Like Del said, its exaggeration to a point.
There are men in every city who think western clothes indicate lose morals. Girls from cosmpolitans wear what they like and most don't mind. Even if they do, the displeasure is not let out. They are more liberal, so to speak. They wear shorts, tank tops or whatever is comfortable.
Coming to the smaller cities and towns, there is more judgmental attitude. Here they generally stick to longer tops.Even t-shirts are frowned upon at times. We can't even wear jeans to college.

Bottom line is, they still have reservations and the attitude towards women is still medieval. Some are genuine but most are pretentious.

I'm not from India but I guess it's an exaggeration to an extent. What it looks like to me is that there are regions where western clothes are the norm and no one will blink an eye but there are still places where girls wearing jeans are considered to be loose with no morals or whatever.Of course it's still annoying to me that QH and probably every other Indian serial make such big deal out of it , it's like chill bro , it's just denim 😆

I honestly don't know. Where I have grown jeans skirts dresses are the norm and salwars sarees lehengas for weddings. But serials exaggerate salwars and all a lot 😕 .

I honestly don't know how jeans can be considered a sign of being modern 😕 . Hell, what does modern even mean?
