Chapter 11 (part a)
We knew eachother
Narrator's POV:
That was it for asad , he heard the beautiful voice. both of them stood there stunned, mesmerized and still swimming in eachothers eyes when some ruffling noise broke them apart. Zoya looked towards the noise and took a few steps to it.Asad watched her walk a few steps, she dint do a cat walk but the way she did it was very graceful. the way she held herself made asad feel proud for an unknown.
The noises got louder and now joined with a few giggles. it was coming from the last room of the hall's corridor.as it was still dark at those places, she couldnt see clearly.asad who very well knew about the plan stood there enjoying the series of expressions running on zoya's face. And then suddenly something clicked in his mind, he switched off all the lights which he had just switched on a moment before.seeing the lights suddenly go off, zoya panicked and gasped looking around for light and thats when she saw a faint glimmer of light coming from the corner of the corridor.then emerged a figure, a male one.and she could be sure that it could be ayaan. and then a lot of figures looking like humans emerged.zoya who was still recovering from the shock of seeing a vampire-man just now was relieved as the figures turned out to be humans...and it was none other than her crazy family.the faint glimmer from the candle light which each one of them had made some faces visible for her. she was happy to see them but was more confused. she then heard a soft song ...it was the 'happy birthday' song. the soft song sung by her family was made louder when ayaan joined in it.
"happy birthday to you"
"happy birthday to you"
"happy birthday to you dear zoya"
"happy birthday to you"
Ayaan joined in
"may god bless you dear"
"may god bless you dear"
"may god bless you dear,zoya/mona"
There was a pause of singing instead all of them giggled when ayaan said mona, while asad gave an unnoticed glare to ayaan.then they continued, and asad felt left out so he thought of joining in the next paragraph.
"happy birthday to you"
Asad swiftly switched on all the lights and zoya looked around but then again focused on the song when she heard the next lined sung by ayaan with a beautiful,mellowing,deep voice...
"make goo.../ you were born in the zoo with monkeys and elephants like you!" all of them stopped and looked at ayaan and asad when both of them sang these lines other than the original song.
"so, happy birthday to you"
Zoya's eyes widened when they both compared her to monkeys and elephants. she glared at both of them and then suddenly turned towards her family when she heard a few sniffles.She saw that all of the khan siblings where crying silently, she was hell worried about their sudden out burst of tears. she took a few steps towards them,but before she could reach them, they rushed pass her and went and hugged their bhaijaan.she turned and saw them hugging and kissing their bhaijaan.then only realisation dawned upon her and she herself smiled with a few tears running down her cheeks.
She was suddenly pulled into a hug of three which made twirl around that she was facing the big hug of the khans. she was brought down to the earth by her miey and pops who wished her a big happy birthday in that hug.
M&P: happy birthday my baby...
H: happy birthday my baaji...
Zoya pulled away from the hug and said
Z:miey!?!pops!?! how are you people here? i mean...
Zee: shhh!!! zoe dear...lets talk about that later
And again she was pulled into a crushing hug.zoya looked at the khans when she was caught red handed by asad who was looking at her side. her eyes widened and she tried to divert her gaze but couldnt as asad's gaze held her locked in it.they both looked at eachother while still in that hug.
They both realised the intensity of the hug was getting more and more and they felt crushed tightly so both of them thought of cracking a joke with their respective hugging members. they got out of the hug with a sudden jerk and said at the same time
"oye!oye! are you planning to crush me to death?!?!"
Instead of laughing they all looked at one another in shock. and thats when asad and zoya realised but dint dare to look at eachother.
"hmrhm...! ladies and gentlemen, would you all mind to recognise this old man?" came an elderly voice.
Asad and zoya's faces lit up hearing it.they both rushed at the same time saying
"kakaa..."
They went and kneeled down before him while dashing their heads together which made then again to look at eachother and drown in their eyes. but soon zoya got hold of herself and diverted her attention to kaka.
k: happy birthday beti
Zoya beamed at him and thats when asad noticed her dimples which were ready to bury him alive. 'iam jealous of her dimples, i accept' he thought.he was so mesmerized by her that he was brought back into the world by kaka.
K: iam so happy that i got to meet you my beta
He at first smiled slightly at kaka but when he noticed zoya looking at his side, he beamed very brightly to show her that he too had dimples.Zoya too felt that she was being eaten up by his dimpled cheeks. she had the uncontrollable urge to pull his cheeks but still she kept it in somehow.
They both dint dare to move away even though they needed to do so badly.
Kaka kissed both of their foreheads and blessed them and they slowly withdrawing back from him.
Something clicked in zoya's mind and she asked
Z: hey! where's tannu?
Ay: oh! tanny!!! you know na...
N2: ..that she would take up an whole day to get ready even if its a small party...
N1:and today is her bestie's birthday...so do you even think that she would be here without...
N3: looking like supermodel herself!!!!????
Z: huh!
zoya rolled her eyes. Just then everyone heard the front door barge open and there stood a heavily breathing tanveer calling out
" zoe babes!!!!zo..." she stopped being breathless.
She looked up and said.
" the cake cutting isnt over right??"
