Well I am not surprised that something like this would happen. Taxi drivers here are the worst. Not only are they horrible drivers, they also do not follow traffic rules and more often than not are the causes of most accidents. India is blessed with potholed roads, uncouth and drivers with a don't care attitude and of course the sort who will probably hit you and won't even bother to stop and acknowledge their mistake. As someone who drives a lot - I know there has never been a day where I haven't wanted to yell at a dangerous driver. As for the traffic cops - do they know the rules themselves? :-/

I am glad Raqesh and surbhi are fine. Glad they had sense to take over from the driver.

It was an innocent comment and honestly I don't see a trip to India in my near future... in terms of business or pleasure. Granted I am 19, so I don't know much about business but in terms of pleasure my must-see destinations are England (& Europe in general), Disneyland (so Flordia I guess), and I want to go up north to see the northern lights, so either in Canada itself OR Greenland. Also, I want to explore my own country Canada... like I love Toronto, but I want to see the mountains, flatlands of the prairies and even the territories up north.

Edit: I just googled Toronto has 12000 car accidents per year (varying severity)! SO TRUST ME, I am not saying Toronto is a safe city to drive in!

Lol except they are unsafe.

Accidents happen everywhere but roads here are a brand on their own. Forget the roads the drivers are worse. Most people get their licenses by paying a bribe and not having to do the proper tests.

I love India but your description is exactly the reason I don't make frequent trips

Last time I went with my parents we travelled by train
Plane and even boats which in my opinion comparitively safer

I don't have the guts to drive there

Air travel here is fine. Would never get on a train. They are filthy. *shudder*

I know some countries have safer roads and better drivers BUT I can't make declarations like that without ever stepping a foot in India NOR is it fair for people miles away to make such statements. I am sure people there are accustomed to it and they are relatively safe.

I live in India and trust me it's a very fair statement to make. Health and safety don't rank very high here unfortunately. Life is expendable.

I concede! You are the local so you have greater knowledge. Usually I will show my acceptance or agreement with hitting the like button, but morally I can't like a comment that says life is expendable.

For someone who has been driving for the last 12+ years, I do not drive in India. I consider myself a safe driver and trust my skills, but I do not trust those around me. I agree with those who made comments about the driving sensibilities and conditions in India. They are not safe and the lack of rules is just nerve wrecking.
In general the Indian mentality with respect to human life is pretty shabby. Terrorists kill hundreds here and we only talk of taking action. Forget road kills and accidents. No matter what happens, life moves on here without a thought to how things can be changed for the better.

That's sadly the state of country that just doesn't care. Celebrities and cricket rank higher than a man in need.
