When the leap was announced with KV as the male lead, I was happy. I was waiting to see him on a daily soap, after being bowled over by his portrayal of Viraj. I'm not a fan of negativity but KV as Viraj, made evil enchanting!
Then came Ahil, the work hard, play harder poor rich Nawab, who fought his inner demons with drinks & women. He also played a harassed parent to his warring sisters, all the while manipulated remotely by his wicked step- Mom& her bumbling cohort. He had an office. He interacted frequently with his step-brother and his loyal shemale servant. He also had a grand-mother who was locked up for decades.
Then he fell in love with a certain Dhabhewali, who is a victim of his step-Mom & she got them married. He is still the hero, who is also, a grandson, brother, Boss, businessman.
Then, he had a big Eid celebration which brought her Mom's murderous ex-souten to his mansion and his family vanished. Slowly his wife's family took over and he became just her husband. Then he became an eye-candy who just romanced the heroine with unbuttoned shirt.
Then, his wife's look-alike sister joined forces with his Mom's personal hit-woman and locked up his wife. At this point he has lost not just his heart, but his head and became yet another soap hero on Zee, who can't tell his wife from another like her. As he adjusts to her weird behaviour, while his wife rots in captivity, he emerges as the air-head,who is setting himself for the slaughter cheerfully.
Slowly, as Ahil disintegrates into yet another stupid soap hero, caught between look-alikes and surrounded by scheming women and totally clueless about the circus that's going on around him, I feel sad for the actor and the character he played with conviction in the beginning.
Part of me hopes he might get to play the passionate lover he was promised, I was sold, but then, part of me wonders would he ever get to do that?
What do you think of Ahil/Kv's journey so far?
