Chapter 26 EngagementThere was a knock on the door of Aahil and Sanam's room. Aahil immediately woke up to the sound of the knock. He got out of bed, annoyed, and went to the door, opening it. It was Latif. "Yes?" Aahil asked.
"You and Sanam need to get up now."
"Now? Its like...seven in the morning."
"But we have a lot to do! Engagement is today."
"So?"
"So I need you and Sanam to try on your outfits for the occasion and pick out your engagement rings. And you have to meet all the guests. Plus, we have decorating to do. I have catering to get done and-"
"Okay I get it! We're coming!"
"Good. See you in the lobby."
Latif left and Aahil closed the door. Aahil took a glass of water and splashed water onto Sanam's face. She immediately woke up and asked, "What?!"
"Latif needs us to come down."
"Why?"
"Engagement preparations."
"Hayye Allah! Its so early!"
Sanam got out of bed and she went to the bathroom to freshen up and change. After which, Aahil followed. When both were ready, they went downstairs to the lobby where many workers were setting up decorations in the house. "Make sure you hang the glass chandelier!" Latif ordered one of the workers. Latif turned around to see Aahil and Sanam come. Rehan came as well.
"Good you all are here. Rehan...take Sanam to the kitchen and go eat breakfast." Latif said. Rehan nodded and Sanam followed Rehan to the kitchen.
"What do you need me for?" Aahil asked.
"To select the ring for Sanam. Once she comes back, she'll select yours."
Latif called a jeweler who showed a box that had a collection of several different rings. Aahil looked at all the rings and his eyes were drawn to a simple silver one with studding on it. He took the ring out and held it. "You like that one?" Latif asked Aahil.
"I like this one. Simple is nice." Aahil said, intrigued by the ring's design.
"Okay. I'll take this one," Latif told the jeweler. "Aahil, you go to the living room. There are a few sherwanis I laid out for you. You take a look and select one to wear today."
Aahil nodded and headed to the living room. Sanam had just entered the lobby and Latif began showing the set of rings for Sanam to choose for Aahil. Sanam finalized on one and then headed to the living room as instructed by Latif, with Latif coming with her.
Sanam saw several outfits laid on the table. Aahil was going through the sherwanis he had. "Hayye Allah! What beautiful dresses!" Sanam exclaimed.
"I know. Pick one to wear for tonight." Latif said. Sanam went through the selection. As she went through them, one of the outfits, a lime green saree with gold embroidery and matching blouse caught her eye. She picked it up. "I like this." Sanam and Aahil said in unison. The two looked at each other. Latif noticed Aahil picked out a gold sherwani. "Wow! You both have matching outfits! How cute!" Latif exclaimed. Sanam and Aahil began to blush. "Aahil...you go change. Sanam, I'll help you get ready." Latif said.
After a few hours, Aahil and Sanam were ready for the engagement. Guests began to arrive inside the house, greeting Latif and Rehan. Aahil had just arrived downstairs, dressed in his gold sherwani with matching gold shoes. Zayn and Aaliyah approached Aahil. "Hey Aahil!" Zayn greeted.
"Hi Zayn. Glad you two could come." Aahil said.
"Of course! We couldn't miss out on this prem kahani!" Zayn exclaimed.
"Where's Sanam?" Aaliyah asked.
"She's upstairs. She's still getting ready." Aahil said.
"I'll go get her." Aaliyah said.
Aaliyah headed upstairs. As guests were coming in, Haider, Humeira and Hurya arrived as well. "So Sanam will be the one getting married." Haider said.
"Where is she, ammi?! I want to see my cousin!" Hurya exclaimed.
"Wait, beta. Sanam doesn't even know about us yet." Humeira said.
Just then, Sanam arrived down the stairs with Aaliyah. All the guests and Aahil turned to her. Sanam's beauty caught Aahil's eyes. She wore the lime green saree with the yellow blouse and golden embroidery. Her hair was let out and straight. She wore dangling earrings with a matching gold necklace. She went downstairs with Aaliyah as Aahil looked at Sanam, entranced by her beauty.
She smiled as she came down and all the guests looked at her with joy.
"Badi soni dulhan hai yeh." Aaliyah smiled at Sanam.
"Thank you, Aaliyah." Sanam said.
Haider and Humeira became nostalgic, seeing Sanam. She is just like her mom! Her face...everything reminds me of my little Chutki! Haider thought to himself. Hayye Allah! She's just as beautiful as Zoya was! Humeira thought to herself.
Latif took a micophone and annouced, "Thank you all for coming for this beautiful ceremony! I feel so happy...that we will be properly uniting this lovely couple! So...let the engagement begin!" The guests clapped. "Hey Asma! Bring the ring for Aahil!" Latif called out. Rehan gave a surprised face. He turned around to see Asma come, holding the box with the ring inside. Rehan was stunned by her beauty, as she wore a blue and green ghagra choli with silver embroidery. Asma smiled at Sanam as she handed the box to Aahil. Now this engagement! I can't believe were actually doing this! I hope he didn't pick something I didn't like! Sanam thought to herself. Aahil took the ring out of the box. Sanam saw it and was stunned. Aahil took Sanam's hand and began to put the ring on her finger. After he did so, everyone clapped. I don't believe it! How did he know...that I would like something like this! Even abbu needed my help when selecting jewelry! But him...he just managed to figure out what would suit me just like that! How?
Who knows whether she liked it or not. All I know is...she probably had no idea about my taste, Aahil thought to himself. Rehan handed the next box to Sanam. Sanam opened it, revealing Aahil's ring. Aahil gave a surprised face upon seeing. It was a silver ring with a simple diamond stud in a crest shape on it. Sanam took Aahil's hand and placed the ring on his finger. The guests clapped once again. Even she picked something simple for me! How would she know...that I like simple ones? Aahil asked himself. Aahil and Sanam looked at each other, deeply in ones eyes. I can feel it...I can feel as if...as if Aahil knows me more than I may have thought. Who knew...the person I considered a beast to begin with...knows me more than anyone else for something so small, Sanam thought to herself.
The girl who I thought was just a mere beauty...has shown she knows me better than myself. Unbelievable, Aahil thought to himself.
