her mother tightly, a tear rolling silently down her cheek. As much as she too felt like crying at the bittersweet reality of this situation, she knew that she had to be strong for her mother.

'Amma… toh kya hua agar papa humaare saath nahi hain.. oonke duaayein aur pyaar..hamesha hamare saath rahenge na? Aur aap hain na… dadi aur munna ke saath…tho aap pareshaan mat hoyega..' (Amma.. so what if papa isn't with us today..his prayers and love are always with us na? And you are here.. with dadi and munna.. so don't worry…)

She wiped her mother's tears, glancing at the clock on the wall behind her mother as she did so. For as much as she enjoyed this time with her mother, she was restless. Restless to meet Yudi, to spend time with him, to be accepted formally as his fiance...

Seeing this, Sumitra smiled…. 'Arre…hum to bhool gaye the… ek minute hum abhi aate hain' (Oh.. I totally forgot.. one minute… I'll just be back)

Rani, puzzled, watched as her mother went back to her room. Then she remembered… there, on the bed, was the outfit that Yudi gave. Rani was too shy to tell Amma, and was hoping to wear it later without her mother knowing. Taking care not to crease it once, she placed the outfit in her cupboard just as Sumitra returned.

'Yeh lo..tumhari sagai ke liye ek chota sa taufa hamari taraf se…' (Here.. it's a little present from me on your engagement)

Rani took the suit into her hands. Looking at it, she recognized the green sari, with its plain thread embroidery, and minimal beading from the old photos. It was her mothers engagement sari…one that she always used to long to try on as a child…. Rani looked again at her mother, who was smiling in a strange way, with a worried expression.

'Tum is sari aaj raat hi pehno gi ..theek hai?' (You wear this tonight.. ok?)

Rani looked again at her mother, slightly distressed, unable to work out how to explain to her mother. 'Ji woh….'(Erm…)

'Woh… kya Rani? Jaldi batado humein bahut saara kaam hai…'(Erm..what Rani? Tell me quickly.. I have a lot of work!)

'Amma… hum...' (Amma..I…)

'Kya hua.. tumhe yeh sari pasand nahi hai..' (Whats the matter? You don't like this sari??) Sumitra smiled looking at Rani who was becoming frustrated now, but as usual, trying to hide this.

'Nahin amma… yeh baat nahi hai.. lekin..' (No amma… nothing like that… but)

'Lekin Kunwarji chahte ke tum oos ki pasand ke kapde pehnoo.. yeh baat hai na??' (But Kunwarji wishes that you wear clothes of his choice tonight..thats whats the matter?)

Sumitra laughed at her daughters eyes widen with surprise at her words… she could amost see the cogs in Ranis mind wondering how she knew. Rani, lowered her eyes, and nodded, blushing furiously.

'Bas itni si baat? Aur tum apni amma se kehne se sharmaa rahi hoon? Are… tum abhi abhi sharmaane lagi hai.. shaadi ke baad kya hoga!' (Such a small matter? And you are embarrassed to say so to your mother…Arre… you've started getting shy already…. What will happen after marriage!!)

Rani, true to her own form, blushed even more and turned away so her mother couldn't see her smiling shyly…..

'Chaliye..dekhaye …aaj raat kunwarji ne kya choon liya aap ke liye….' (Come.. show me then.. what kunwarji has chosen for you for tonight)

Nodding, Rani went to her outfit and took out the lehnga.

Sumitra sat on the bed, as Rani laid it out on display on the bed. Her mother was amazed.. and couldn't hold in her disbelief… Rani smiles as she saw her mothers expression of shock. Sumitra was scared to touch the outfit… it seemed such an expensive, precious and delicate thing..exactly like its owner. Indeed, it was the most beautiful lehnga that she had ever seen, like something a true pari or princess would wear…it was only then that it hit sumitra that….her daughter..her gudiya Rani… would be royalty!!!!! Tears of happiness could no longer brim at the corners of her eyes, and began flowing freely down her cheeks……

'Aaj meri Rani such much hone wali Rani ban ne jaa rahi hoon…maine kabhi sapno mein bhi nahi socha ke aisa kuch ho saktha hain humare bitiya ke saath… aaj agar aapke papa hote…tho woh aaj bahut khush hota…..tujh pe naaz hota Rani…' (Today my Rani, is really going to become a future queen! I'd never even dreamed that such a thing could happen with my daughter…. Today.. if your papa was here.. he'd be very happy…and so proud of you…'

Smiling through tears, she hugged Rani again…

'Theek hai.. tum aaj ye pehno gi..lekin apne kunwarji se keh do na ke shaadi ki joda.. humare pasand ki hogi……lekin shaiyyad inta sunder nahi hoga,,' (Ok..you will wear this today.. but tell your kunwarji that youe wedding outfit will be of our choice…though it may not be so beautiful…)

'Amma.. aapki pasand ki joda.. humari zindagi ki sabse sunder taufa hoga…. Aap aisa mat kaiyega….chaliye..hum aapki madat kar dethe hain…' (Amma… your choice of outfit.. will be the most beautiful gift of my life. Please… don't say such things…come on.. I will help you…)

Sumitra cupped Ranis cheek with her right hand… and looked into her daughters eyes…

'Nahi Rani… kaam hum kar lenge…. Mujhe pata hai.. ke tum Kunwarji se milna chahti hoon..sagai se pehla.. jao… unse milo…aur taufa ke liye Yudhistir beta ko dhanyavaad keh do na…' (No rani.. I will do the work… I know.. you want to meet Kunwarji before the engagement.. do.. meet him.. and think him for your gift)

Rani, embarrassed, could only manage a nod. She was thankful to her mother though, to be able to understand her so well that she didn't have to say such a thing herself…

As her mother left, Rani began to feel slightly mischevious.. .she knew that Yudi was probably having a nap before the long evening.. and knew she could use this to her advantage.. in order to surprise him again… smiling.. She walked over to her cupboard again.. as she had done so the night before.. And began looking……..

Half an hour later, in his room Yudi began to stir…he had just had the most beautiful dream..where Rani was in his room, coming to see him before the party. His eyes, stil out of focus, saw the brief outline of a girl…. Mopping the floor….

He got up off of his bed…only looking at this girl with the plaited hair…

'Suniye'(Listen…)

She turned around and looked at him with her large innocent eyes, and yudi instantly fell into them… Rani smiled back at him as he continued to stare at her in amazement.

All of a sudden, their eyelock was ended abruptly by a knock at the door. Tearing his eyes away from her, yawning and rubbing his eyes, Yudi opened it to find a servant there with his outfit for the evening….Thanking him, he took the outfit and laid it on his bed. He looked back at her… wondering why she now looked different..

'Rani..'

The plaited head turned around to look at him and Yudi was shocked. For looking back at him was a girl,…dressed in Ranis old servant attire….

'Rani nahi Kunwarji.. Shivangi… kuch kaam tha…??' (Not Rani Kunwerji.. Shivangi.. did you have some work for me?)

'Ji.. kuch nahi.. aap ja sakti hain…'(Oh.. nothing.. you can go)

'Theek hai Kunwarji.. Pranam..'(Ok kunwerji.. Pranam)

Yudi, laughed to himself at his own madness. He kept seeing Rani everywhere.. in everything… He decided to get some fresh air.. so went onto the balcony. He stood there for a few moments watching the band set up for the party which was now in just over an hours time..Remembering this, Yudi went inside to get dressed. He was heading straight to his bathroom when he heard a voice…..

'Kunwer Ji….?'

Shocked at hearing this familiar voice, Yudi spun round…….

Rani, who was sitting on the end of his bed, got up as Yudi began to walk towards her….

'Rani.. aap… yahaan? Kahi yeh sapna tho nahi hain…' (Rani.. you're here? This isn't a dream is it…)

Those words and the cute confused expression on Yudi's face made Rani fall in love with him all over again. He was like a little child, not knowing what to believe! Rani took hold of his hand and sat him down next to her….

'Kabhi Kabhi sapne sach hote hain Kunwarji…..Jaise ki.. aaj raat mera bachpan ka sapna pura hone jaa raha hai.. aap se sagai karne se….' (Sometimes dreams come true Kunwerji.. Just like.. Tonight my childhood dream is going to come true.. by getting engaged to you)

At hearing this, Yudi smiled and stroked Rani's cheek affectionately. He was still confused about one thing though….

'Humne aap ko apne sapne mein dekha… aur phir, jab hum jag rahe the, humne aapko, humare kamre mein safai karte huwe dekha.. aur phir.. jab humne doosri baar dekha.. tho who koi aur ladki thi..yeh tho bahut ajeeb baat hai' (I saw you in my dreams.. and then.. when I was waking up, I saw saw you in my room cleaning., and then, when I looked again.. it was another girl… that's strange…)

'Ajeeb? Yeh tho aap ke liye surprise tha.. woh hum hi thi pehli baar…aur phir humne ek naukrani ko yahaa laye kaam karne ke liye, thaaki aap yeh sochenge ke aap go ghalat faimi hui hai…aur phir.. jab aap mujhe dekh pate, tho aap ke liye bahut bada surprise hota…' (Strange? This was a surprise for you.. it was me the first time.. and then I brought a servant here to do work.. so that you would think you had a misunderstanding.. and so that when you saw me, it would be a big surprise…)

'Achcha…tho yeh baat thi…lekin.. aap is waqt yahaa? Sagai ke liye thayyar nahi hongi?' (Oh.. so that's what happened! But..you're here? Now? Wont you get ready for the engagement party?)

Rani smiled at his restlessness. 'Aap fikker mat kijiye.. hum sirf ek baat kehne ke liye yahaa aayi hoon.. aur phir hum jaa kar thaiyyar hote hai…' (Don't worry.. I just came here to say one thing and then I will go and get dressed..)

'Kaiyye.. kya baat hai??' (Tell me, whats the matter?)

Yudi looked at Rani, and saw that she was starting to feel shy all of a sudden. Smiling, he decided to be mischevious and have a little fun with her..

'Ji hum aapse dhanyavaad kehne ke liye yaha aayi…'(I came to say thankyou..)

Yudi pulled a funny expression and helf his hand to his ear, as if trying to listen..

'Ji.. aap .. kya keh rahe hain…kuch sunai nahi deta' (What are you saying.. I cant hear anything.)

Rani repeated her words again, but kunwerji still couldn't hear! Getting frustrated, she moved close to him and said it directly in his ear. Yudi used this closeness to bring himself closer to her.. as she spoke into his ear, he turned his head and kissed her on her left cheek. Rani stopped mid sentence…and Yudi saw her eyes widen with shock! Yet, neither of them moved… the feeling of being so close to another was soothing, a feeling which both of them didn't wish to end…he didnt move his lips from her cheek, but moved them upwards slightly and kissed her again… Rani smiled shyly and tried to look away. Yudi only used this further, kissing her lightly on the neck, sending somersaults through her stomach. She turned to face him..and at once the sound of Yudi's phone interrupted their moment of intimacy… Yudi looked away from her and answered his phone. It was saksham…asking him questions on preparations for the sagai…

Yudi, after briefly speaking to him, hung up the phone and turned back, to find that Rani was gone! He shook his head, thinking he was hallucinating again!!! He got up too get dressed, ad went to pick up the clothes he was to wear from the bed. As he did, he saw something glimmering in the light. Smiling, he picked off one of Rani's payal from his bed… and kissing it lightly..he put it in his pocket and went to get dressed……….

someraults? Yep, absolutely!
