TWENTY FOUR
Zoya finally raised her hand and knocked on his door, not waiting for a response she walked inside to find him nowhere, as she walked further in she realised he was in the bathroom so decided to wait. After a few moments Asad came out surprised to find Zoya standing by the window 'Zoya...you ok?' he said as he walked up to her.
Zoya turned around and smiled 'you know something Mr Farooqui, not everything is as impossible as it seems' Asad looked at her confused 'how do you mean?' 'come, I'll show you' Zoya held out her hand asking Asad to come and stand with her, Asad place his hand in hers and walked closer to the window 'that star you said that was like me...so near yet so far...' 'Zoya...' Asad interrupted 'Mr Farooqui, let me finish...please I need to say this'.
Asad let out a sigh 'sure...' Zoya turned around to face him 'Asad...when was the last time you reached out for that star?' 'Reach...for...the star...?' was all Asad said as he didn't understand her line of questioning. Zoya tried to suppress her giggle seeing his face 'I guess I will have to go with simple words...a language that you understand...Asad if I said to you that you could reach for that star and actually succeed in holding it what would you say?' 'That you have not had enough food to eat and it's obviously getting to your head' Zoya rolled her eyes at him 'Ya Alla, what is wrong with you Asad?' 'Nothing...what is wrong with you?' he asked with the same expression.
'This was supposed to be easy?' she said huffing as she placed her hands on her hips 'what was?' 'Telling you that I love you...it was supposed to be as simple as saying Asad, I love you too...' Zoya looked at Asad smiling from ear to ear 'and what the hell are you smiling at now' she said irritated not realising that what she had said.
'Say it again...' Zoya looked at him huh...say what again?' Asad reached out for her hand and held it in his 'what you just said say it again Zoya' rolling her eyes at him in irritation Zoya repeated herself 'I said that telling you that I...Love...You...was supposed to be easy' Zoya covered her mouth with her free hand as he eyes popped out 'Ya Allah, I said it...I said it and didn't even realise'.
Asad pulled down her hand she had covered her mouth with and stepped closer to her 'say it again Zoya' Zoya felt her heart skip several beats together as she looked deeper into his eyes, her whole body started going from hot to ice cold as his face stood just inches away 'Zoya...say it again' he whispered. Being more than aware of what was going on Zoya looked away shyly and tried to step away from him only to be pulled back with so much force that she crashed into his chest. Asad wrapped his arms around her as she hid her face in his chest 'Zoya...look at me' trying to calm down her erratic breathing Zoya slowly raised her eyes to meet his 'I love you too' she said in a low whisper and then hid her face again.
There really was no way of describing what Asad felt, the happiness, the joy, the relief that washed over him was second to none. He pulled her back and cupped her face, both of them looked at one another with tears of happiness brimming in their eyes, Asad felt blessed, he finally had been gifted what he desired the most 'Mrs Zoya Asad Ahmed Khan...how long did you make me wait...do you know how many times I have stood here...this very spot and looked out that window and prayed that one day you will come in here and tell me that you love me too'. Zoya knew what Asad was really trying to say, it was the very same spot that she stood when she first walked into his room as his wife, the very same spot they agreed that they would have no relation between them.
Zoya held his hand in hers as she wiped away her tears 'Allah heard you...you prayed, you hoped and you believed...and here I am Asad. I am sorry for making you wait...I knew I always loved you but what I didn't know was how, I didn't want it to be a love compromised I wanted it to be real...and it is real. I love you'
Asad hugged her and let her shed her remaining tears as he did too. Asad led Zoya to the bed where they spent a long time talking about everything that had passed and that was going to come. 'This is one Eid that I will never forget...you have given me the best Eid present anyone could have ever asked for Zoya'
Zoya stood up 'I should get going, you try and get some rest, Ammi will be knocking to wake you up for Eid Prayers soon' Asad stood up and held her hand 'Zo...Zoya you can...' Asad started hesitating as he spoke but Zoya understood what he wanted to say 'I know...and I promise it won't be long before I come in and start causing chaos in here...I'll give you a few days to get over your OCD' she said winking at him. Asad smiled at her, he held the side of her face and leant down to place a soft kiss on her forehead 'as long as I have you, my wife, my best friend here with me you can cause all the chaos in the world...and just to clarify I do not have OCD'.
Zoya woke up to the sun's rays that filtered through her curtains playing hide and seek with her face. Feeling the warmth against her soft skin made her smile; she stretched her arms and let out a deep satisfying sigh. For her today could not be more perfect, it was Eid, it was a day she woke up truly believing that this was her house, her family, and just across the hall was her husband that she loved with all her heart. She looked up and raised her hands 'Ya Allah, it doesn't matter how many times I raise my hands or bow my head to thank you, it will never be enough. You have given me so much, blessed me with everything I could have ever wanted. You have always been there to support me, guide me and do what has always been right...Thank You'.
Zoya showered and got changed before she came out to meet everyone; the men of the house were still at the mosque. Najma, Ayra and Dilshad all hugged Zoya and wished her Eid Mubarak, as Dilshad met Zoya she whispered in her ear 'was it easy?' Zoya started to blush profusely giving her the answer she was looking for. Dilshad hugged Zoya again 'thank you Zoya, thank you so much'.
The girls had laid out the table when the doorbell rang, Najma opened the door and as soon as she did Zoya screeched in happiness as Zeenat came in with Anwar 'Apiii...Bhai, Eid Mubarak' she said as she hugged them. Zeenat and Anwar met the rest of them and sat down waiting for Ayaan, Asad and Rashid to come back. Zoya saw the lines of tension that her sister and brother in law wore on their faces, it's was the first time they were going to come face to face with Ayaan after what had happened, they were never happy with Zoya's decision to bring him and Ayra back home but they trusted her and let her do what she felt was right for her and her family. Zoya placed her hand over Zeenat's 'I know what you are thinking Api, but I am happy and I need you to believe me...I have everything that you prayed for and wished for right here...it's Eid, let bygones be bygones, please don't say anything' Zeenat smiled at her little sister 'my happiness lies with yours Zoya if you say everything is ok, then I believe you...and as for anyone else...well like you said we will just have to let go'.
