Chapter 3 Mirrors
"What's wrong with him?" KV asked Surbhi. The two of them were left alone in the house while Professor Shaikh and KT had left to get KSG.
Surbhi was making chai for her and KV.
"KSG is like that. He doesn't like to talk to new people."
"Then why is he even here if he doesn't want to be."
"He has no where else to go. He was abandoned in his childhood. Professor Shaikh found him and took him in as his own. But at the same time, he's still that confused little boy that I saw in him when I first saw him."
"How long have you known him?"
"Since I started working here...about a year at least. His behavior is different...as if he feels alone and incomplete."
"I don't get it."
"Remember what KT said. You'll be here for a while."
"No one around here likes explaining things."
"Explaining is nothing. Learning comes from observation."
KV looked at Surbhi in silence for a moment. She speaks differently from other girls, he thought to himself. Surbhi poured the chai into two cups and handed one to KV.
On the other hand, Professor Shaikh and KT were walking in a distant valley. "Are you sure he's here?" KT asked. "I'm positive. My tracking device never fails." Professor Shaikh answered. Thats when KT pointed ahead.
KSG was found sitting in a corner near a tree, alone and in frustration pulling at his head. "Karan..."Professor Shaikh called. KSG sat there, silent. He looked into a small mirror that he held in his palm. "Whats wrong with you? You know you can't be trusted being alone all the time!" KT shouted.
"Thats exactly it!" KSG shouted as he stood up in rage. "I already tolerate you! Now I must tolerate another one of my name! Do I have no identity?!"
"Calm down." Professor Shaikh said.
"How can I?! Since I was left alone that rainy night as a child, all I feel is that loneliness is the answer! Though we have these abilities, were still not similar! Mine is nothing but a curse!" KSG yelled. "A curse which has rid me of peace! Because of which...whenever I look in the mirror...I see nothing but stains..."
KSG turned away from Professor Shaikh and KT, who were left speechless. Sweat came down KSG's face. As he looked at the mirror again, he smashed it against the tree, shattering it to pieces.
