Genuine Question: Are jeans really that big of a deal?

When I first saw Zoya, I never really gave much attention to the fact that she wore jeans. But it was recently I realized that the jeans were added to her look consciously and were considered by the makers to be very important to her look, to show that she is "modern."

I mean I never really thought it was like a "bold move" for a girl to wear jeans.

But I do occasionally hear people telling me, "Oh Shweta you'll be shocked when you come to India now! India is so modern! Girls even wear jeans!"

They seem so excited and enthusiastic about the thought but that just made me think, are something as simple as jeans considered a sign of "development."

If so why?

And is it true that they are looked down upon by the orthodox?

Also, how a woman during GaZia wedding anniversary told Razia pointing @ Zoya dat she wore such a vahiyaat kapda. It lukd like as if she saw Zoya wearing a bikini or she never saw jeans in her life.

To be fair, I watched maybe like 20 full episodes of QH in the entire existence of the show. But wow, that's sad.

But that was that one lady, I refuse to believe she stands for all of India. I just wanted to know the general vibe on this topic.

I MEAN NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE.
But in India many places the muslim community dont allow girls to wear jeans. I have seen many of my muslim freinds wanting to wear it, but they cannot. Its like a taboo for them.
But most of the rest communities wear them. There is no issue about it.
Others also wear shorts, skirts, and other type of dresses. There is no restriction.

i dnt knw about muslims in other parts of india... bt here in kerala most muslim girls do wear jeans... even i am a muslim and i am mostly comfortable in jeans... bt only wid long tops or kurtis

Thankfully i haven't come across such people who feel wearing jeans is wrong.mini skirts or shorts do raise eyebrows but i have always been allowed to wear what i prefer.i don't know if its still a big thing in India or even in small towns but in television industries 'good-girls'are always shown in sarees or salwar suits.maybe jeans was as far as gul could go in portrayal of a modern girl.
i guess its televisions fault as well to show nice girls wearing suits and mean girls wearing western stuff becauase in real life thats not what exactly happens.even i have friends coming from conservative families but wearing jeans is never frowned upon in their case as well.maybe its just saas-bahu shows which has made this such a big deal.

It's an exaggeration in my opinion. Today people from all strata of society wear jeans and shirts or jeans and kurtis (whichever combination works). I suppose the section of society that does have an issue are the one who have a political agenda or the uber religious conservatives who more often than not use religion to fuel their patriarchal views.

I am sick of soaps showing dat western clothes wearing girls r bad n of loose character while traditional clothes wearing girls r good n sanskaari. Serial makers r tainting d mind of d people by showing like dis. In QH, SSLK n some other serials, it has shown vice versa where western clothes wearing girls r good while traditional clothes wearing girls r bad. Now, dis vice versa concept is shown in every 3-4 serials. I can't believe even educated n successful people like Asad was shown wid dis cheap mentality n he saw d consequences od his thinking in d form of Tanveer who made everyone believe dat they slept 2gthr.
