Hello everyone! đ¤ Here's the second chapter!
So I'm just gonna clear some things out, Zoya doesn't find out about Rashid being Dilshad's husband here. Because, well while Asad was yelling his head off at Zoe, Rashid quickly visited Dilshad and slipped away. Now heading back to the story, read on!
The Heart and the Mind
Chapter Two: Forgiveness Divine
Asad walked into his room, clutching his forehead in confusion. He lied down on his bed and closed his eyes, trying to figure out a way to apologize to Zoya. He knew that if he simply tried to talk to her, she wouldn't give him a chance to speak!
That's it! Don't speak to her! Write her a note!
His mind had somehow managed to unite with his heart and thus given him this idea. He sprang up from his bed and frantically began searching for a pen and paper.
Asad was sitting at his desk in the corner of his room, surrounded by crumpled paper and frustrated to the core, when he heard it.
A gentle, tinkling melody floated in through the huge, half-moon-shaped window that revealed the mini-garden outside his room. He cautiously got up and went closer to the window in curiosity.
What he saw made his heart clench miserably. Zoya Farooqui was holding a golden orb, that seemed to be a music box, which explained the melody. But the tune was the last thing on Asad's mind. She was crying uncontrollably. Asad didn't know why, but seeing her cry made him feel like he was the saddest person on earth. He didn't like seeing her cry, even when he had seen her for the first time at the Dargah.
Masha-Allah she looked beautiful. As she does now!
His heart decided to chime in. He had the sudden urge to run over to her, wipe those crystal tears and apologize. He shoved the pen and paper away and started making his way towards the mini-garden.
And for the first time, he noticed, Asad Ahmed Khan had listened to his heart.
He walked up behind Zoya and placed a hesitant hand on her shoulder. She was obviously surprised and quickly stood up, facing a nervous Asad.
"A-aap? What do you want Mr. Khan?" Zoya asked, in a voice colder than she wanted it to be.
"I- woh actually..."
"Mr. Khan, if you're here to tell me off again, please LEAVE. I've already been insulted by you to the max..." she continued rambling on and on and on.
"I'm sorry."
"No no Mr. Khan, I don't want to hear any- wait what? What did you say?"
"I-I'm sorry. For...um for r-raising my hand at you. I...I really am sorry Zoya" unexpectedly, for Zoya, he took her in his arms into a bone-crushing hug.
Zoya was extremely confused. First, ASAD AHMED KHAN had apologized to her. Second, the same person was now hugging her with so much care, and had called her by her name! For the second time, she recalled.
Allah Miya! What in the world is going on?
"M-Mr Khan-" Zoya breathed out, feeling his warm breath fanning her neck.
Asad broke out of the hug and held her by the shoulders, Zoya winced, the bruises were acting up under his hands. Asad quickly withdrew his hands and looked deep into Zoya's dark brown orbs that always mesmerized him.
"Is it...is it that bad?" he asked, his voice lined with guilt.
"It's okay Mr. Khan, I've been applying some ointment, it should be better in a few days..."
"Are you sure you don't need a doctor, Miss Farooqui?" Asad asked, eyeing the way she was holding on to one of her shoulders which was paining.
"Allah Miya, what's wrong with you Mr. Khan? I told you I don't need anything! Miss Farooqui khud ka khayal rakh sakti hai!" she said trying to assure him.
"Are you really really sure?" Asad asked, just to tease her a bit.
"YES MR KHAN!- Ouch!" the cut was stinging again, badly. Asad rushed towards her aid.
"Miss Farooqui! You just told me you don't need a doctor, but seeing your condi-"
"Mr. Khan. I. Am. FINE." Zoya said irritably. This new, suddenly caring but too caring Asad Ahmed Khan was getting on her nerves!
"Okay. But if it hurts again, you tell me."
"Yes, FINE!" Zoya mumbled rolling her eyes. Asad went inside, smiling to himself and leaving Zoya overly irritated and confused about what had just transpired.
*********
The next morning...
Dilshad and Najma were gaping at Asad with their eyes as wide as saucers. Asad was in a happy mood, his mind was going over last night's happenings over and over again! She'd forgiven him. So easily. That innocent soul of her's would shine through her eyes when he looked into them. Somehow when he'd hugged her, he felt a pull towards her that he had never experienced before. He felt like never letting her go.
With that thought, Asad's mood dampened.
Geez, Asad! "Never letting her go"? Where did THAT come from? No...she's a guest. Yes, a guest. And that's all she'll ever be.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the doorknob of Zoya's room click.
Weird, she usually isn't up so early...
His breath was caught in his throat as he saw Zoya casually stroll out of her room. Her hair was damp and was sticking to her rosy cheeks as she tried to dry them while speaking on her phone simultaneously. Asad rolled his eyes at her stubbornness and proceeded towards her to see if he could help (the heart taking over again, of course). Another action that caused Najma to giggle and Dilshad's eyes to dart between Asad and Zoya. But what he heard made him stop in his tracks.
"Api please! How many times have I told you to NOT fix my wedding? I'm not ready for marriage yet, please understand!" Zoya pleaded, causing her Api to lose her cool on the other side of the world.
Asad was in a standstill. He couldn't even see Zoya with another man! Let alone be married to one!
What the hell's wrong with you Asad? She. Is. A. Guest! She can do whatever the hell she wants! Why are you so sensitive about it?!
And again, as per usual, Asad listened to his mind and turned on his heels to go back to the dining table. Causing Najma and Dilshad to sigh in disappointment.
"Good morning Mr. Khan!" Zoya chimed, Asad smiled internally.
"Good morning Miss Farooqui." he greeted sipping his black coffee. Zoya beamed at him.
"M-Miss Farooqui, how...how is your arm now?" Asad nervously inquired, in case she was hurting.
"Oh, it's fine Mr. Khan! I'm going to be running a few errands later today!" Zoya said, full of hope and wishing that she'll find some more clues about her father.
"Do you need me?"
"Excuse me?!" Zoya said flabbergasted, making Dilshad snicker.
Asad pressed the bridge of his nose and added, "I mean, do you need me to come along? In case you want help."
"No it's fine Mr. Khan, I can go by myself."
"Okay, but I still think you should visit the doctor, Miss Farooqui!"
Allah Miya what's WRONG with this man?! Can't he understand what he's been told?
"Mr. Khan, I've been telling you since yesterday! I don't need a doctor!"
'But what if it's bleeding internally Miss Farooqui? Bruises are sensitive!"
"Will you stop showing all this care for me?! Because for all I know you might be doing this just because you're guilty!" Zoya unknowingly shrieked.
The sentence left Asad stunned and silent. But Dilshad was adamant to know everything.
"Guilty? Guilty for what Asad?" Dilshad interrogated, her voice sharp as a knife.
"Kuch nahi Phoopi. I-I'm sorry, woh, mooh se nikal gaya... anyways I have to leave, I'll be back by evening." Saying this Zoya quickly headed out the door, leaving Dilshad to glare at Asad.
"Asad, I want to know what happened," Dilshad questioned sternly
"Ammi...I-I slapped her Ammi." Asad broke down in regret.
"WHAT?! Asad why? What made you do such a thing? You..."
"I'm sorry Ammi, I'm so, so sorry." Assad's sadness and regret were getting the best of him, his body racked with sobs.
Dilshad slowly placed a gentle hand upon his head.
"Asad, don't apologize to me, apologize to Zoya!"
"I did Ammi! Last night-"
"I know you apologized Asad! But it's going to take time for her to forgive you! She's been hurt more than she shows. Just because she's back to her chirpy self doesn't mean she's not hurting on the inside."
Asad was listening silently and nodding, tears forming in his eyes as Zoya's corpse flashed before his eyes. And that was the moment Dilshad realized, her son was in love.
"Asad, do you understand what I'm saying?"
"Yes, Ammi." His voice was breaking.
"Asad, if you want her to truly forgive you, for once you'll have to voice everything in your heart. You understand?"
Asad nodded.
I will Ammi. Anything for my Zoya's forgiveness.
Wait...MY Zoya? What in the-
Ding-dong!
The doorbell rang. Asad quickly got up and opened the door.
"Arre tum?!"
"Assalam-Walaikum Jammy!"

Hellooooo! Hope you all enjoyed the previous chapter! Here's the 3rd chapter of my story! Also, sorry if the font size keeps changing over the chapters. I can't figure out how to keep one common size! If anyone has any tips 'n' tricks about this can you please please please tell me??
Note: This one will be switching POVs.
The Heart And The Mind
Chapter Three: The Longing
Zoya's POV
It's been three days since that 'Tanu' arrived. The three WORST days of my LIFE.
First, she arrives and Jahapana completely forgets about my existence.
Second, whenever he does acknowledge my existence, is when I make a small mistake. That 'small mistake' apparently triggers him so much it's like the world has ended because of me!
And third, even Phoopi and Najma were engrossed in their perfect 'Tanu'. But their level of 'engrossment' is nowhere near as Mr. Khan's! If she was a celebrity, I say he'd be her biggest fan! Two-faced jerk.
God damn it I'm late for my daily 'errand' that doesn't exist!
Third-person POV
Zoya quickly finished her breakfast and scurried away before Asad even came out of his room. She needed to get out of the house before 'Tanu' and Asad start their boring rants about tameez and tehzeeb.
Dilshad noticed there was something odd about Zoya's behavior ever since Tanveer had arrived. She was getting restless every morning as if she had to leave before Asad came out. Dilshad decided to make sure if everything is okay and proceeded towards Zoya's room.
Zoya was sitting with her back towards the door and talking to her Api with headphones on. Dilshad stepped inside Zoya's room and opened her mouth to call out Zoya's name but Zoya said to her Api,
"Yes! Don't worry Api, I've already booked the tickets. I'll be coming back at the end of this week. Phoopi was sick, so I decided to stay here until she got better."
Her Api nodded on the other side.
"Okay! Bye Api!" Zoya snapped her iPad shut and turned around to find a tear-faced Dilshad standing at her door!
"Ph-Phoopi? Kya hua, why are you crying Phoopi?!" She sprang up from her bed and slowly got Dilshad to sit down.
"Phoopi! Phoopi talk to me what happened?"
"Tum...ja rahi ho Zoya?"
Zoya's eyes widened. Realization dawned upon her, and she mentally kicked herself.
Well shit.
"Haan. Mujhe... mujhe jaana padega Phoopi. My Visa is expiring and-and after what he did to me I-"
"Who?" Dilshad asked, very well knowing 'who', but wanting to hear Zoya's side of the story. After all, she was like a daughter to her.
Zoya's eyes widened in realization.
"Oh um, no one, it's nothing..."
"Zoya, it didn't sound like 'nothing' when you said it." Dilshad put a comforting arm around her shoulder.
"Phoopi it's...it's just that Mr. Khan, he's always insulting me whenever he gets the chance. A-always blames it on my parents and the night when you- he- he slapped me...I'm sorry Phoopi but I just can't take it anymore!" Zoya finally broke down, her head on Dilshad's lap. Dilshad stroked her head soothingly.
"Zoya, I'm sorry."
Zoya looked towards Dilshad, bewildered.
"Phoopi, why are you saying sorry?"
"I'm sorry on Asad's behalf. I know what he did to you on that horrible night and I'm truly ashamed of that moment. He never should have treated you that way..."
Zoya couldn't place her words, so she just closed her eyes, letting the tears fall.
Dilshad continued, cupping Zoya's face gently, "I now realize how gravely Asad's behavior has hurt you. But I'm afraid, he hasn't realized it just yet. He told me, he's deeply sorry about hurting you, truth be told, he even cried!"
Zoya's POV
He...he cried?! Allah miyah, Jahapana has feelings!? Wait, why am I so happy about this? Shouldn't I like, not care? I don't know what the hell is going on with me these days...
"Phoopi, are you pulling my leg, or did he actually cry?" I asked desperately trying to lighten the mood.
Phoopi chuckled sadly and to my surprise, she said, "Haan Zoya, he cried. He cares about you, you know?"
I felt my heart flutter at that statement.
"Phoopi, don't you think I was being too stubborn? Not forgiving him that easily?"
Phoopi raised a brow, "Was stubborn? Does that mean you've forgiven him? Hmm?"
"Phoopi, he did apologize last night. Well, it was kinda awkward because out of nowhere he hugged me!"
Phoopi's mouth dropped open and her eyes were almost popping out of their sockets!
"So you're telling me," Phoopi paused, a hint of victory was shining in her eyes, "that my son, Asad Ahmed Khan. Hugged you?!"
I nodded vigorously. The memories of last night flooded in. I felt my cheeks getting warmer, and noticed Phoopi looking at me cheekily.
I had forgotten how awesome this woman is! She always knew what was going on in my mind. She kept a warm hand on my left shoulder and looked at me with pure admiration.
"Zoya, since you've forgiven him in your heart and there are no misunderstandings, I think we can manage while you visit your Api and Jeeju!"
"REALLY?" I squealed. Phoopi nodded and got up from my bed.
"Just, in some twisted way of yours, let Asad know of your forgiveness." She beamed at me positively.
"Chalo, let's have lunch."
With that, she left my room. I was left sitting there thinking about whether or not to go. Now that everything was okay, I was having second thoughts!
That's it. I'm not going. But this is the last time I'm changing my mind.
That evening (third-person POV)
"Good evening Phoopi!" Came a voice from the guest room as Asad entered the house. Unknown to him, that tinkling voice was the highlight of his day!
"Phoopi, I'll help you in a minute, I just have to manage the tickets now that I've decided."
Decided? Decided what? Which tickets is she talking about? Ya Allah is she...?
Asad's mind was whooshing around the thoughts of Zoya leaving.
She can't be leaving. No. Zoya can't just leave...Ammi needs her. Najma needs her...I-
"Assalam-alaikum Jammy! How was work?" Tanveer had seen Asad's expressions and decided to interrupt his thoughts.
For the first time, Asad was irritated by Tanveer's interference.
"It was as usual Tanu." Asad emphasized 'Tanu', in hope of irking Zoya. Yes, he knew she was jealous. He had noticed it from the first day itself! She had been glaring at him every time he'd called Tanveer 'Tanu'. It amused him to the max! He would smirk at Zoya (unknowingly to her of course) every time she showed a hint of jealousy. And now she wasn't even acknowledging his presence! And what tickets?!
"A-Ammi, what's going on? What was Zo- Miss Farooqui saying about tickets?"
"Oh Asad beta, you're home already? Zoya was talking about her tickets to New York."
Asad's heart sank miserably. She was going back?
Dilshad saw Asad's face fall and smirked at her son's cuteness. She quickly added, "She was going to go back, but now she's canceling them!"
Asad's face instantly lit up. Dilshad smiled to herself.
Allah, kya karoon in dono ka!
Zoya was canceling her tickets to New York on her iPad when she heard a familiar knock on the door. She smiled to herself.
"Come in!"
Asad peeked in first, and then slowly let himself in
"M-Miss Farooqui, how are your uh...your bruises?" He cringed at the sentence, they were bruises he had left on her.
"They're healing Mr. Khan. By the way, why are you here? Is Phoopi calling me?" Zoya asked him coldly.
"Woh mein... actually-"
"Allah Miya what's wrong with you Mr. Khan! Aap ab bhi 'voh' aur 'actually' pe atak rahe hein?"
"Yes, is that a problem Miss Farooqui?" Asad smirked.
Zoya gaped at him.
"Mr. Khan, if you're here for something important please make it quick!"
"Yes, actually, Ammi told me that you were leaving..."
"What? No! I'm not leaving, I was going to, but I changed my mind." Zoya looked hopefully towards Asad, looking for a reaction.
"So... you're not leaving?"
"No, I'm not. Why, do you want me to leave?" Zoya asked rhetorically.
"Ye- I mean, I was just here to...to check if you need anything. And now you've shown me that you don't. So bye." Asad walked out of her room clutching the bridge of his nose, oblivious to the fact that his little stammer on saying "yes" was about to change his life drastically.
Precap: "Mat jao Zoya"
Hope you guys liked it! I think this one was a little shorter...but stay tuned for more! And yeah, please comment and let me know if you liked it!đ
