Interesting discussion. I haven't followed the whole Rahat-Haya-Faiz storyline. But in between fast forwarding and watching I got the gist.
The puzzling thing about relationships in tv shows is you can't decide if the script writers adopt a particular story line just to increase the drama quotient temporarily or if the particular story line is just another in the several preplanned intricate, mind boggling and unbelievable story lines or if this happened just bcos the script writer couldn't think outside of the stale scenarios already tried out in various shows. While watching these shows I often wonder how lightly they treat relationships especially marital. You have the main leads marrying after defying the whole world, marrying against convention and what not, only to find some stupid comment or person starting a misunderstanding so huge that all their 'I will die for you' love has fled through the back door. So after watching several of these shows, I have given up thinking things will be any better. But I digress.
Onto Faiz-Haya-Rahat. I felt for Haya when she lamented being deaf and dumb bcos she couldn't understand she was to marry Faiz and not Rahat. After dreaming of becoming Rahat's bride, to find herself as Faiz's would have been a shock for the poor girl. In top of that, Dilshaad's condition was also causing her distress. On one side you have Haya shocked at marrying the marrying the wrong man and at the other side you have Faiz elated at marrying his love. The rest of the scenes shows Haya not ready to move forward in their relationship, a understanding and at times bewildered Faiz giving her time and space she needs. Haya, like a typical serial character, either not deciding or unable to decide what she wants. I felt for Faiz too when he puzzlingly asks Haya why she's rejecting him when she was happy to marry him. Both their sorrows caused by miscommunication. Rahat, inspite of (or bcos) loving Haya sacrificed his love thinking Haya loved Faiz. Who would want to marry a recluse widower when there are robust young men around? Poor deluded soul! Rahat-Haya was different in the sense that they couldn't communicate like ordinary people. But, from what I saw, they could understand each other. Rahat, like any man was clueless about Haya loving him. I think the poor guy would have been shocked if he realised she loved him. Anyways, he got Haya married to Faiz shattering both their dreams.
Faiz was shown as a loving husband In The beginning. He gave her space, gave her time. Suddenly everything was too much for him. And talak, talak, talak. The question remains was he so shallow? He loved and married her knowing her limitations. Was his love so shallow that he was easily swayed and played on by his colleagues and poopi? Did the talak take place to stretch the story line? To facilitate Rahat-Haya reunion? For Faiz to shout surprise once it happens? Or to show their remarriage later in the track after her marrying and divorcing Rahat? As to the TM's question if marriage should be treated lightly? The answer is no in real life. But it always is in reel life. I have seen shows the male lead had seven women after him. It ran for 5 years or so. Everytime you see him, he will have a different wife.
Miscommunications are almost always the tools CVs employ to create misunderstanding. Couples, even if their marriage is arranged, talks a lot. They talk about what's happening around them, in their families and also mundane things. Couples in shows seldom do anything except fall in each other arms or free their dupattas from the watch of the hero or have an hour long eyelock even after marriage. Unrealistic!
