Driven by business realities, QH PH has taken a different view on the kind of audience they want - in Gul's own words mass audience as against high class realism (i am assuming later is urban / internet audience). In the process, loyal earlier audience seemed to have felt alienated. Reaction on the IF is a result. Over time, IF audience will certainly go away or adjust their expectations. Going forward, story is unlikely to suit majority of internet audience's taste.
What happens with mass audience will determine fate of the serial. I think as far as PH is concerned, they are not going to bring back high class realism . The same has given them low to medium range TRP , approx. 2-2.5 . It is not sustainable business-wise. This is the exact reason why GUL is not responding to internet audience's demands / rants and will not going forward. It is not that she do not understand them. If things clicks the way it is moving forward, good and well. If not, the show will be wrapped up.
This is my point of view, it may or may not be correct.
