While recounting his dukh bhari kahani to Mahira, Amaad didn't seem all that dukhi to me. Even the BG score wasn't all that serious. I don't know why I've been under the impression that Afreen died. Things can never be that easy can they? She's probably waiting in the wings to swoop in and create some drama right when she is not needed.
Recipe: Afreen-Azaad-Amaad- stew of resentment:
Ingredient 1 : Azaad.
He is very reserved and keeps everything bottled up. Heavily season that with the fact that he is a supernatural creature with crazy blood lust, things are not looking so good for him on the relationship front.
Ingredient 2: Amaad.
He is more outgoing of the pair. Unappreciated and in the shadow of his big brother. Resentment constantly bubbling under the surface. Ammi loves Azaad more. Azaad gets everything he wants. When he wants something he has learnt not to ask and wait patiently, he goes and takes it unabashedly.
Ingredient 3: Afreen.
She caught Azaads attention precisely for being so different from him. He watched from afar , this- according to him at least- delicate, innocent, can do no wrong-paragon of femininity, an ultimately fell in "love" with her. Really, if he's watching from afar how well can he know her?
Amaad on the other hand is all charm and mischievous smiles right from day one. What is one to do under such an onslaught of attention? She begins to soften towards him.
Stir thoroughly and bring to boil:
Azaad broods silently while taking all this in. Amad ke samne sab ladkiyon ka dimag kharab kyun ho jata hai? He is well aware of Amaads attitude toward women and cannot take his little brothers supposed affections seriously. He's trying to drop hints for Afreen.
Amaad is lavishing attention on Afreen. He's being quite sincere, no girls on the side, until one fateful day there is an accidental relapse of his casanova persona. Really, what were those girls doing in my room? Afreen catches him and who is the ready shoulder to cry on? You guessed it. Azaad. Amad jo bolta hai woh karta nahi aur jo karta hai woh bolta nahi.
Amaad thinks Azaad set him up for a fall. Begins to wonder if Azaad has feelings for Afreen. The old resentment toward big brother rears its ugly head. How dare he steal my love? (This is love. Right?)
Azaad is finally proven right when it comes to his brother. The fair Afreen deserves someone better. It's on the tip of his tongue to tell her her loves her. But he holds back and reminds himself again, She deserves someone better. Not me. She looks so damned heart broken. Could she ever love me?. Vexation-Exasperation-Resentment. But I saw her first.Loved her first.
After simmering, leave to cool:
Afreen leaves. In her absence both the brothers have placed her on a pedestal. Both assuming the other stole the love of their life.
To garnish-Add Plot Twist at own discretion:
Afreen is a scheming, conniving, vindictive, villainous little... witch, who is another player in the black magic world and had her own plans for gaining power.
I can imagine Mahira, "Bewakuf bana ke gayi woh aap dono ko". No points for guessing whose fantasy bubble is popped first (Amad).
