Part 2
"Sorry Mr khan I can't sleep with you." Zoya said pointing to the bed.
"Excuse-me!" Asad all but screeched. Zoya's eyes widened as she registered the innuendo and stuttered,
"I mean, what I meant was, I didn't, it's not what you-" Asad stopped her midway.
"Save it. Even I'm not dying to spend the night in the same room with you but you left us no choice." He signaled towards their handcuffed hands indirectly indicating that they were in this situation because of her.
"I left us no choice? Mr khan if you are not aware of the situation then it's best if you remain silent about it ok. You don't let me explain myself so even I'm not going to stand here listening to you berate me." She held her head high and crossed her arms across her chest to make herself firm and clear. Asad was also losing his temper with every passing minute, his earlier resolve of behaving calmly with her was thinning away especially when she stood there challenging him like she always did. Before she entered his life, no one had the nerve to talk to him like that and her tone exasperated him. He needed control and around her that control just vanished. He grasped her arms and pulled her to him. They were fact-to-face, their bodies touching and Asad tightened his grip on her which made her flinch a little but Asad ignored it.
"Do you have any idea about the gravity of the situation we are in? An inkling maybe?" he said with gritted teeth. He had tried to keep his anger in check but her words were his undoing. Zoya tried to wriggle out of his grasp but boy, was he strong? She couldn't even manage to move his finger off her. She glared at him and spat back at him,
"Yes I do understand the gravity of the situation just because I don't panic unnecessarily like you doesn't mean I don't understand."
Asad was momentarily taken aback by her outburst. He had never seen her get so angry, yes she defied him and stood up against him at every turn but he never had to see her angry side and he began to think whether he had pulled a wrong string.
"Unnecessarily? Oh forgive me for worrying about your safety at such a time. You have absolutely no regards for your safety so obviously someone else has to do the job for you."
"And somehow you feel the job lands on your shoulders, eh?"
"Yes." He answered without thinking and bit his tongue as soon as he said it. He tried to loosen his grip on her but she only stepped closer, her eyes demanding answers.
"Why?"
"Huh?" he asked.
"Why do you feel like you have to save me every damn time?" she clutched the stroll of his kurta.
Now what would he answer for that when he himself didn't know the answer, when he himself didn't know why he felt the need to protect her? Earlier he used to tell himself it was only because she was a guest at his house and apparently ammi's favorite hence he had to protect her or else her family would blame them for not taking care of their girl, but he knew it was just an excuse to mask his true feelings. He blamed Zoya, she evoked various feelings in him that he had never felt before. But he couldn't tell her that, could he? He couldn't risk telling her that. He felt Zoya shake him again, taking him out of his reverie and demanding an answer to her question. He looked into her big curious eyes.
"Are you going to answer me?" she raised her eyebrow. He removed her hands from his kurta and pushed her away and replied in a cold indifferent voice,
"Yes. If anything happens to you then Ammi would put all the blame on me and would get upset with me for not protecting you. She has given your responsibility to me and I take it as an obligation."
Zoya stared at him in disbelief, she hated to admit it but she was hurt with his uncaring attitude. Did he absolutely felt nothing else towards her? Was he really there with her because he felt he was 'obligated' to do so and not because he wanted to be with her? She mentally chided herself for even thinking that for a fleeting minute that he might care about her. Who was she after all? Nothing but an annoying unwanted guest that he had to endure for the sake of his ammi's promise. Why would he 'want' to be with her when in reality all he would want was for her to leave his home and his life as soon as possible!
"So that's it? There's nothing else? Is that really what you feel?" she asked in a low voice.
Asad didn't think he could lie anymore without hurting her so he simply turned his head away, he looked everywhere but at him hoping she would just drop the topic. He already had a lot on his plate, he didn't need any more emotional turmoil. He needed an empty mind if he had to think straight and try to find out ways to get out of all this alive. Once in Bhopal she can play 21 questions if she wanted but first he needed to ensure they were safe, she was safe, that there was no one waiting to kill them or do whatever they had in mind.
When Asad had turned his head away she knew she wasn't going to get anymore answers tonight. Why was he so stubborn? Why did he prefer living in a shell? Why can't he be more open? Instead of having a quiet peaceful conversation he always preferred to fight or dictate. Asad knew Zoya was not going to let it go so easily so he immediately said more like ordered,
"It's very late, I think we should go to sleep."
"Yeah I think so too." All the running and quarreling had exhausted her physically, emotionally and mentally. She needed rest, their conversation could wait. They walked towards the bed but stood still near the edge of the bed. One thing they had failed to think about was, how will they sleep while being handcuffed?

Ahaa this is by far my most speedy update so don't frown if the update was small. I need to finish this off soon so I'm gonna post whenever something comes to my mind.
I know Asad can be a dick head at times but I promise a romantic asyalicious update! I'll try to update tomorrow or day after. Feedbacks please! (:
